What’s new: This week saw the bi-annual STEM event take place at Anglo. The four keynote speakers this year were Lydia Newton, from the University of East Anglia, who spoke about Higher Education routes into STEM subjects and the variety of disciplines that are accessible. Secondly, Simon King from the Physics Department at King’s College, London, and an ex-student of the Anglo European spoke about his work in nano-technology and its existing current and future applications in medicine and technology advancement. Greg Bowlt, another Anglo alumni, who, after studying in the Netherlands, gained a place via an apprenticeship route at a local engineering company, spoke about his work on cutting edge technological advances in hybrid car engines. Finally, Dr Brett McKinlay, senior lecturer in structural engineering at City University, spoke about the incredible range of opportunities available to civil engineers globally and the significance of being able to converse in a second language. Over a hundred parents and students attended this event and we are very grateful to our distinguished guests for their time and commitment in helping to inform our students of the wide ranging possible future careers in STEM.
