Supporting the Buckley Youth Activity Center
Partnerships Make It Possible The Youth Center, built in 2008 through a Community Develop-
ment Block Grant to the City of Buckley, funding support from the
Pierce County Council, and community donations, continues to
thrive because of community partnerships and grant support.
The City of Buckley provides a large portion of staff-
ing expenses, oversees staff and provides building
maintenance. Police & Fire Dept. personnel interact
with our youth and invite us to visit their facilities.
We appreciate the support of Councilman
Dan Roach and the Pierce County Council
who allocates our largest funding source, the Pierce County Youth
Violence Prevention grant ($22,780 awarded for 2018).
The School District provides lunches to kids
of all ages during the summer months, a
building for our Bicycle Co-Op and invites
our Youth Center staff to attend staff in-service workshops.
Local Organizations & Businesses
We are grateful for the many business and organization partners
that support our work: Buckley Eagles, Buckley Library & Friends of
the Library, Community Presbyterian Church, Buckley Kiwanis
Leadership & Community Known as YAB, the Youth Advisory Board focuses on youth empow-
erment through leadership skill development, community building,
career exploration and giving a voice to youth in program planning at
the Center. Youth participants invest in our community through ser-
vice projects and engage in our community by visiting and learning
about local businesses, organizations and city services.

What’s New in 2018? Social emotional development themes
are being woven into our program by
BYAC staff. Academic tenacity,
competent decision making and social
problem solving will foster
interpersonal skills and promote
independence while global awareness
and culture provide a platform for
humanitarianism and inclusion.
Buckley Youth Activities is a non-profit organization supporting the work of the Buckley Youth Activity Center, whose mission is to encourage youth to enhance their education, support their independence, and encourage their involvement
in the community. The Youth Center provides a positive and safe atmosphere for education, recreation and companionship.
