Habitat : commom on dry placess in srilanka.

dry hills throughout the greater part of india.

Identifying character : A deiciduous middle sized tree.

Habitat : Dry and hot placess in srilanka.

India where it is found Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Identifying character : shrubby 1.2-1.8 m high.

Usually ending in a sharp spine.

Leaves 1-3 foliolate up to 8mm.

Leaflets susbsessile , rhomboid ovate.

Flowers in fascicles of 2-3.

The individual flowers are red to pink, with four small petals

Guggul produces a resinous sap known as gum guggul.

The extract of this gum, called gugulipid, guggulipid or guglipid.

Guggul can be purchased in a loosely packed form called dhoop.

which is burned over hot coals.

This produces a fragrant, smoke.

The burning coals which let out the smoke are then carried around to different rooms and held in all corners for a few seconds.

This is said to drive away evil spirits as well as remove the evil eye from the home and its family members.
