With a target for substantial completion in mid-September, the entire team is digging in for a few more weeks of hard work. Over the last month, the team has made significant progress on the interior finishes including flooring, wall coverings, paint, handrails, lighting and ceilings. The new textures and colors being applied to the walls are really bringing the project to life. As you walk through the building, you can really see what the finished product will look like and get a feeling of what it will be like to live in the space. Some other milestones that were reached over the last month include the start-up of the heating / cooling systems and the completion of all the building firestopping. The activation of the heating and cooling system is particularly important because we can start to control the interior environment and humidity. The finish materials that we are installing are particularly sensitive to humidity so we must ensure the proper environment for the highest quality installation. Much has been accomplished in a short period of time and much more still needs to be completed… don’t worry though; the project is tracking right on schedule. Until the next issue, have a great few weeks! - John Parker, Project Manager [email protected] Upcoming Milestones » Drywall Complete » Painting Complete » Handrail and Wall Protection Complete Safety Spotlight As the project enters its final stages, we are bidding farewell to our third party safety auditor, Tammy Clark. If you have been on-site during her inspections, you know that she is very thorough and is very passionate about the safety of everyone on-site. Elzinga & Volkers wants to thank Tammy for her assistance in keeping us all safe and her unwavering commitment to construction safety. See you on the next one!

Executive SummaryThe home stretchWe have offi cially hit the, “home stretch” on the UMRC HFA project. With a target for substantial completion in mid-September, the entire team is digging in for a few more weeks of hard work. Over the last month, the team has made signifi cant progress on the interior fi nishes including fl ooring, wall coverings, paint, handrails, lighting and ceilings. The new textures and colors being applied to the walls are really bringing the project to life. As you walk through the building, you can really see what the fi nished product will look like and get a feeling of what it will be like to live in the space. Some other milestones that were reached over the last month include the start-up of the heating / cooling systems and the completion of all the building fi restopping. The activation of the heating

Quality ControlAs mentioned earlier in this newsletter, some of our fi nish materials are very sensitive to high humidity. One of those items is the glue used for our vinyl fl ooring. For the last few months, we have been continuously checking the moisture level of the concrete fl oors on the project. The relative humidity (RH) of these slabs must be at a certain level to guarantee that the fl ooring will adhere. To date, the concrete fl oor is still showing higher RH than what is allowed by the manufacturer. Because of this high RH level, Elzinga & Volkers has authorized the use of BoneDry®, a product that seals the fl oor and allows the fl ooring installer to warranty the installation of the vinyl fl ooring.

In this issue, we would like to thank Peter’s Building and Cowey Hayes Construction. Peter’s and Cowey Hayes are providing carpentry labor to the project and installing most of our handrail, cabinets and millwork. We are happy to have those local companies on the project with us. Thank you for all your hard work!

Two Week Look AheadThe trades have been moving in full force installing all of the interior fi nishes. In the next two weeks there will be a fi nal push of “catch up” in Quadrant #1 with carpet, tile and sheet vinyl installations by Commercial Interior Resources. United Mill will be delivering the millwork and counter-tops to be installed by the fi nished carpenters throughout the addition. As these fi nishes are installed the interior is really beginning to take shape. The corridor carpeting will be the fi nishing touch in all quadrants, but will be held off until nearly all trades are completed throughout the building. On the exterior of the building, Green Magic Growers will begin to work their Magic on the perimeter of the building by laying out fl ower beds and plantings while waiting for the courtyard drainage and hardscape to be completed.
