Extension Office Weather Closings & Cancelations The weather is starting to change and that means there might be delays and cancelations. Our office will post on
Facebook if programs are cancelled due to weather. Find us on Facebook under Buchanan County ISU Extension. Our office follows the Independence School District in determining snow days or delayed starts.
We want our volunteers and families to be safe.

Calving Simulation Opportunity!
YQCA certification (formally known as FSQA) is being accepted by many livestock shows and fairs that require
youth quality assurance certification. View the list here, but always check the entry requirements of each
show for complete details.
YQCA includes information for youth showing the following food animals:
• Pigs
• Beef Cattle
• Dairy Cattle
• Sheep
• Goats
• Market Rabbits
• Poultry
YQCA is available as an online program for youth everywhere in the United States. YQCA in-person work-
shops may be available to youth where state 4-H or FFA offices or state/national livestock organizations have
partnered to have qualified trainers offer in-person workshops.
Please see the calendar for in-person training dates to be held at Heartland Acres. Cost for in-person training
is $3; online training is $12. Please call ahead if attending an in-person training.

FSA Rural Youth Loans
Did you know the Farm Services Agency (FSA) office
offers loans to youths age 10-20 to start and
operate money making projects? The loans are
perfect for 4-H or FFA members, or for those who
need some start up dollars. Loans cannot be more
than $5,000 and can be used to buy livestock,
equipment, or pay for operating expenses. It is a
great way for youth to be introduced to loans and
money management. See the included complete
brochure for more details. If interested, please
contact the FSA office at 319-334-2543.
