As I indicated in that letter the short timeline is absolutely my fault. I hope you will accept my sincere apologies and I know you will help your child/ren so they are ready for the ‘Speak Off’ at school tomorrow. The ‘Speak Off’ will be held in the school hall between 12 – 2pm with Mrs Dabusti coordinating this event. The Section winners will then represent our school on Tuesday 20th March at Palerang Council Chambers. Mrs Dabusti will contact the families of the section winners about attendance on Tuesday 20th March. Thank you for your support in this matter. Today all Yr3 & Yr5 students will bring home a note explaining NAPLAN assessments and the timeline for the tests. The note also explains special provisions for students with specific needs and also exemption or withdrawal. You are always welcome to discuss, with me, any issues or enquiries you have by contacting the office. Today or tomorrow Kindergarten parents will also receive their child’s Best Start Student Report with a letter offering the opportunity to have an interview if you would like to discuss any aspect of the report. On Tuesday evening the P&C held their AGM and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new executive being: President: Mel Swan Vice Presidents: Hugh Meggitt and Lorraine Oliver Treasurer: Juliet Dowling Secretary: Lucy Kealey Committee members: Mel Carne, Malcolm Campbell and Trudy Wynne I look forward to working with the new team and having a productive year that supports our students. Many, many thanks to the outgoing committee for their hard work and dedication. We are lucky to have such a proactive P&C and I hope that all parents will find some little way to help as that certainly lightens the load of the committee. You can all help on March 31st by attending the ‘Back to the Future’ fundraiser. Buy a ticket and come along for lots of fun and you’ll be supporting the P&C initiative to provide more IWB’s for classrooms. Last week our School Captains proudly welcomed our Regional Director and 10 School Education Directors to our school. They commenced the meeting with Acknowledgment of Country and also conducted school tours into various classrooms. Apart form Mrs Dabusti and I explaining what was required they carried out these leadership duties by themselves. We are proud of the way in which they conducted themselves and interacted with this team of adult executives. Congratulations to our students that represented the Queanbeyan District at the Regional Swimming Carnival in Dapto yesterday and to our students that played AFL at the Regional AFL trials at Dairy Farmers Stadium on Monday. Uniform Shop News Just a reminder that during Term 1 the uniform shop is open every Friday afternoon from 2.45 to 3.45pm. Our winter polar fleece jumpers are now in stock, so make sure you grab a jumper for your child before it gets too cold!!! We also have a large range of second hand uniforms for sale. These uniforms are in fairly good condition and are at very good prices. We have recently reorganised the second hand section, so it is much easier to rummage through sizes to grab a bargain. We accept cash, cheque or direct debit transfer.

Year 7, 2013—Expressions of Interest Expressions of Interest for Year 7, 2013 are due by Friday 16th March 2012 to Mrs Dabusti.

Head Lice Recently we have had several cases of head lice in our classrooms. As this is an ongoing problem, we ask that you please check and if necessary, treat your child’s head tonight so your child can return to class tomorrow free of any head lice. There are a variety of treatment options for head lice. It is only when everybody makes an effort at home to check their child’s hair regularly that we’ll be able to remove head lice in our school. Please help us by being vigilant in the monitoring of your child’s hair.

Sport Swimming Yesterday I had the good luck to take 9 fabulous children to Dapto to participate in the Regional Primary Swimming Carnival. Many swam personal bests, and all were "good sports". Thank you to Gus Y, Charlotte T, Danielle H, Alex R, Layla L, Stacey D, Hannah T, Grace S and Gabrielle S for representing Queanbeyan District so well. AFL On Tuesday I took 6 boys to regional AFL trials in Bateman's Bay. Due to the recent bad weather, they'd skipped the District trial step, so this was an opportunity they probably wouldn't normally get. Although they all tried their best, none are through to the next level. Jack N, Nathan C, Hugh C, Jack H, Jay S and David B all did Bungendore Public School proud. Tracey Leggett

K-2 Easter Hat Parade It’s Easter bonnet making time and we are looking forward to seeing the fabulous and funky hats that families will be putting together at home for the annual K-2 Easter Hat Parade.

The Easter Hat parade will start at 9:40am and finish about 11am in the Bungendore Public School hall on Tuesday, April 3. The K-2 students this week started learning a few cute and clever Easter songs for the parade.

Parents are welcome to come along to join in the excitement on April 3 and to admire the many beautiful designs that will be on show!

BPS Library News The school library operates on the basis of trying to develop in the children the habit of using the library when they need to rather than at a set time. Children have the opportunity to change their library books EVERY DAY! It is best to encourage the children to put their library books in their school bags as soon as they have finished with them so that they can exchange them the next day.

I award certificates for excellent borrowing in order to encourage children to use the library regularly.

Mrs Franklin

Wanted—Plastic Bags If anyone has any spare plastic shopping bags for library books could you please drop them off to the library or front office.

Back to School Adjustments The transition back to school can involve lots of adjustments and challenges for children and parents. Whilst change is a constant, we are all creatures of habit and adjusting to change can be quite stressful and also result in concerning behaviours, which if unaddressed, can become more problematic. Some of the adjustment related behaviours and concerns that the Parent Line can provide information, advice and support with, include:

• Distress about and/or refusal to attend school

• Sleep issues and concerns

• Increased anger and irritability

• Temper tantrums

• Homework and study issues

• Friendship and playground issues and concerns

• Behavioural concerns at school

Seek support and assistance with challenges. Stress can isolate us and cause us to withdraw when what we really need is to reach out. Parent Line counsellors are on call 24/7 to discuss any issues that relate to your family, there is also information on our website www.parentline.org.au or phone 1300 1300 52.
