ONE YEAR IN JAPANAudrey and I have greatly enjoyed
the year we have lived in the Land ofthe Rising Sun even though
manythings seem strange and unusual to usforeigners. The isles of
Japan are incredibly beautiful from the mightywaters of blue to the
majestic mountains. The mountains give the Japanese landscape
grandeur and mystery. We have seen Fuji-yama many times;it does not
seem to be solidly therebut drawn against the sky by a
masterartist. We like the natural beauty ofthis land.
The picture shows the living roomof Miss Farnham's home where
Audreyand I have delighted in a variety ofdelicious Japanese
dishes. We likeJapanese food.
Most of all we like the Japanesepeople. May we Introduce to you
someof our Japanese friends at the MabashiChurch. The little lady

women's work. She alsodoes a fine work among the suffering
and needy of Japan by hospital andhome visitation. To the right

Then Mary and John Muloare the leaders of the Mabashi
Church.Because of their devoted and consecrated lives they have
lead the churchinto a close walk with the living Christ.Peter
Itagaki is the young man on theright of the front row. He gave up
apromising career in business to attendthe Seminary in order that
he mighttake the message of Jesus Christ tmtothe lost. Mr. Koji

workers andstudents of the Mabashi Church. Theyare truly wonderful
Christians!

NEW SEMINARY STUDENTFROM MABASHI CHURCH
We are happy that the MabashiChurch is sending a new student to
theTokyo Bible Seminary. I believe thata greater evangelistic work
can bedone by training young men for the
ministry than in any other way. Mr.Sugiura is highly recommended
by theMabashi pastor, Mr. John Muto. Oneof the teachers of the
Seminary madethe remark last year. "We are glad tohave young people
come from Mabashi. They are always excellent students."We feel sure
that Mr. Sugiura will uphold the reputation made by the
otherstudents.

thus we as foreigners may criticize butwe enjoy the people. The
children, who are plump, gay. and smiling, arethe first to gain
one's attention. Howfriendly they are as one meets them onthe
street. The adults are pleasant, hard working, and kind. In many

kindness andgentleness of the Japanese.

BACKGROUND
AAA Donald G. Bumey was bom in Dallas, Texas onMay 29, 1928. He

AAA Notma Wilson was bora at Marion, Indiana December 29, 1928
and became a Christian when almost10 years old at Macy, Indiana.
She entered LincolnBible Institute in 1946.

gone to work during thesummer months. Don worked there during the
summersof 1949 and 1950, and Norma the summers of 1948,1949, 1950,

OUR GOALThe Japanese island of Shikoku is, to
the best of our knowledge, without the Gospel in its fulness. We
know of no evangelistic work being done by Christian churchesor
churches of Christ. It is our hope to takethe Gospel to this area
as a part of our servicein Christ's Kingdom.
Entry into this field, we feel, must bepreceded by a period of
intensive languagestudy (veteran missionaries have cautionedus to
get the language during the first twoyears). The Julius Fleenor
family, MabashiMission, Tof^o, are returning to the UnitedStates
for furlough in July or August of 1955.They have offered us tihe
use of (heirhome inTokyo during the time they are gone. We planto
spend some 12 to 18 months in Tokyo inlanguage study and then go to
Shikoku (to a ^location to be chosen after investigation)when the
Pleenors return. In the time leftover from language study we will
be engagedin evangelistic work in Tokyo. We sincerelyappreciate
this offer by the Pleenors. Theopportunity to go to a furnished,
American-style house in Japan will greatly simplifyouradjustment to
different conditions and willincrease our immediate usefulness to
theKingdom of God.
OUR NEEDSOur present needs are:
k Your prayers in our behalf I
k LIVINGLINK. $3,420, or $125 a montheach for Don and Notma, and
$35 a month forPaul in tegular pledged support to meet ourliving
expenses, ^ese are the amountssuggested by those on the field as
necessaryto maintain health, and working efficiency.
k SERVICE LINK. Regular pledged supportto enable rent or
building, andprovide Bibles, tracts and literature, language school
tuition.
TRAVEL AND EQUIPMENT PUND. Weplan to take a car with us, funds
permitting, and to arrange major household furnishingsafter we get
to Japan. The Pleenors canbring any that must be purchased in die
United States when they retum.
Please continue to pray for us that God'swill may be done as we
prepare to go to Japan.

WE ARE GLAD to recommend Mr. and Mrs. DonaldBumey to the work of
the Kingdom in Japan. Don oftenvisited us in Tokyo while he was in
the Navy. He isone of the many Christian young men who have
decidedto be missionaries in Japan, because, while they werethere
in the service, they saw the needs of this field,\diere so many
millions are without Christ. TheBumeyshave wisely chosen as their
field of labor the island ofSiikoku, vhere dieie are no church of
Christ missionaries working. Since this is about 400miles from
Tokyothey will not be working in the Mabashi Mission, butwill live
in the Pleenor home and studyJapanese, ^^ilethe Pleenors are home
on furlou^.

Greetings in Christ's Name:

Lincoln Bible Institute. They are loyal, faidiful, consecrated
youngpeople wi&a passion for lost souls. The Lincoln school is
hai^to commend them to all Christians asworthyof support.

To Whom It May Concenu
Mr. and Mrs. Donald G. Bumey have served aspastors of the Ramsey
Christian Church for the pasttwo years, during which time several
new membershave teen added to the church.
They have taken a special interest in the work ofthe young
people in our churdi and in the Payette County Christian Youth
organization. They have also beentireless workers in our Vacation
Bible School each yearduring their pastorate here, serving not only
as supervisors and teachers, but also driving many miles intothe
country to bring children into the school that wouldnot have been
present otherwise. They have also givenspecial attention to the old
folks in our Nursing homehere, holding services regularly the first
Sunday ofeach month.
We have found Brother Bumey and his wife to bedevout Christians,
sincere in their work, and devotedly
interested in spreading the Gospel message to the uttermost
parts of the world.

To Christians of like precious faith everywhere:
It gives me genuine joy to introduce and recommendMr. and Mrs.
Donald Bumey to all who are prayerfullyand actively interested in
the cause of world wideevangelism.
In Mr. and Mrs. Bumey you have a coiqile, who, even in dieir
early days of formal preparation, haveproved themselves in the
field of missions. Kto. Bur-ney was widi McKinley Indian Mission
during the summers of 1948, 1949, 1950 and part of 1951. Mr.
Bur-ney was with us during the summers of 1949 and 1950.
Their concem for the Japanese field comes fromfirst hand
knowledge of the field, its needs and theirown desire to work in
the Kingdom. Ihey are well-prepared, experienced and have teen
tried and foundfaithful.
We all, here at McKinley hidianMission, haveknown them to be
cooperative with those of like faith, industrious, doing the work of
evangelism, active inseason and out of season. They are willing at
anytime(this has teen proved many times) to go beyond the callof
duty in the preaching and teaching of the Gospel.
I think that one of the test things that can be saidof any
Christian worker is fiiat they are agreeable andcan get along with
others and this is most certainlytme ^ die Bumeys.
It is our fervent prayer that rhrisrinna will take advantage of
this great opportunity and as they have said"Here am I," that we
will send them. I say "we" because we will also actively support
them.
In His Service,(Signed) John D. Runyan
