We are really into paper crafts lately and this one is great for toddlers. As a bonus, making these colorful caterpillars is a fun way to practice color recognition.

Supplies

• Paper • Pencil • Marker • String • Scissors • Glue Stick or glue dots • Circle stencil

Step One

Have children trace circle shapes on pieces of colored paper. You will need six or seven circles for each caterpillar you want to make.

Page 13: Bugs...Bugs by Andrew McMeel Big bugs little bugs Buggy bug by Chris Raschka Biscuit in the garden by Alyssa Satin Capucilli Is it an insect by Cricket These bees count by …

Step Two

Cut out the paper circles. Smaller children may need help with this.

Step Three

Have children draw a caterpillar face on one of their colored circles.

Step Four

Using the glue stick, have them glue the circles on the paper to create a caterpillar’s body.

Step Five

Finally, have children glue their caterpillar’s head in place, tucking two pieces of string behind it to represent antennae.

DLTK's Crafts for Kids Paper Cup Circle Caterpillar Craft

contributed by Leanne Guenther

This is a simple craft that will let your little crafters excercise their imaginations. You can stamp the circles to make the caterpillar's body using the top or bottom of a cup or a TP roll. Use as many colors as you like and get creative when drawing the face of your caterpillar.

Materials:

• white paper • paper cups, plastic cups or TP rolls • paint in a variety of colours • marker, pencils or pencil crayons

Instructions:

• Dip the edge of the cup into the paint and then press it onto the white paper.

• Stamp about 5 or 6 attached circles (in different colors if you like) to make a caterpillar.

• Let dry. • Draw a face in the front circle and little feet under the other circles.
