OBJECTIVE To determine whether an individual
would enjoy working in a bureaucracy.
INTRODUCTION The Bureaucratic Form of Organization
A bureaucracy is a rational, systematic, and precise form of organization in which rules, regulations, and techniques of control are precisely defined.
Bureau is a French word for office. Max Weber conceived it to be the ideal
organization with the following characteristics: Rules and regulations properly defined High degree of job specialization Emphasis on rules to control behavior All administrative actions recorded in writing Hierarchy given importance
Machine BureaucracyAn ideal organization that standardizes
work processes and is efficient.Best suited to large organizations.
Professional BureaucracyComposed of highly skilled professionals It decentralizes decision making and is less
formal.Best suited for accounting firms,
universities etc.
STRUCTURE OF QUESTIONNAIRE The questionnaire consists of 20
questions followed by two options- “Mostly Agree” and “Mostly Disagree”
Based on the key given a score is calculated and the interpretation is done based on the key.
KEY Score of 15-20: You would enjoy working
in a bureaucracy Score of 8-14: You would experience a
mixture of satisfaction and dissatisfaction if working in a bureaucracy
Score of 0-7: You would most likely be frustrated if working in a bureaucracy, especially a large one.

hence we accept Ho There is no significant difference in the

There is no significant difference in the preference for bureaucracy between public sector and private sector employees.
Ha: ALTERNATE HYPOTHESIS
There is a significant difference in the preference for bureaucracy between public sector and private sector employees.
χ2 Observed: 0.4076 Χ2 Critical: 5.99 Level of significance: 5% Degree of freedom=2 Conclusion: Since χ2 Observed<Χ2 Critical,
hence we accept Ho There is no significant difference in the
preference for bureaucracy between public sector and private sector employees.
CONCLUSION Thus we see that the questionnaire helps in
measuring the Bureaucratic Orientation Scale for an individual

LIMITATIONS Small sample size may not be able to
