Announcements
Senior Awards Night All seniors and their parents are invited to
our Senior Awards Night on Thursday, May 23rd at 5:30 p.m. in the
Auditorium. Seniors must wear their caps and gowns.
Heart of a Champion Free sports physicals to all rising 10th,
11th, and 12th grade Butler athletes will be held on June 1, 2019.
You must register by May 27th at: Heart of a Champion. Butler
athletes MUST ride the bus from Butler to the event location.
Attendance Recovery If your student has more than 10 absences in
any class, excused or unexcused, she must make up the time after
school in Attendance Recovery, otherwise she will not pass the
class regardless of her grade. It runs Mondays through Thursdays
from 2:30 - 4:00 p.m. in our Media Center.
Saturday Recovery: We also have Saturday dates that recover two
missed classes. The Saturday dates are: May 11, 18 and June 1 from
8:00 - 11:00 a.m. in the Media Center.
If you are unsure of how many absences your child has this
semester, please call Butler and we will be more than happy to help
you!
Testing Schedule We’ve received numerous phone calls about end
of year testing. Our testing schedule is on Butler’s website and
our school calendar. June 3 through June 10, students will be
dismissed at 12:30 p.m. No earlier releases allowed, no exceptions.
Reschedule all appointments now.
May 6 through May 17: Advanced Placement (AP) Testing. Students
are NOT expected to come to school on the day of their AP exam.
This absence does not count against them. Individual test dates are
on located our full school calendar. May 23 - May 31: All A/B day
courses (except core classes) and all teacher-made exams for both
semester-long and A/B day will have their final exams during this
time. If students miss these exams, they must make them up either
June 4th or June 10th. On May 31st, the dismissal time is 12:30
p.m. June 3 - 1st block exams; dismissal 12:30 p.m. No earlier
releases. June 4 - Make-up day for missed 1st block exam, and
review day for upcoming 2nd, 3rd, and 4th block exams. June 5 - 2nd
block exams; dismissal at 12:30 p.m. No earlier releases. June 6 -
3rd block exams; dismissal at 12:30 p.m. No earlier releases. June
7 - 4th block exams; dismissal at 12:30 p.m. No earlier releases.
June 10: Make-Up Exam Day and last day of school. If students
missed an exam, they must make it up on this day. This is also our
last day of school. Dismissal at 2:15 p.m.

Announcements
Caps & Gowns We have approximately 70 seniors who have not
ordered their caps and gowns. We do not have extras. If you want to
walk in the ceremony, you must purchase a cap and gown. Buys yours
NOW at: www.highschool.herffjones.com. Herff Jones will be back one
last time on May 21 during all student lunches to distribute caps
and gowns. This is it!
Start a New Club! Does your student want to start a new club at
Butler? The application process opens May 17 and closes on May 30.
Your student must find a teacher to sponsor the club, and the club
cannot be the same or similar to what we already offer. For a list
of our current clubs, please go to Butler’s website. For an
application, see Ms. Peck in room 718.
Yearbooks Yearbooks will be distributed during all lunches
beginning May 13 through May 24. A table will be set up outside of
the Cafeteria. Students must have a photo ID to pick up their
yearbooks.
Special Thank You Butler teachers and staff would like to say a
special thank you to Nicole Perera and Susan Plemons for all of the
special treats they provided during Teacher Appreciation Week! We
also want to thank our PTSO for the wondeful luncheon today!

Graduation Your seniors should have brought home information
concerning final transcripts, graduation rehearsal, arrival times,
pictures, and do’s and don’ts. If you didn’t receive it, please ask
them for it. Rehearsal - is mandatory on June 5th at 4:00 p.m.
Graduation - is on June 11 at 3:30 p.m. Please see the materials
that were sent home with your senior for additional
information!
Summer Jobs The Career Center now has current job openings and
local fun events that are open to Butler High students. Please stop
by and see our new Career Development Coordinator, Ms. Memory, in
Student Services!

Butler Strong Promise
On April 29th, students and staff signed the Butler Strong
Promise to renew their commitment to keeping
Butler safe and to reporting anything that could be a threat
against our school or community. A memorial
plaque was placed in the lobby of the school as a memorial to
Butler student Bobby McKeithen. In the pic-
tures below, Butler Strong Promises line the entryway of the
school and surround Bobby’s memorial plaque.

JROTC Awards Ceremony
In case you missed it on our social media pages, Friday, May 3rd
was our JROTC Awards Ceremony. Cadets
received their accommodations and our senior cadets ‘passed the
torch’ so to speak, to the younger cadets.
It was a very moving ceremony filled with tradition and
pageantry.

An easy way to support Butler’s PTSO is by patronizing these
restaurants on their designated Butler Nights. A portion of the
sales is donated to our PTSO!
Jet’s Pizza Night First Wednesday of the month when school is in
session from 2:30 - 7:00 p.m. includes dine in, take out and
delivery!
Showmars Night Every Monday when school is in session, 2:30 -
7:00 p.m. at the Independence Boulevard location only. You MUST
mention Butler.
Amazon Smile - Only purchases at smile.Amazon.com (not
Amazon.com or the mobile app) support charity. When you first log
onto Smile.amazon.com, select David W. Butler High School PSO in
Matthews as your charity. A percentage of your purchase is donated
to Butler!
Link your Harris Teeter VIC card to the Butler PTSO! This is an
easy, free way to support all of our teachers and students when you
shop at Harris Teeter. Our Together in Educa-tion number is 1243.
You can link your card at your local store, online, or we can link
it for you. Email [email protected] with the last name and phone
number linked to your VIC card, or your card number. Thank you for
your support!
Publix - GREAT NEWS, Key tags are so 2017! But you do have to
log onto the Publix website, create an account with them, and link
your charity donation to Butler’s PTSO. A small price of time to
pay for no longer needing THE KEY TAG!!! For every $37,500 our
supporters spend at Publix, $250 will be given to our school at the
quarter’s end. If we haven’t reached this mark by the end of the
quarter, our balance carries over to the next quarter.
