There has been no territorial change in the counties of Connecticut since 1890. Of the 8 counties of the state all but 1 have increased in population during the decade, the counties showing
the largest percentages of increase being Hartford, 32. 7 per cent; New Haven, 28. 7 per cent; Fairfield, 22. 7 per
oont, and Litchfield, 18.9 per cent. · Tolland county shows a decrease of 558, or 2.2 per cent, during the decade. Ta.ble 4 shows the population of Connecticut by minor civil divisions, so far as it was separately returned at the
censuses of 1890 a.nd 1900.

There are 39 incorporated cities and boroughs in Connecticut, for which the population in 1900 is separate~y returned, and these incorporated places are presented in table 5 in alphabetical order, being abstracted from table 4, m which they are presented in detail under the counties in which they are severally situated.

Of the above named 39 incorporated cities and boroughs there are only 6 that have less than ~,ooo inhabitants in 1900.
There are 5 cities that have a population in 1900 of more than 25,000, namely, New Haven, with 108,027; Hartford, with 79,850; Bridgeport, with 70,996; Waterbury, with 45,859, and New Britain, with 25,998 inhabitants. Table S shows the population of these 5 cities at each census from 1800 to 1900, inclusive, so far as the population is separately stated in the census reports at each decennial period. 'rable 7, which immediately follows, shows for each city the increase by number and per cent during each .of the ten-year periods.

.A.11 of the above named cities show a satisfactory increase during the last 10 years, the largest percentage being 60.0 for Waterbury, and the smallest 32.8 for New Haven. Waterbury has practically maintained the rate of increase reached during the preceding decade, while New Haven shows a larger .percentage of increase as compared with that for the decade immediately preceding. The rate of increase for Hartford from 1890 to 1900 is 50.0 per cent as compared with 26.6 per cent from 1880 to 1890, while New Britain shows an increase of 57.3 per cent during the last 10 years as compared with an increase of 39. 9 per cent for the preceding ten-year period. Bridgeport shows an increase of 45. 2 per cent from 1890 to 1900, whlch is considerably smaller than the rate of increase from 1880 to 1890, when it was 76. 7 per cent.
