Expressions of Interest Bundaberg In Voice Singers and Musicians Emerging Musical Directors, Directors and Producers As part of this year’s Crush Festival, The Bundaberg Players, in partnership with Creative Regions and WIV Presents will present ‘Bundaberg in Voice'. 'Bundaberg in Voice' will be a unique cabaretstyle production featuring local singers singing the music they love, delivered with their own theatrical interpretation. It will be an opportunity for the singers and musicians of Bundaberg to work with an awardwinning producing and creative team to develop a short cabaret idea or concept one that speaks with their own voice – for inclusion in a unique musical and theatrical celebration. The creative lead team is: • Creative Producer Annie Peterson, founder of Brisbane’s iconic 'Women in Voice' series • Director Lewis Jones, director with over fifty productions to his credit, and • Musical Director – Emma Dean, renowned singer, performer, songwriter and recording artist. In addition, 'Bundaberg in Voice' will be an opportunity for three locals to be mentored in the key roles of Creative Producer, Director and Musical Director during the development, rehearsal and presentation of the production. 'Bundaberg in Voice' is based on the successful 'Women in Voice' model that has been part of the Brisbane music and theatre landscape for nearly twentyfive years, however, this production is open to both women and men. While the production will feature each artist individually, the show is developed as a collective collaboration. Key features will be: • singers provide backing vocals for other artists where appropriate • one singer acting as an MC but also presenting their own songs, and • up to three ensemble numbers, including a finale and an encore. Each segment of the production will last between 15 and 20 minutes. There is no set ‘recipe’ for making the show. It will be created out of the ‘ingredients’ we find and developed to present the audience with a ‘menu’ that offers a variety of experiences, some familiar and some new. What are we looking for? 'Bundaberg in Voice' is about creating something that is uniquely yours. So unlike auditions where you are asking the creative team what they want you to do, we will be asking you to tell us what you want to do, what ideas you want to explore and develop! We want to hear about ideas where you perform with ‘your own voice’ and, in doing so, make a unique connection with an audience. There might be a standalone set of songs by a particular artist or composer you have always wanted to present. There may be original songs – think Kate MillerHeidke and Tim Minchin! There may be quirky covers – think ‘The Kransky Sisters’. There might be any number of theatrical ideas which bring a new dimension to terrific songs. But whatever it is, it is definitely a whole lot more than just another cabaret show. To participate as a Singer, here is what you need to do.
