"Sometimes we are tempted to find excuses and complain, acting
as if we could only be happy if a
thousand conditions were met. To some extent this
is because our technological society has succeeded in
multiplying occasions of pleasure, yet has found
it very difficult to engender joy. Pope Francis

Sunday May 4 ~ 3rd Sunday of Easter Scripture But God raised him
up, releasing him from the
throes of death, because it was impossible for him to be held by
it. (Acts 2:24)
You will show me the path to life, abounding joy in your
presence, (Psalm 16:11)
who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your
faith and hope are in God.. (1 Peter 1:21)
he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them.
With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, (Luke
24:30,31)
Reflection Where is your faith and your hope? How has Christs
rising from the dead changed
you? When life is good who do you thank? When life goes wrong
who do you blame? Where do you find the risen one? Many men in the
past have been loved with ex-treme intensity Socrates by his
disciples, Julius Caesar by his legionnaires, Napoleon by his
sol-diers. But today these men belong irrevocably to the past; not
a heart beats at their memory. There is no one who would give their
life or even their possessions for them even though their ideals
are still being advocated. And when their ideals are opposed, no
one ever thinks of cursing Socrates or Julius Caesar or Napoleon,
because their personal-ities no longer have any influence; they are
by-gones. But not Jesus; Jesus is still loved and still cursed; men
still renounce their possessions and even their lives both for love
of him and out of ha-tred for him. No living being is as alive as
