BULLDOG NEWSLETTER A publication of the Edmond Memorial High School Parent Organization December 2017 Edition Dear Bulldog Families, It is hard to believe we are already in the month of December and the first semester is coming to an end. Our teachers and staff are hard at work making sure your students are successful as we reach the final stretch of the semester. We ask your help in keeping our Bulldogs focused in making sure projects, assignments, and finals are taken seriously. Final exams are scheduled for December 19th and 20th. (Exam dates and times are posted on page 5 of the newsletter.) We want all of our Bulldogs to be successful and focused. Though Winter Break is close, students have several opportunities for learning while preparing for first semester assessments before grades are final and posted. On a personal note, I would like to thank our Edmond Memorial families and community for the support you have given to the school. Overwhelming support is evident through our community partnerships, booster clubs, parent groups and the Memorial Parent Organization. The Edmond Memorial Bulldog tradition of support each year is one of the many reasons Edmond Memorial remains outstanding! Despite funding issues in our state, Edmond Memorial continues to provide our students with excellent learning and extracurricular opportunities due to the tremendous support you give. We especially would like to thank you for your generous nature in providing the MPO with over $14,000 to devote toward teacher and staff grants. These funds are already being put to use in making an impact on learning for your students in the classroom. What we do here at Edmond Memorial High School is a team effort. Your support is invaluable as we strive to provide your child with the best learning opportunities possible. Before Winter Break, we would like to invite each of you to come and experience some of the exciting extracurricular activities Edmond Memorial has to offer. Our Bulldog Athletes are already hard at work for the winter sport season with wrestling, swimming, and basketball in full swing. We also have opportunities to hear our fantastic band, orchestra, and vocal music groups perform at their winter concerts this month. Please see the calendar on our website to support your Edmond Memorial Bulldogs family. Finally, we would like to wish everyone a Happy Holidays and a great New Year. Enjoy your family time and we look forward to working together again next semester. Sincerely, Anthony Rose Principal, Edmond Memorial High School Your support is invaluable as we strive to provide your child with the best learning opportunies possible.

Cat and dog food, blankets, collars, and leashes as well as treats, toys, shampoo, and soap are being collected. A cash donation in the form of a check will be accepted. If interested in donating, please drop off your donated items and/or monetary gift at Peace Lutheran Church. Sarah has a display and collection bucket located in the Narthex (lobby area) of Peace Lutheran Church, 2600 East Danforth in Edmond.

A NOTE FROM THE FRESHMAN PRINCIPAL:
I want to encourage the Freshman Class to finish this semester strong. Rather than coasting into Winter Break, please buckle down and keep your head up. Keep pursuing extra guidance and help you need in your classes. Access Guided Study, if needed. Start studying now for your final semester exams. Keep making good choices. Stay positive! Make a new friend. Come to school when you do not feel like going. All of your hard work will pay off!
Respectfully,
Jeff Nemcok, Freshman Assistant Principal
Dawnetta Russell, Freshman Counselor

Have you ever looked up the definition of “THANK YOU"? Thank you means to "express gratitude, appreciation, or acknowledgment to and it also means a grateful feeling or acknowledgment of a benefit, favor, or the like, expressed by words or otherwise". So, when we say THANK YOU for donating to our iCARE Matching Challenge, it is more than just words to us - it is honestly difficult to fully express our gratitude! We had an original goal of $8,000 for this matching challenge - modest, but enough to meet our budget and double the $5,000 Teacher Grants budgeted amount. Because of your generosity, we raised $14,814.30 - Far exceeding our expectations! Your generosity allowed us to give every penny of that back to the school in the form of Teacher and Staff Grants. It is very exciting to be part of a school that supports its teachers and staff - We love our Bulldog Community! The MPO also provided pies to every faculty member at EMHS on November 21st - thanks to our Bulldog Families stepping up and donating pies. Happy faces abounded that day and once again, we thank you for lifting morale and bringing joy to our school. We will be doing a Christmas Staff Appreciation before school lets out for Winter Break - stay tuned!
The next MPO meeting is January 11 @ 12:30 p.m. - we don't meet in December. We invite you to join us! We sincerely hope that your holiday season is full of warmth, laughter, friends and family and we encourage you to reach out and touch another family who may be in need this season. Your generosity will allow their cups to overflow with holiday blessings.
