King of the Universe

From the Desk of The PastorDear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy:

Another Liturgical Year is over! The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe marks the end of the Church’s Liturgical Year. Next week we start the Advent Season. As we celebrate this Solemnity of Christ The King, the Liturgy and readings speak to us of the end time. It is kind of scary if we stop and think about it. What if we

are found unworthy to enter God’s kingdom and will suffer for the rest of our lives in that eternal punishment because we did not do what this weekend’s gospel is telling us we should do? Well, we need to be reminded of this from time to time because if we think we are in that situation, we still have a chance to change. Let us start right now and right here changing our-selves into the persons God wants us to be. Don’t wait for tomorrow. God gives us chances to repent. Talk to God right now and ask His help and guidance towards the path of righteousness. Taking the gospel passage this weekend as a guideline, we may do well coming into our senses and re-examine how far have we progressed in our spiritual journey. Have we really invested ourselves wisely of our gifts to contribute in building up the kingdom of God? Have we been taking care of ourselves and other people? Are we really listening to God who speaks to us in so many ways?

Intentions of Pope Francis for November 2017Pope’s Universal Intentions: Christians in Asia

BULLETIN

Stewardship Reflection: November 26, 2017 “…whatever you did for one of the least of my brothers, you did for me” - MATTHEW 25:40

Most of us are generous when it’s convenient for us. We are gen-erous when we have the time or the money. But, generosity is the opposite of that. It means giving of one’s time, money, compas-sion, forgiveness or mercy when it’s not convenient; when it’s not on our schedule, but on the other person’s schedule.

Scripture Passages: 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Reading 1: Ez 34:11-12, 15-17 / Responsorial: Ps 23:1-2, 2-3, 5-6 / Reading 2: 1 Cor 15:20-26, 28 / Gospel: Mt 25:31-46

Update on Capital Campaign: “We Are Living Stones” You may recall that the Case Items for Parish Portion are the following: • Purchase and Installation of a gas generator • Repointing of the Church • Replacement of windows on the school’s 3rd floor • Repairing the boiler in the school • Debt reduction As far as the school boiler repair is concerned, we have spent a total of $41,675.00 for the three repairs we have done. This figure will be disbursed from the Capital Campaign, which is one of the items mentioned above. Pray, dear broth-ers and sisters, that there will be no more school boiler repairs in the near future. Thank you for your generosity!

Register Yourself In The ParishTo be a registered parishioner means that you really belong to the parish family. You enjoy all the benefits of being a family member. Those who are not registered are invited and encour-age to do so. A Registration Form is available at the vestibule of the Church, in the Parish Office and Online atolmnj.org.

Advertise Your CompanyI appeal to those who want to advertise your company or your business to please do so. It will be a very big help to make our bulletin better (in color if possible) so we can give you more information and knowledge about all the goings-on or hap-penings in our communities. You can call Dave Chameides at 1-203-641-6051 or email: [email protected].

These are some of the key questions to ask ourselves to de-termine whether or not we are on the right track with God. The Church offers us what we need. Please come and take part of it. One of the Advent practices we have is the Penance Service. We will have it here at OLM on the 4th of December, Monday, at 7:30pm. Take this opportunity to come back to God, be reconciled with Him and start living a good Christian life. And once forgiven you have to forgive those who have wronged you. Do not carry around those grudges against others inside of you. Let go of those ill feelings and of being judgmental of other people. Once you do that, you will feel how it is be truly spiritually free or liberated! You will experience real joy in your heart. Another chance for taking care of your soul is to attend the Advent Parish Mission in the next few weeks. It is a very good opportunity to come to OLM and just sit down and listen to God’s voice through the missionary Friar Johnpaul Cafiero as he leads you into prayer and reflection on what is the right way to prepare yourselves for the coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ, The Prince of Peace. It is a great time to make a little retreat from your daily routine and be im-mersed in God’s realm, allowing God to speak. Please make extra effort to attend. This is all for you. This is provided for you so that you can celebrate Christmas with the knowledge of the real meaning of it and the experi-ence real joy! Thank you and God bless you all! Love,+Father Marty

Thanksgiving TreeThanksgiving Tree is up! As a tradition, in response to Matthew 25:31-46, we collect monetary donations to send to the Philip-pines for Christmas toy-giving and some hot meals to the less fortunate children in Libas, Roxas City, Capiz. Why monetary donation and not toys? It is easier, stress-free, faster and less expensive to send money and buy those toys in the Philippines than sending boxes. Thank you and God bless your generosity and your love to God’s little ones!2018 Calendars

The Our Lady of Mercy Church 2018 Calendars are gifts from Greenville Memorial Home. We are forever grateful for Louis Squitieri, Margaret “Meg” Sweeney and Nelson Martin. Please thank them whenever you see them and keep them in your prayers. The calendars will be given out on the First Sunday of Advent.

ADVENT PENANCE SERVICE Monday, December 4, at 7:30 pm

“Prepare the way of the Lord.” That is the challenge given by John the Baptist during the Ad-vent Season. One way we can respond to that challenge is by reflecting on way of living, admitting our sins and failings, and seeking God’s mercy in the Sacrament of Reconcilia-tion or Penance. We will do that as a parish family

Monday, December 4, at 7:30 pm as we gather in church for our Advent Communal Penance Service. This service will include prayer, readings, reflection, and the op-portunity for private individual confession. Attending this service is one of the best things we can do in preparation for the coming Feast of Christmas. The questions below may help you to get ready for our Penance Service.• Does God hold first place in my life? Do I nourish my relation-ship with God through regular prayer and the reading of scrip-ture?• Do I respect Sunday as the Lord’s Day? Do join my fellow Cath-olics at Sunday Mass? Do I make Sunday a day for God, for family, and for appreciating God’s gift of life and faith? Or is Sunday just another day?• Am I a source of harmony and peace, or have my actions, atti-tudes and words injured others or caused dissension? • Is there anyone I need to forgive for past hurts? Is there anyone whose forgiveness I need to seek?• Do I treat my body with respect, or have I abused it through the willful misuse of drugs, alcohol, or food? • Am I following Jesus' teachings on sexual morality? Has the Internet become my gateway to pornography? Do I treat people like sexual play things?• How have I shown compassion and concern for the poor, less fortunate, the sick, and the suffering? Have I shared my time, talent, and treasure with God’s Church?• Have I shown proper respect to my parents, teachers, employers, and all legitimate authority? As a parent do I set a good example for my children, do I encourage them to grow in their Catholic Faith?

All host families are invited to attend the 12:00 p.m. mass on Sunday, January 7, 2018, when both statues will be blessed. After mass, the first set of host families will take the statues home, where friends and relatives will join the public recitation of the Rosary. The host families will transport the statues to the next set of families the following Sunday, January 14 at a mutually conve-nient time.
