PENETROX™
HOW TO INSTALL CONNECTORS:
1. Select the right connector.Always use an aluminum connector for aluminum or copper conductor. And choosea connector that's marked for the wire sizeyou're using. Never use a copper connectoron aluminum conductor.
2. Strip carefully.Remove the insulation without nicking the wire.
installation and long life, reflecting over 65years of experience and resulting contribu-tions to all aspects of the electrical industry.
3. Brush thoroughly.Always wire-brush the stripped portion of thewire. An unplated terminal pad, and thesurface to which the terminal will be attachedshould also be wire-brushed.
4. Apply PENETROX™
For mechanical connectors, apply PENE-TROX™ joint compound liberally to theconductor to prevent the formation of sur-face oxides once the connection is made. Also apply PENETROX™ to any terminalpad.
5. Tighten completely. For mechanical connectors, use wrench orscrewdriver to securely tighten the aluminumconnectors, as recommended by BURNDY®.
6. Crimp. For compression connectors, choose theright die and the right tool. Insert the wirecompletely and make the recommendednumber of crimps. BURNDY® takes theguesswork out of aluminum connectionsbecause the connectors and crimp dies arecolor coded. Crimps can be easily locatedbetween marks.

TYPES PENETROX™A, A-13 AND E
OXIDE-INHIBITING JOINT COMPOUNDS
PENETROX™ oxide-inhibiting compoundsproduce low initial contact resistance, sealout air and moisture, prevent oxidation orcorrosion, exhibit superior weathering char-acteristics, are usable over wide temperatureranges, and provide a high conductivity"gas-tight" joint. All PENETROX™ com-pounds contain homogeneously suspendedmetal particles. The suspended metal parti-cles assist in penetrating thin oxide films, actas electrical "bridges" between conductorstrands, aid in gripping the conductor, improve electrical conductivity and enhancethe integrity of the connection.
The specially formulated PENETROX™compounds are for use with compressionand bolted connectors providing animproved service life for both copper andaluminum connections. Additionally, the non-toxic compounds are an excellent lubricantfor threaded applications reducing gallingand seizing.
PENACARTRIDGE
PENACARTRIDGE is a 1 lb. cartridge filledwith PENETROX-A. It's designed to fit stan-dard caulking guns for easy insertion intotransmission and distribution connectors.Additionally, this packaging design providesa convenient method for applying PENE-TROX™ to many different applications.
PENETROX A
PENETROX A is a natural (petroleum) basecompound with evenly suspended zinc parti-cles. It is recommended for aluminum to alu-minum, aluminum to copper connectionsand aluminum conduit threads. It is not rec-ommended for use with rubber or polyethyl-ene insulated conductors. UL listed to 600V.
PENETROX A-13
PENETROX A-13 is a synthetic base com-pound with evenly suspended zinc particles. It is recommended for aluminum to alu-minum, aluminum to copper connection plusaluminum conduit threads. It is compatiblewith rubber, polyethylene and other insulat-ing materials. UL listed for all voltages.
PENETROX E
PENETROX E is a synthetic base compoundwith evenly suspended copper particles. It isrecommended for copper to copper, copperthreads and all grounding applications. ULlisted.
PENETROX EPENETROX E consists of a non-petroleumbase vehicle in which copper granules aresuspended. Recommended for copper tocopper applications, grounding and for useon copper conduit threads. UL listed.
Easy to apply:1. Scratch brush the conductor surfaces until
bright and clean.2. Immediately apply PENETROX™ to the
conductive surfaces.3. For EHV applications, remove all excess
PENETROX™ after installation is com-plete.
SHELF LIFEWhen stored in its original container in cool(under 100° F) dry environment, PENE-TROX™ oxide inhibiting compound willremain workable and functional for (5) yearsfrom the date marked on the container pro-vided it is mixed per instructions prior to use.
