The QCA Weekend Away (in Maryborough)

(Friday 7th - Sunday 9th August 2015)

What a fantastic weekend of Fun, Friendship and Dancing.

Heritage City Hoedowners Club night on Friday night saw 5 QCA callers in action.

The Saturday morning QCA quarterly meeting was attended by 11 members.

Saturday afternoon saw 2 ½ squares of Plus dancers with 4 QCA callers.

10 QCA Callers had 3 ½ squares on their toes for the Saturday night dance.

Sunday Morning was the Callers Training session - conducted by Michael Mills.

11 QCA members in attendance, a very informative morning.

Thankyou so much to the Heritage City Hoedowners club for hosting this great weekend.

We are all looking forward to next years weekend away.

“Let’s Make the Scene in Twenty-15”

EZ Squares

All systems go at our club with the 35th Qld State Square Dance Convention just around the corner. Arrangements are going very well and club members are busy with the final touches. So far there are 106 dancers registered for the convention and 22 callers and cuers. These numbers do not include the dancers who will choose to attend a session or sessions. There are up to four squares and when some of our travelling members arrive back we could manage five squares. We invite all interested dancers to join us if they are free on Tuesday nights. 7.00 pm start and program includes plus, mainstream and beginners who are all progressing well. 2016 Caller / Cuer Conference

Calling Queensland Callers, Trainees and would like to be Callers.

Did you know that the Australian Callers Federation (ACF) is hosting a Caller Cuer Conference prior to the National Convention?

Paul Bristow (UK), Ken Ritucci (USA) and Steve Turner (Australia) will be featured presenters.

Qld. Square Dance Society is offering subsidies to callers/cuers who are the listed as Caller/Cuer for Society Affiliated clubs e.g. those that are listed on the club's affiliation form are eligible to receive $ 50.00 for full time callers and $ 30.00 for Trainee callers. Application forms are available from the Square Dancing Society, the QCA, or from the conference website: http://acfcallercuerconference2016.weebly.com To apply for this subsidy the caller is asked to forward to Society Secretary their receipt for payment to register to attend the Caller Conference. The Secretary will then forward a letter either advising of the acceptance or otherwise. If accepted then the letter will state required details e.g. their bank account so that the Treasurer can transfer the money. Be part of the National and attend the Conference to learn from some of the best Callers. David Pearce. Publicity officer.

Club Closures - State Convention Weekend

Many Clubs will be closed for the State Convention weekend. Here are some who would like it know they will be back in full swing after their leaders return from the 35

th State Convention

Hervey Bay; As many of us will be attending the Qld State Convention end of Sep-

tember there will be no dancing at Hervey Bay Square Dance Club on Saturday 26th ,

nor on Monday 28th. Back to normal as of Wednesday 30th. See you at Caboolture.

Rambling Eights: Not dancing on Friday 26th September, David & Faith will be back

on duty for October 2nd.

SUNCOASTERS SQUARE DANCE CLUB

On the weekend of Friday, 31 July – Sunday, 2 August, Suncoasters celebrated the

30th anniversary of the Sunshine Coast Square Dance Centre with two days and nights

of great dancing with Graham Elliott from Adelaide and James Reid from Brisbane as

callers. They gave us a wonderful time and we had twelve squares of dancers on the

floor including dancers from Adelaide, Victoria and New South Wales as well as from

Brisbane, Gold Coast, Gympie, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay and Rockhampton.

Quite a few caravanners were camping in the grounds of the Centre and a few visiting

dancers slept in our hall and I am sure they all enjoyed themselves.

Rambling Eights – Caller: David Pearce

While David and Faith are busy touring and shopping overseas for a few weeks we are all enjoying the calling of Noel McKenzie. With his sultry voice and fun moves our dancers will be entertained capably. Our community fundraiser had its first draw in August with Julie and Liz being the lucky ladies. Don’t be discouraged men, your turn may be next. Win or lose, it is all for a good cause with the money raised accumulating for a donation of money and/or gifts to a children’s charity at Christmas. Dancers are asked to bring childhood photos of themselves during September to be copied and placed on a board for a guessing competition in October. The person who is best at correctly naming the person in the photo will re-ceive a prize. It could be interesting to see how we have ‘matured’ over the years. Numbers for our club outing on the 14

th November are growing. Don’t leave it

Cairns City Square Dance Club At Cairns City Squares we have had quite a busy month. On 8/9

th August we were hosts of the delegates Dance in Cardwell. Club

members from Townsville and Cairns Clubs of Ulysses, U3A and Cairns City Squares attended. It was a very enjoyable time of dancing to the callers and fellowship in the lovely setting of Cardwell. Last Friday the club held our Golden Memories Dance. We did not have a big number of dancers due to illness and members being away. Never-theless we had a great time with a delicious supper afterwards. We welcomed members from Ulysses Club and U3A. Our visitors last month were Jimmitt Marlow, Barry Paterson, Fay and William Rowbury from Maroochydore who were very welcome. Ian and Jenny are having a wonderful holiday in Europe and England. Our normal Friday nights continue with Mainstream and easy Plus. That is all our news for this month. Janet Hansen - Publicity Officer




CANE COUNTRY SQUARE DANCE CLUB

At our recent "Sausage Sizzle" nineteen members sat down to eat freshly cooked sausages and onions to have with salads, followed by sweets and icecream, coffee/tea and socializing before dancing commenced. Two sets danced part of the night and while some members were resting, Matthew called for a six couple set. It was nice to see Noeleen and Chris dancing with us again after a long break. Matthew has commenced a trial class for 8 weeks of square danc-ing at our local university to see what interest there is at that loca-tion. This can include students, teachers and people of any age. Hervey Bay Square Dance Club

Hi Everyone, Five of us travelled to Buderim for the 30th Anniversary Dance at Suncoasters. It was a caravan and camping weekend. We took camping to a new level and slept on the hall floor with airbeds and sleeping bags. It turned out a cold weekend but amazingly enough we were all snug. Graham Elliott and James Reid kept us hopping with their calls. It was most enjoyable dancing and the Saturday night social and bonfire was great too. James sang an array of lovely songs while we all partook of damper and syrup. Quite a number of our club members attended the Callers School Dance in Maryborough. It was wonderful to see so many on the floor dancing to a variety of callers. To celebrate Seniors Week we did a demo at Pialba Place Shopping Complex. It looked like everyone enjoyed our routines. We like to 'fly the flag' at every opportunity. The last few weeks we have had the pleasure of dancing with visitors Norma and Graeme from Launceston and Priscella and Barry from Bribie Is. We hope they enjoyed our hospitality as much as we enjoyed dancing with them. Bye for now. Glenda

SUNCOASTERS SQUARE DANCE CLUB

Wow what a fantastic week-end was had to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Sunshine Coast Square

Dance Centre. Visitors from other Qld regions, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia travelled to

be entertained by the guest callers for the week-end. Graham Elliot and James Reid joined forces after a

break of 3 + years to provide a brilliant week-end of calling. Mainstream to “A” dancers where well catered

for.

Friday night was the start, and it just got better. We danced Saturday after noon and night and ended Satur-

day night with the usual sing-along and damper around the camp fires. Weather was very kind to us and

was not overly cold. Unfortunately due to Gene Medford’s recent health problems he was unable to attend

but James filled his shoes very well at short notice. We returned again on Sunday for more dancing. We

finished with a social sausage sizzle, and unwound with a few beveridges around the Barbie with the many

campers still on site.

All in all and fantastic week-end of fun, and fellowship.

A special thankyou to the members of Suncoasters for their assistance over the week-end.

SUNCOASTERS ROUND DANCE CLUB

We have recently started a new class – Jive. It is great to see the enjoyment that these dancers are getting

from achieving this rhythm. We have changed the structure of our dance night and now concentrate on 1

rhythm at a time. Congratulations group you are going very well. What rhythm will we tackle next?

SUNCOASTERS CENTRE CLOGGERS.

We are a happy little group of Cloggers who meet each Wednesday for a night of fun and relaxation. A new

group has recently started during the day on Wednesday. They are going very well and are achieving a lot

of different dance forms under the watchful eyes of Carol. Bev is enjoying the opportunity of dancing as

well as cueing to the group.

HI All. Just a quick update for the National. If you are thinking about registering for the 4th July

dance better get in quick. Numbers are filling fast and once that magical number is reached sorry

no more tickets will be sold. This dance will feature only the International Presenters from the Call-

er Cuer Conference.

WE have now over 650 dancers registered to attend our convention which we hope will be a bottler.

STEPPING OUT WITH CLOGGING

Here we go, here we go, here we go, off to Gosford on the New South Wales Central

Coast for the ACA 20th National Clogging Convention on the 11th, 12th and 13th

September.

Starting with an Hawaiian-themed trail-in dance on the Thursday night before the

Convention, (bring your Hawaiian shirt and floral leis for what will be one heck of a

fun night), the following day will have us on a beautiful, , relaxing Brisbane Waters

Cruise, then ON WITH THE DANCING that night.

Best wishes for an enjoyable, happy time to everyone attending from all around

Australia and New Zealand.

SUGGESTION: If you’re not going to the Convention, check with the Club(s) you

attend to make sure if they are dancing over the Convention period e.g. CHUGS at

Coorparoo will be closed on both Tuesday 8th and 15th September. DOUBLE JINGLE

at Lutwyche will be open on the 10th but closed on 17th. 50PLUS in the Brisbane City

Hall will be up and dancing each Monday morning as per usual. SUNSTATE will not

be in session at Runcorn on Thursday night, 10th September. EZ CLOGGERS at

Caboolture will not be dancing on Sunday 13th.

How’s this for dedication to Clogging? Our dear friends, Michael and Sally Lim will

be flying in from Malaysia to attend the Convention, and will be off back to Malaysia

shortly after the fun and festivities in Gosford conclude.

GET RHYTHM has two new members hitting the boards with the Team: WELCOME

Delwyn and Chris- we’re sure you will enjoy being part of bringing entertainment and

lots of smiles to audiences at various venues during the year. Three separate events

over August were received enthusiastically by our ‘fans’.

You can’t buy HAPPINESS, but a good CLOGGING session comes pretty close.
