Sheep are counted amongst the oldest animals to be domesticated for agricultural purposes. They are quadrupedal, ruminant mammals, typically kept as livestock. Though the name sheep can be used for over 200 distinct species, its everyday usage mostly refers to Ovis Aries. They are believed to have descended from the wild mouflon of Europe and Asia. Sheep are raised for fleece, meat and milk and their wool is used around the world. The milk from sheep is considered to be a very rich source of whey proteins, which also makes it easier to digest. Facts About Sheep — Height: 25-32 inches at the shoulder, Weight: 45-160 kg, Life Span: 10-12 years, Diet: Grasses and low-lying plants, Habitat: Mountains and

grasslands, Age of Sexual Maturity: 6-8 months, Gestation Period: 147 days, Number of Offspring: 1-3 lambs. Sheep are precocial animals, which imply that they have a greater degree of independence at birth. They are also gregarious by nature, as they like to be in a flock. Apart from being social animals, they also flock together for protecting themselves against any danger. Still, some breeds of sheep are solitary as well. Female sheep are called ewes, baby sheep are called lambs, and male sheep are called rams (they have prominent horns on their head). A group of sheep is called a flock. Sheep are defenseless against predators like coyotes and wild dogs, as they are timid,

Celebrant: And so, Heavenly Father, rejoicing in His Holy Incarnation, His Blessed Passion and His Perfect Sacrifice made once for all upon the Cross; His Mighty Resurrection from the dead: His Glorious Ascension into heaven: and looking for His Coming in glory; we offer to You this Bread and this Cup.

We pray that You will accept this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving; and grant that all who eat and drink of the Body and Blood, of Your Son, our great High Priest, may be renewed by Your Holy Spirit, and be one Body, one Spirit, in Him.

Let faith and love increase in us. Unite us with all Bishops, all other ministers of Your Word and Sacraments, and with the whole people of God, living and departed, whom You have made for Yourself.

An interesting aspect about sheep is that they maintain a flight zone, which is the space they keep between themselves and others. The flight distance of a sheep will depend on the situation and the meekness or wildness of the sheep. Sheep do not prefer to walk in water or pass through narrow openings, or routes. They like to move uphill, into the wind, than going downwind and downhill. Sheep are ruminants, with four chambers in their stomach. The first chamber is used to store quickly digested food, known as cud. It can be brought back into their mouths for chewing again,

before it is fully digested. Nearly one-third of sheep’s life is spent ruminating. Sheep are very selective with regard to their grazing habits. They have a split in their upper lip, which helps them pick the preferred leaves of the plant. Sheep see in color. An average sheep possesses a field vision ranging to 270 degrees. However, the amount of wool on their face can have an impact on their visual field. Due to their poor depth perception, sheep tend to avoid shadows or striking contrasts between light and dark. Sheep are known to posses an excellent sense of hearing. Being very sensitive to high frequency sound, they get scared by loud noises. *

THE PROFESSION OF FAITH: THE NICENE CREED: ALL: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. As a part of our celebrations commemorating the establishment of our Diocese 150 years ago, each Anglican is called upon to make a sacrificial offering to God for the advancement of His Church, and the wider community. The Anglican Thank Offering calls on each one of us to give according to our ability during the celebration year 2011. Sixty percent (60%) of the Offering will go to assist in the ministries and programmes of the Diocese, with 20% going to assist with social outreach and educational programmes of our church, and 20% will be used in your local parish in its programmes and ministries.

Each adult person is encouraged to give in the amounts as follows:

• Persons may give using special envelopes provided at their local parish.

• Persons may give using post dated cheques and given at their local parish. (Cheques are to be made payable to “The Anglican Thank Offering”.)

• Persons may give using their credit or debit card online at the Diocesan website - www.bahamas.anglican.org.

Complete Package

The complete package refers to our ‘tools’ for worship. This package includes: Book of Common Prayer, Hymn Book and Bible. For us to move to the next level in our Spiritual quest it will be helpful to invest in the complete package. This will be most helpful in the teaching/learning environment we now seek to enhance. The ideal is to have all members of the family make such and investment.

We Anglicans have been known as the “People of the Book”, where literacy is a hallmark. The Usher Board is to sell us, at a reasonable rate, special St. Gregory’s churchy bags to assist in the carrying around of our books. So your books are always packaged; just pick up the pack when leaving home and you are covered.

The Prayer Book comes into full gear as of the first Sunday in June. The new hymn book we begin to use as of July. The Bible we use in our every worship for teaching and preaching as of now. The Good News will be our official edition; you are free to follow in other translations of your choice. Always buy a Bible with the Apocrypha. Hymn and Prayer Books are available at both the Church and Diocese Offices.

So please secure your complete package. Allow me to say special thanks to all who have and still intend to give towards the love offering given as a gift, to the parish priest at Easter. Remember, this is done through the Special Easter Envelopes and the loose collection. It is much needed and much appreciated.

Adult Baptism

We are still accepting application for adults desirous of baptism. We have received two applications thus far. We hope to set a time early in June. Please consult the ushers or the office for applications.

Teaching

Walk Through the Bible Series; will be our study plan for Wednesday evenings 7pm-8:30pm. It will always end with Mass. Ultimately this will take us through the entire Bible and will take about five years to complete.

Anglican Doctrine; will be our course of study on Sunday evenings at our Evensong. We will explore in detail what we believe as Anglican Christians. This course never ends.

Please come encourage others to come and let us all teach and learn together.

Ministries Out-The-Gate

Wednesday past we had a preliminary meeting for those interested in Pastoral Care and Counseling, Family Life and Health Care, and Altar Guild. A number of persons have expressed interest in all three ministries and I encourage we begin and build on such interest. Any and all parishioners still interested can contact me or leave their names at the office.

Anita King has been appointed to lead in our quest with Pastoral Care and Counseling. Sheldon Morris and Celeste King are to be co-chair of Family Life and Health Care Ministries. Ellen Johnson is to give leadership with the Altar Guild.

Pastoral Care and Counseling will have a meeting on Tuesday 6pm at the Training Centre of the Public Hospital’s authority, Centreville. Family Life and Health Care meets on Thursday, 26th May at 7:30pm. Altar Guild will meet at an hour to be determined on Saturday, 21st May.

We pray God’s guidance on our way forward.
