OFFICIAL SHOW PROGRAMME
A Note From The Director If everything has gone to plan, by now you should have been transported to
New York of the 1930’s and sitting in Fat Sam’s Grand Slam Speakeasy, enjoying an
illegal drink of sarsaparilla (well we are in the prohibition period), and listening to
some cool jazz. On a totally politically incorrect mode we have our own cigarette girl
passing among you with a selection of cigarettes and cigars for sale, chocolate ones
of course, and our waiters and waitresses may even be able to tempt you with a
‘mocktail ‘or two before the show begins.
May I first offer my sincere thanks for supporting our club, the Iver Heath
Drama Club, by coming along to our production of ‘Bugsy Malone’.
This production has been a new adventure for the club, as it is the first time we have
taken on a full Musical. Now seventeen weeks after we started rehearsals our
performance nights have arrived! With only one night a week rehearsal and the
occasional day over the weekend; It has been seventeen weeks of hard work for
everyone involved With a lot of the cast involved with GCSE and A Level exams and
others doing degrees, you can wonder why we did it. But taken it on we have and the
cast have worked really hard and have been focused (most of the time!) to put this all
together in the time span, I just hope they all attain the grades they were expected to
get in their exams or this director may have to flee the country sometime in August!
Like all these things this has been a major team effort, and I can’t thank them
all enough; Vicci for sorting out all the music, putting the band together and teaching
the cast the songs. Katie for coming up with some great choreography and succeeding
in teaching the cast to dance it and Claire for some brilliant bursts of inspiration.
Hilary and Suzie for beg, borrowing, stealing and hiring all the costumes. Les and
James for the most amazing lighting show in our history. Dexi for being thrown in at
the last minute with make up and hair, and running a workshop as well. Matt, doing
the best job ever on marketing and advertising, leaving no stone unturned, or no
letterbox in a 10 mile radius without a flyer of some sort! Sandra for running the box
office and just being there as a sounding board. Then there is Donna and Carol, two
of the mum’s who without a doubt, if it wasn’t for them I don’t think we would be here
today, they collect the subs, make the tea, go hunting for props, make chocolate
cigars, and have basically never said no (to my face anyway) to attempting any of
the madcap ideas I have suggested to them.
If I have forgotten anyone then I apologize and will make it up to them later,
oh of course, the cast – thanks guys it’s now all up to you. I’m always accused of
waffling on too much so my guess it’s time I signed off, so sit back, have a mocktail
and chocolate cigar and enjoy ‘Bugsy Malone’.
