When the majority of people log onto the internet they will check a specific social networking site.

500 million people have active facebook accounts with more that 30 billion pieces of content (web links, news stories, blog posts, notes, photo albums, etc.) shared each month.

200 million people have twitter with an average of 65 million tweets per day.

With the main focus of todays social networking allowing you keep in touch with old friends, family members or to commercially promote your business there are various ways to update your profile with photographs and opinions that communicate your personality, values and expressions to your peers or target audience.

The problem is that you can portray to be anyone you want which can mislead people, not giving an accurate account of one of your most obviously characteristics, your voice!

Your voice is instantly recognized without people having to see your face if they are familiar with you, a great example of this is David Attenborough who is renowned for voice overs.

At the moment there is a gap in the social networking market for audio “tweets”.

Freedom of speech is heavily emphasized in society today, instead of writing your thoughts sometimes it is more powerful to say them. it would be much easier for the listener to detect emotion, passion, sarcasm, anger or delight threw your voice instead of reading a comment incorrectly.

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a website where you could record a 30 second sample saying anything you want for your followers to hear?

gap in the market

When coming up with a name to represent the website and brand i had to think of words that communicate interaction and social networking to the audience, it had to separate its self from the other competitors as well.

I chose bubble because it represents a inner community that is floating around the internet. when people are intrigued and unaware of what the brand is they can pop the bubble and start creating their own online community to voice there opinion.

In the 1940s german scientists used bubbles on the outside of submarines because they absorbed sound from sonar radar instead of bouncing it back, fooling the allied forces. when you pop the bubbles on the bubble website you will be able to hear the trapped sound within, escapes for people to hear.

It is a friendly word that people can associate with joy(weather you blow bubbles or see them they are always pleasant and make you inquisitive) the connotations behind the word reflect the experience i hope to generate on the website.

why bubble...

Page 4: Bubble

motion graphics / design / productionwhat is bubble...

Bubble is a new social networking site that runs on a similar theme to twitter except the “twits” are audio files instead of writing.

Like twitter limits each user to 140 characters to express there views bubble will limit the audio files to 30 seconds.

The idea is that the user will record a sample up to 30 seconds and post it on their profile. Contacts and followers of that specific user will be able to see and play each audio clip on a continuous updating wall.

The website will directly be linked to smart phones so the user can pick up their phone, log in and record an audio clip, then post it directly to their profile.

The site can be used in many different ways by all sorts of people or businesses to communicate their messages.

It will be adapt for commercial use so if a musician wants to promote there latest track or if you want to record a 30 second vocal cv you can post it to promote your self you can, getting your point across.

Bubble is taking social networking to the next level, in a new direction, where users can express emotion threw the sound of there voice rather than just text which can be perceived and misread in various different ways.

This is new social networking that embraces the user with one of your key senses. Your voice is unique to you and encourages a sense a familiarity rather than just a visual form of communication.

I am going to create a completely new platform of social networking that focus’s on audio samples that can be posted on a wall for your followers to listen to:

Some examples of how this can be used are:

Musicians could promote there latest songs

Podcasters could allow subscribers to listen to a brief overview of there latest podcast

People could express opinions on all sorts of things like (weather, travel, politics, new articles, your babies first words)

The website must be compatible with all smart phones as the market for mobile Facebook is 250 million subscribers. This shows that the mobile social networking market is massive.

The website must be simple to use and be effective at communicating your audio messages in the most efficient way. An example of this is that before you get in the shower you could sync your smart phone to the website and download the latest messages so when you start your commute you could listen to what your followers have to say as a 3G connection on tubes isn’t available yet.

The website must be incredible diverse so that it appeals to a wide demographic

The brand must be clean and appealing, simple and understandable, a “does what it says on the tin approach”.

The branding must have a certain ora about it like google or apple, incredibly cut throat and tenacious businesses that are overlooked because of the user friendly brand.

It also has to be easy to develop and expand, so if the website takes off it can cover more area’s of social networking and potentially apparel such is stickers, t-shirts or other promotional items.

Marketing has to be low cost and simple. Making money on the web is easy todo if you have the right idea, it just needs to catch on.

The point of bubble is to be direct and that clarity must be reflected in the brand so that the users can post their audio clips. This must be identified as a brand value because the concept is direct communication.

Bubble is honest and open. What you see is what you get. We want our audience to get involved, express their feelings and opinions. Freedom of speech is encouraged in todays society and encouraged in our brand.

As content on bubble is stimulating and being continuously updated the brand has to be a stimulating as the website. When you interact with the brand people have to know and start relating to the brand so they know who’s website they are visiting. A diverse brand that can adapt to people’s tastes, refreshing their imagination will keep drawing visitors to the website.

I want to identify the potential gap in the market for current social networking site to show that bubble has a place in the market and is not another social networking site.

Predominately social networking sites are based around text and images/photographs. the majority of users are consumers however the professional industry have tapped into this and have started creating fan pages and base marketing strategies.

The brand positioning grid to the right demonstrates the position of certain social next work site regarding key sectors of the the websites specialize is, for example twitter specializes more in text compared to myspace which specializes in music.

I am demonstrating the position of bubble in the market.

Page 12: Bubble

motion graphics / design / productiondemographic

Bubble is aimed at 18 - 25 year olds who enjoy using social networking sites to let people know what they are up to on a regular basis.

They are young professionals in the design industry ranging from graphics to fashion. These are the people you use other social networking sites, especially twitter on a regular basis whether it be to share links or to “check in” to bars, places or restaurants.

As the website heavily promotes it’s smartphone application the 18-25 year old range is appropriate because this is when people start buying smart phones as they are earning enough money to fund the contracts.

Page 13: Bubble

motion graphics / design / productioncompetitorsWhen looking at the social networking market it is important to recognize the scale of activity that could potentially take place. Each social networking site has its own personally and an area that they specialize in. This draws different target audiences to sign up and start using the website in choice as a platform to interact with there peers.

I have looked at the marketing and compiled what i see to be the top 5 com-petitors. As i mentioned above these 5 companies have there strengths and weaknesses. Analyzing these lets me show the space in between the competi-tors where bubble falls.

Facebook focuses on events and status updates.

Bebo focuses on photos.

LinkedIn focus’s on text and layout to deliver person and professional informa-tion.

Twitter focuses on 140 characters of text allowing you to express your opinion in text format.

MySpace focuses on music, bands can make their own page and upload there songs on embedable players that are featured on their profile.

As the above states there are different areas that the main competitors fall into. Bubble is breaking new ground and is the first form of audio social networking, although bubble has features that the above websites have, being the first of its kind separates it from the competitors.

What bubble has to do now is persuade the communities from the competitor sites to move over to the bubble site and start using it.

21 - 40

18 - 55

It is important to understand the competitors demographic so i can align bubble into a target audience area that makes sense to the brand.

By taking into account the other age ranges i can determine how to approach my own in a similar strategic way.

Page 15: Bubble

motion graphics / design / productionwhat makes us different...

As we are entering the social networking market from a different angle that alone makes bubble stand out from the rest of the websites.

The website will run along the same principles as other social networking sites allowing you to upload pictures and write text comments however the my idea is to make audio recording that can be posted to a constantly updat-ing wall for the people in your contact to listen to.

The site allows your to speak you mind threw you voice instead of text, this enables you to establish a personal connection with your followers instead of just a visual one. This allows people to become more familiar with your real personality instead of just your online presence.

We are the first website that you can upload audio files that are streamed to your friends “wall”

By using mobile technology you will be able to record straight from your phone onto your profile.

You will be able to sync your friends bubbles when you attach your smart-phone to your computer so if you don’t have a wifi connection you can still listen to what people have to say.

logo typeface : eight one regular : extended height

The logo typeface is a font called eight one regular. The reason chose this type face is that the rounded design complements the brand of bubble. spherical, circular, infinite. The type accentuates the brand, is clear and easily read. It is also very different from any other social networking logo.

title typeface : helvetica (bold)

The title type face is helvetica bold. A type that is clearly read, familiar and diverse. The information type face needed to be different from the logo typeface because i didn't feel it was the most efficient font to delivery informa-tion to my audience.

information typeface : helvetica (regular)

Like the title typeface the information typeface has to be clearly read to communicate information. I decided to use helvetica regular so the title typeface and the information typeface are consistent.

motion graphics / design / productionconclusion

When looking back at the brand i think the concept is a good idea and there is definitely a gap in the market for this area. I think i have made some valid points and if the idea was refined it could be a successful website and busi-ness.

I think some strengths of the campaign are the logo and the expanding of the brand written work. i recognize that there are a lot of flaws which could of been analyzed at the tutorials this term however i have been afraid to turn up to them.

On a whole though, looking threw the whole project i am not very happy with it. i feel i just wasn’t motivated enough and a lot of it ended up being rushed. Over the past year i have really let my self down when it comes to branding. I have approached the project with a negative attitude and i feel that this re-flects in the work i have done.

I am disappointed that this project does not reflect my skills as a designer however i am happy it’s done now so i can leave the college and pursue other ambitions.
