Big Idea: Exploration Taking a look at

authors

Enduring Understandings Essential Questions Authors use end punctuation to show the type of sentence written. Authors gather information from their surroundings. Authors use adjectives to help readers visualize what they are reading.

What does end punctuation tell a reader and writer? How do authors get their ideas? How do authors use their senses when they write?

Bundle Performance Task(s) In a small group, with partners, or individually students will choose two stories to compare and contrast. Students may use a double bubble map or a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the adventures and experiences of characters in the story. Students will compare and contrast using adjectives to describe the similarities and differences between characters. When comparing the stories students should use correct inflectional endings on words. Students will share their comparisons with a peer, the class, or with an adult. As an extension, in a small group, with partners, or individually students will choose three stories to compare and contrast.
