PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Last week was really busy and I am in awe of the energy and commitment the staff at Kyogle High School have towards providing the best possible learning opportunities for our students.

Last week, many Year 10 went on the Sydney Excursion. They went to the musical production of Legally Blonde, ate at Diethenes, haunted the Rocks and Taronga Zoo and embraced all Sydney had to offer. They did so as a result of the hard work that Lindy Ruangsri and staff did in the organising of such an event.

Susan Tulloch and Mia McDonough are busy organising students for end of year activities with staff spending time doing excursion notes and risk assessments.

Congratulations to the Year 10 students who gained entry to Head Start. This is a university level course delivered to Year 11 students. It allows them to gain a credit towards future studies and opens the door for entry into Southern Cross University. The students who applied and were successful in the University unit, Communication in Organisations are Seb Anthony, Tara Byrne, Jayden Cruickshank and Gala Flower were successful. In Human Physiology, successful students were; Amy Houlden, Emily Muirhead and Mitchell Reid.

This week we had Vietnamese teachers visiting and I thank Nicole Peisto for her organisation of this and the staff who invited these visitors to their classes Congratulations to our Seniors; Captains, leaders and students who were inducted at an assembly last Thursday

Have a great week

Mrs Janeen Silcock

From the Deputy’s Desk

This morning Janeen and I received the following letter from a parent who accompanied her son (due to medical issues) on the year 10 excursion to Sydney.

Hi Janeen & Gae Just wanted to say a quick thankyou for the privilege of attending the Yr 10 excursion to Sydney this past week, as a parent/carer. I was proud to be a part of a group of students who were overall, courteous, considerate and intensely loyal to their own. As a parent, I was particularly impressed by the integrity and genuine care and affection shown by the teachers and in particular, felt Lindy should be commended for her ability to lead by example and maintain a healthy balance of discipline and love! Thanks again—what an iconic taste of multi-culturalism, history, broader education and the arts, this was for all present. ......and what an awesome window into the overall culture represented by Kyogle High School!

Helen Dodge.

Last Thursday I had the pleasure of accompanying the KEEP students on their excursion to the Planetarium in Brisbane. Their behaviour, enthusiasm and active involvement at the venue was commendable! It was fantastic to spend a day with students from KHS, KPS and Afterlee! Gae Masters Deputy Principal

COMMUNITY

NEWS

'BULANJALI' CAMP cont. from pg 1 The students learned a variety of bush and survival skills including finding fresh water, building a shelter, finding sources of bush food, making fishing line out of tree bark, making spears and hunting sources of food. Students also learnt valuable aboriginal culture lessons such as 'only take what you need' when hunting food, respect for elders, always listen and look to be aware of your surroundings and the importance of the spiritual connection between land, animals and humans. The trip was topped off with a four course aboriginal themed masterchef cookoff between the Guramans (Wallabies) and Wajongs (Dolphins) teams. An amazing experience was had by all and the students represented themselves and Kyogle High School in an outstanding manner. Well done to Maison Darragh, Lindsay Tarrant, Jay Kapodistrias, Sarah Howarth, Eve McBride, Genevieve Spinks, Ali O'Neile and Chloe Byers - this is an experience we will never forget!

Brisbane Broncos Development Day Last Thursday, Students at Kyogle High School were privileged to have had the opportunity to experience a rugby league training session conducted by the Brisbane Broncos which included Paul Dyer (Game Development Manager), Former NRL Player- Simon Scanlan, Fletcher Holmes (Broncos Game Development Officer) and former origin and test player - Michael Hancock. Approximately fifty boys and girls across all year groups participated in a range of new and exciting rugby league skills and drills. The students underwent an intensive training session that focused on both offensive and defensive game development. Many of the students got to experience the level and intensity they would be expected to train at to meet the demands of the game at its highest level. The session lasted for 45 minutes followed by a 15 minute talk by the Brisbane Bronco team on respectful attitudes and positive behaviour and conduct. Kyogle High School would like to thank the Brisbane Bronco’s school development team for making the effort to provide our students with a rare and exciting opportunity. All the students that participated on the day have spoken very highly about the experience and look forward to similar

opportunities in the near future. Mr Rasborsek Sports Organiser.

Points to Consider When Buying a Used Car

Know what type of vehicle is allowed. The prohibited vehicle

condition restricts provisional (P1 and P2) drivers from driving

certain high performance vehicles.

Prohibited vehicles are those with:

Eight or more cylinders (except diesel).

A turbocharged engine (diesel exempt).

A supercharged engine (diesel exempt).

Engine performance modifications that require an engneer’s

certificate.

Certain high performance six cylinder engines. Visit the P1/P2 –

High performance vehicle restrictions page on www.rta.com.au

Know what you want. Do your research, consider what type of

car will suit, whether manual or automatic, what the car will be

used for, running costs (including maintenance and repairs) and

level of safety.

Know what to check. Check the vehicle’s identity; its VIN

(vehicle identification number), engine number, compliance

number plate, and check to see whether the vehicle has money

owing on it. REVS (www.revs.nsw.gov.au) can also tell if the

car’s been stolen, re-registered or classified as a write-off.

Know how it drives. Take the vehicle for a test drive, but

before you do, make sure the seller has an insurance policy that

will cover it if there is a crash. Listen for odd noises and rattles,

check the engine and how it runs, and check the brakes and the

steering.

Is your car worthy? When deciding between cars, choose the

one with the highest Used Car Safety Rating. Visit

www.mynrma.com.au

A comprehensive pre-purchase safety inspection and an

authorised inspection (pink slip) will ensure your car is in good

enough shape to be driven on the road. Ensure that all faults are

repaired before you take possession of the vehicle.
