Let Builder™ save time, money and frustration throughout the reservoir simulation process. Through the use of 2D and 3D visualization or keyword input, users are able to easily preparereservoir simulation models. Reservoir Engineers will realize immediate time savings fromeffectively navigating the often complex process of preparing reservoir simulation models.

As a result, Builder – in conjunction with CMG reservoir simulators – makes simulationtechnologies more accessible to all organizations, even those with little previous experiencein modelling.

DESCRIPTION & APPLICATIONSBuilder, a Windows† based application, is a menu-driven reservoir simulation model creation, editing and visualization program for generating input data for all CMG software products – STARS™, GEM™, IMEX™, CMOST™ and WinProp™. The Builder interface is designed to enhance userproductivity. New users will benefi t from the easeof use for model creation and editing, whileadvanced users will appreciate the “simulatorKEYWORD format”.

To enhance compatibility between simulators, DataImporter will convert IMEX black-oil models to GEM or STARS for advanced process projects, and will convert ECLIPSE† black oil models into IMEX format. Builder can also import production/injection history fi les to automatically generate recurrent data for history-matching purposes.

Builder, combined with Results™, providesa framework for data integration and workfl owmanagement between CMG’s reservoir simulators and the “outside world”. Optimize the reservoirsimulation model through accurate data im-portation from third-party geological modelling programs, such as Petrel†, GOCAD†, RMS† & EarthVision†.Geological data accepted by Builder includessimulation grids, reservoir properties, fault surfac-es and well trajectories, including support for theindustry standard RESCUE static model dataexchange format.

Builder also allows the user to quickly generate PVT tables, from various correlations, for input to the CMG simulators using a series of simpletemplate panels. The menu system provides the user with many choices, while providingappropriate defaults for convenience. Standard correlations for oil properties and viscosity are also available.

Builder’s Hydraulic Fracture wizard can be used to easily createdifferent complexities, from simple bi-wings (as shown) to complex networks.

BUILDER PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Microseismic data from a hydraulic fracturing treatment is importedinto Builder and used to create a stimulated reservoir volume.

ADVANCED PROCESSESBuilder includes workfl ow wizards to assist users in creating advanced processes simulations. The wizards are designed for creating well locations for single-pattern or multiple repeated pattern fl ooding models, locally refi ned grids (LGR)surrounding wells to model transient, non-Darcy fl ow through propped fractures, and reactions for modelling in situ combustion, Alkaline-Surfactant-Polymer (ASP) fl ooding, foamy heavy oil produc-tion, and fi nes migration.

Builder can import well trajectories from a variety of sources, and almost any kind of tabular data can be imported in ASCII or MS Excel† format (e.g. for PVT, relative permeability, capillary pres-sure, vertical lift performance, and production/injection histories).

MICROSEISMICUsers are able to import microseismic data into Builder and to use as a guide, directly and indirectly, to the size and extent of the stimulated reservoir volume (SRV). The SRV can be modeled in IMEX or GEM with locally refi ned, logarithmically spaced, dual permeability grids that accurately match both early time and late time production data.

HYDRAULIC FRACTURINGBuilder provides more accurate modellingof hydraulically fractured wells in tight single porosity and naturally fractured (e.g. shale gas) reservoirs using the ‘fractured well LGR wizard’. This wizard will automatically and correctly adjust values of fracture permeability and the non-Darcy fl ow coeffi cient to match transient, non-Darcy fl ow, as if the model had actual propped fractureddimensions.

2012 NEWFEATURES• Trajectory smoothing

technique allows users to intersect the reservoir more realistically

• For STARS simulations, FlexWells supports the REPLACE keyword. Users now only need to create one FlexWell rather than two.

• Import multiple PVT regions with averages into IMEX

• Improved performance on model initialization

• Geomechanics visualization now available in 2D and 3D for GEM and STARS models

• Save time for sensitivity analysis in CMOST using the Formula Manager
