These training days are a fun way of raising money for the WBKA projects in
Zambia, supporting Parkinsons SA, and other local charities
Big thank you to Sempai Jamie for taking charge of our
Young Samurai group
We will see the improvements this
class will have made in the coming
grading. Also thank you to young
Danna who has also been assisting
Sampai.
This now allows Tony sensei to
concentrate on his Happy samurai
class.
Well done to everyone……WBKA Zambia Project
We have been able to help bring fresh water to the orphans of our sister dojo in Kitwe.
Bret Smith (UK Shodai Martial Arts Club) has been out in Zambia assisting Jonathan
Kruger sensei. Before we can lay the foundations of the toilets and classroom fresh water
needed to be found (16meters down in the earth) for the toilet block. This is where your
efforts and donations have gone….well done to all..!
Carl sensei hits Rome
Carl Sensei was invitied by
Bruno Ballardini Sensei who has a
wonderful group of students who are
dedicated and enthusiastic.
Sensei had a wonderful time teaching
the class. He was given a short tour
of Rome, then after training was
treated to a late dinner with Sensei
and his students.
Women only Aikido Classes coming soon
We will be offering class for any ladies that wish to learn Aikido must be over
15yrs of age. If you know anyone interested then please let Carl sensei know.
It is anticipated that these classes will begin approximately mid-August.
Classes will be specifically tailored limited
Shodai Aikido is a unique and original style of aikido
The aikido was brought to the shores of the UK by the first generation of instructors
Kinshiro Abbe sensei in the 1950’s, and taught to my instructor and then came Noro &
Nakazona sensei’s.
Aikido and the techniques have altered over the decades and depending on if the
instructor was taught at the hombu or Iwama also varied.
Today we see many differing styles of aikido from Tomiki to Kai aikido.
I have been asked countless times what style of aikido I do, to which I have replied “I just
do aikido”!
In more recent times I have stated to the same question 1st Generation Aikido, from the
first generation of instructors that come out of Japan in the 1950’s and early 60’s. It seems
in this modern day that more and more people need labels to hang on things. So I have
decided to label the aikido I have been taught, and teach as “Shodai Aikido” meaning first
generation aikido!
