Bush Telegraph Bush Telegraph 16 November 2012 Issue No. 34 Principal’s Report: Manly Vale Public School 77 Sunshine Street Manly Vale 2093 PHONE: 9907 9672 FAX: 9907 0890 EMAIL: [email protected]Website: www.manlyvale-p.schools.nsw.edu.au Another busy week has flown by! We have managed to fit in one emergency evacuation practice. Another one will be held within the next fortnight to ensure that our Thursday and Friday staff members are given an opportunity to par- ticipate, and the few glitches noted last time can be im- proved. Congratulations to Finlay Dennison for the outstanding speech he pre- sented at the Remembrance Day service last Friday. Finlay is also to be commended for his leadership and good sportsmanship at the PSSA beach volleyball final. Alt- hough the team did not win, Finlay with no prompting thanked his team for their effort and congratulated them all for trying their best. Good sportsmanship has always been a quality that the school community values and it was excel- lent to see this team display it! Last Saturday 20 of our students were involved in a com- mercial shoot. The producer of the film company took the time to write an email to the Principal which said, “Over the years I have done many shoots with groups of children …..I’m always slightly nervous as you never know how the kids are going to behave……I wanted to write to tell you what a wonderful group of kids you had from Manly Va- le……they were all so well behaved ……they listened and took direction…….” Well done to those students. It made me very proud to read this. As many of you will have noticed our two additional de- mountable classrooms have arrived. We are all really hap- py to know that they are here ready to accommodate our two additional classes in 2013. It has been a bit disruptive and I thank the teachers and students for dealing calmly with any in- convenience. Hooray, hooray! On Tuesday 13 November we were finally able to let the students play on our brand new, luxurious turf on the back oval. Everyone is thrilled as you can see in the photo. Thank you so much to the P&C, Ian Hills and his helpers, Ken Dewell and Mr Dylan for your additional time ensuring that the turf stayed healthy and grew quickly. Students can now use the oval at recess and lunch time. From tomorrow games like soc- cer and touch footy will be able to be played. Thank you to the school council members who met with me last Friday to discuss issues around creating a safer entry/exit to the school. We have some great proposals and these will be put forward at the next School Council meeting Monday 26 November and P&C meeting Tues- day 27 November. The issues surrounding preparing our school grounds for the summer bushfire season are a work in progress! A second meeting will be held tomorrow 16 November with Warringah Council personnel and relevant parties to find solutions which will be satisfactory and meet the various requirements. John Sullivan has kindly offered together with bush fire volunteers, to clear again the vegetation which has become overgrown since it was last cleared when the new administration block was built. A possible working bee will be discussed at the P&C meeting. The merit selection panel will be interviewing candidates for our new Principal next Tuesday 20 November. We should be informed of the successful candidate approxi- mately 10 days following the interview date. Thank you to the wonderful parents and teaching and office staff who are continuing to be very supportive as we keep business going as usual! A huge thank you to the parents who have already re- turned the survey sent out last week on student learning. We still need more to be returned to ensure the findings are representative of more than a minority of the school community! I know it is hard to find the time in this busy life, but this is an opportunity for you to let us know your views and make a difference to learning programs in the school. Survey results will be used to support the targets we set for 2013. The survey is on the school website or it can be collected from the office if you require another copy. REMEMBRANCE DAY
Students in K-2 came together and held a Remem-
brance Day assembly at school. The occasion was
thoughtful with beautiful speeches from Annabelle
Bowden and Samuel Collins (2S). Students in Stage 1
made beautiful ‘Lest We Forget’ wreaths and layed
them under the Australian flag, which was flying at half
mast. Kindergarten students made poppies on paddle
pop sticks which they put into the ground to remember
the fallen soldiers. Thank you to all the students for
their respect and thoughtfulness during the assembly.

P&C Meeting on 27 November 2012
The next P&C meeting will be held on Tuesday 27 November 2012 starting at 7:30pm. Meetings are generally held on the third Tuesday of each month however the next meeting has been changed as this will be the last meeting for 2012. So please note, there will not be a P&C meeting next week; it will now be held on 27 November.

A Big Thanks From the SRC
The SRC would like to thank all the students
and community for their support of Tuesday’s
mufti day. We raised over $400 which will go
towards Rasmata’s sponsorship for the next 12
months. Manly Vale students understand how
lucky they are in regards to other less advan-
taged children around the world and are proud
to donate to improve the lives of others.
Thanks - SRC

Thanks so much to everyone who supported our MND fundraiser and took home a cute puppy. We were overwhelmed by the demand and sold out both days - selling 90 pup-pies in total! We were sorry to disap-point some children so will be getting
more puppies to sell next week - hopefully by Mon-day but definitely by Wednesday, $5 each. Many thanks, Georgia Wyatt and family.
Next week (7) will be the last week for bor-rowing this term. Please help your child to return all library books by Week 8. Thank you for your support. Glynis Poole Teacher Librarian
