to hear from you. I’m here for a reason… and the reason is to serve all of you, so that you can better serve your homes, schools, divisions, and communities.
INTERNATIONAL TRUSTEE’S MESSAGEGet to know her, then see her at Fall Rally, just another great reason to go !
My name is Cecelia Ferguson, and it is an honor, pleasure, and utmost privilege to be serving as your International Trustee for the 2012-2013 year! As your Trustee, my duty is to link all of you, the voices of the Ohio District, to the highest governing body of Key Club, the International Board. Not only am I absolutely ecstatic to be serving on the Key Club International Board of Trustees this year, but I am also incredibly exuberant to be specifically representing Ohio, a district filled with spirit and a family like atmosphere.
On a more personal note, I am from Tampa, Florida and I will be a senior at Tampa Bay Technical High School. I love my family, friends, animals, and school. I enjoy cooking and eating food! I love to sleep my Saturdays away. I collect office supplies, especially if they happen to be Key Club merchandise! I enjoy a good day at the beach and a nice tan. And lastly, traveling the world is number one on my bucket list.
Along with the aspirations of being an amazing and hard working International Trustee, I have three
goals I hope to accomplish in my term as an International Trustee:
1. Strengthen the Kiwanis-Family by building connections between the local Kiwanis Clubs and the High School Key Clubs in my three assigned districts.
2. Bring clubs, district, and international levels closer together through consistent communication with my three assigned district boards.
3. Direct communication to you, the members of Key Club, through a member website, social media, and newsletters created to keep members in the loop with regards to the happenings at the International level of Key Club.
If you ever have a question about Key Club, service, leadership, elections, my goals for this year, or anything of the like, I’d love
Didnt get to meet her at ICON ? Here’s your chance to meet
DISTRICT GOVERNOR'S MESSAGEShe’s excited to start this new year , and here’s your chance to learn more about her !
Ohio District Key Clubbers, I am so honored to be your 2012-2013 Ohio District of Key Club International Governor. This is going to be a great year! I plan to uphold my campaign and lead the Ohio District to success. Since being elected at the Ohio District Convention in April, I have been working my hardest to lead the Ohio District Board Members but this organization starts with you. Key Club can run without a Governor but can not run without members. So I would like to thank you for your service and desire for a better world. This summer has been a long one. Since being elected, I have represented the OhioDistrict at several events. I have been to the Governor/Administrator Training Conference, June Board Meeting, International Convention , Leadership Convention, and Kiwanis District Convention. At each of these events, I either
received training or got to talk about the Mighty Ohio District and educate others. The Ohio District Board members are currently busy planning for Fall Rally and District Convention. Trust me they are going to be amazing! I look forward to meeting you in the near future at one of these events!
Key Clubbers do not make keys, we make a difference.

What it is and why you
should consider it
HIGHER OFFICE?!Key club is an international organization. This was a factI was not aware of when I first joined key club. You can be a member, a club present, or if you want you can go further and explore the higher offices of this wonderful organization. The great thing about key club is there is always a place for you, somewhere for your talents. That may be running a craft project for hospitalized kids, balancing the checkbook as treasurer , or being the international trustee for thousands of key clubbers. Its all out there, here’s a little intro to some higher office offerings.
Lieutenant Governor - Lieutenant Governors are responsible for overseeing the clubs in their divisions, coordinating division wide projects and serving as voting members of the District Board. This is a great way to get to know the clubs in your area!Governor-The Governor is in charge of overseeing the district and directing and leading the district board. It is a very difficult and consuming job, but also incredibly rewarding, with opportunities to travel around the state and country, and deepen your key club connections.International Trustee- They serve on the international board, committees and network with their districts (3 usually) this is also a large commitment , but is a wonderful opportunity.
Pizza (who doesn't love food)Key clubbers ! Its time to make some new friends from all over the state Okay... maybe the characters from madagascar will not make a visit, but you can’t get that song of your head now right? If you don't know what I'm talking about , google “polka dot afro song”

If you missed ICON 2012 here’s what happened
Icon (International Convention)
was held this year in beautiful
Orlando Florida and was a blast for
all that attended.
We flew down (made new
friends on the plane ride) and got
to go to a Disney park on the first
day. Epcot, Magic Kingdom,
Animal kingdom ,MGM, fun was
had by all.
The next day everyone
registered, ate way too much at
Disney restaurants, Had fun at the
meet and greet (fell off the
mechanical surfboard ) and had a
chance to meet the candidates for
international office.
Later the candidates and issues
to the international bylaws were
voted on in the house of delegates.
Your new International President is
Rebecca Riley from the Alabama
district.
We then adjourned to dinner
where we took up about half of an
italian restaurant trying to eat
dinner all together as a group.
As icon drew to a close we
visited one more park, collected
the last of our pin collection, went
swimming, bought disney hats and
attempted to fit everything back
into our suitcases.
A great time was had by all, join
in next year, go to Washington Dc in
2013!!
30 key clubbers, 1 hotel , 4 disney parks = Crazy awesome times

THE 2012 DISTRICT SERVICE PROJECT
Hello Key Clubbers!
My name is Darpan Kaur, I am the lieutenant governor of division 3, and the chair
of District Service Project. I am very thrilled to inform everyone about this year’s
District Service Project (DSP)!
District Service project is a service project that is chosen every year by DSP
committee members. This project is then organized by the committee and
promoted to the Ohio District Key Club board, who then encourage their clubs to
participate in the DSP. This year’s DSP is Hope in the Hospital. Hope in the hospital is
a great opportunity for key clubbers to give back to their local hospitals as well as
larger hospitals in Ohio.
Each year there are thousands of people in hospital; Hope in the hospitals will
help bring hope to the sick patients, families, and visitors. Right now you must be
thinking how you can possibly contribute to Hope in the Hospital! There are many
ways you can show your support! Make cards for patients at your local hospitals;
this can be easily done at a key club meeting. Get your club to pair up and make
blankets that can be distributed to Children’s Hospital. Raise money for hospital or
Get ready for a fun Halloween Key Club TraditionMajor Emphasis Projects provide Key Club
International with a unique way to focus all of our energy on impacting the most
children worldwide. Beginning in 1946, the Major Emphasis lives through the motto,
“Children: Their Future, Our Focus.” Key Clubs fulfill this mission through many hands-
on activities in their communities and through localized efforts with Key Club’s
three partner organizations: Children’s Miracle Network, March of Dimes, and
UNICEF.
The United Nations Children’s Fund
—popularly known as UNICEF—devotes its time and efforts to aiding children and
mothers in developing countries by improving education and by eliminating
diseases such as malaria, HIV/AIDS, and MNT.
Though the effects of this organization are seen so far away, it is very
easy for Key Clubbers all over to assist. One of the easiest methods to help the UNICEF
cause occurs once a year during many
children’s favorite holiday: trick-or-treat for
UNICEF.
While going around your
neighborhood on your regular routes scoring delicious candy, there is an effortless way to
make a good impact on our world simultaneously. Just raise the iconic little
orange UNICEF box and politely ask for any spare change.
To maximize the impact you can have, challenge your club. Whoever
collects the most amount of change in your club could win whatever spare prize you
have laying around your home. Maybe you could throw a Halloween day at your
school. Ask your principle of students can dress up in (appropriate) costumes if they
donate money to UNICEF. Or possibly have your club host a Halloween party and
encourage donations. Getting involved is so easy.
To preorder your Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF boxes for yourself, your friends, or
your club, go to “youth.unicefusa.org/trickortreat”.

Be the change you want to see in the world.. for just $1. 80What do you buy with $1.80? Fast food?
Candy bars? Gas station coffee?
For the same $1.80, you could buy a series of
tetanus vaccines that would protect a mother and her future children from a
horrible death at the hands of maternal/neonatal tetanus (MNT).
Kiwanis International and UNICEF have once again joined forces as they did in the 1990’s
to tackle iodine deficiency disorders, a worldwide public health success. This time
they stride to ELIMINATE maternal/neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease steals the lives of
nearly 60,000 innocent babies each year. The effects of the disease are excruciating
— tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light
and touch. Their family is helpless, unable to offer any comfort to the child as within the
first week of its life it painfully dies.
To eliminate MNT from the Earth, more than
100 million mothers and their future babies
must be immunized. This requires vaccines,
syringes, safe storage, transportation, thousands of skilled staff and more. It will
take $110,000,000— and the dedicated work of UNICEF and every member of the Kiwanis
family. The project will reach the poorest, most neglected mothers and babies with
additional lifesaving health care. The end of this one disease means the beginning of
better health for so many families.
“As of July 17, 2012, The Eliminate Project,
Kiwanis’s global campaign for children, in partnership with UNICEF, has raised US
$14,884,442.32 million in cash and pledges ($64.17 per member average)”, but that is
only barely a 7th of the $110,000,000 goal. Eliminating MNT is a huge goal, even for a
proven group such as Kiwanis, but if $1.80 is all it takes to make a difference to a family
somewhere in our great big world, we can all contribute to the change.

Three things that help make eliminate great
1. The vaccinations - Just $1.80 for a woman and her future children. They stop the tragedy NOW.
2. The Education - Unicef helps to train healthcare workers, and village doctors on safe birthing practices, this ensures heath in the FUTURE.
3. No Waste - the money you donate goes straight to the cause and will not be used for brochures or any other administrative cost.
worldwide hold official Dance Marathons. At these events, students
and adults alike dance the night away to raise money for their local CMN hospitals. Including a small cover charge for anyone who
wants to take part and selling your own concessions once dancers have entered, you can raise a lot of money for the good of children
—and have a whole lot of fun while you’re at it.
These ideas should help you have a wonderful start to the new school year.
School is starting, oh no!It’s never easy to get back in the swing of the new school year, but with these fun new fall service ideas you will have no shortage of interesting ways to serve your home school and community.
