This describes the routine maintenance for the hardware items in the BTS3900. The hardwareitems that are routinely maintained refer to the equipment room environment of the NodeB,power supply and grounding system of the NodeB, and main components in the BTS3900.4 Powering On/Off the BTS3900When maintaining the BTS3900, you need to power on or power off the BTS3900. You mustpower on the BTS3900 according to the specific procedure and requirements, and you can poweroff the BTS3900 in a normal situation or in an emergency.5 Replacing Components of the BTS3900This describes how to replace the faulty BTS3900 components. The faulty components must bereplaced in time. The replaceable components in the BTS3900 are the BBU3900 case,BBU3900 board or module, DCDU-01, FAN module, PMU/PSU, SLPU, WRFU, andBTS3900 power subrack.

Selecting Maintenance ItemsSelect suitable maintenance items based on actual requirements of the NodeB. The maintenanceitems are as follows:l Maintaining the equipment room environment of the NodeBl Maintaining power supply and grounding system of the NodeBl Maintaining the main components in the NodeBl Maintaining the antenna system of the NodeB

Arranging Tools and Spare PartsArrange the related maintenance tools and spare parts based on the site information andmaintenance items of the NodeB.The most commonly used tools for site maintenance are as follows:l The frequency test devices, which involve a frequency generator, a spectrum analyzer, and

various connectors and cables.l Power test devices used to test and analyze the output power of the NodeB. A commonly

used power test device, namely, a power meter.

This provides the maintenance items, maintenance intervals, operation instructions, andreference standards of the NodeB equipment room environment.Table 3-1 describes how to maintain the NodeB equipment room environment.

4 Powering On/Off the BTS3900About This Chapter

When maintaining the BTS3900, you need to power on or power off the BTS3900. You mustpower on the BTS3900 according to the specific procedure and requirements, and you can poweroff the BTS3900 in a normal situation or in an emergency.

4.1 Powering On the BTS3900This describes how to power on the BTS3900.4.2 Powering Off the BTS3900This describes how to power off the BTS3900 in a normal situation and in an emergency. Youmust power off the BTS3900 in a normal situation such as moving the equipment or anticipatinga territorial blackout. You must also power off the BTS3900 in an emergency such as a fire,smoke, or water immersion occurs in the equipment room.

Prerequisitel The power switches on the DCDU-01 of the BTS3900 are all set to OFF.l The power supply to the BTS3900 is cut off.l The components to be replaced in the BTS3900 are replaced.

If a standby BBU is configured, set the DC power distribution switch labeled SPARE1 on the DCDU-01panel to ON so that the standby BBU is powered on.

4.2 Powering Off the BTS3900This describes how to power off the BTS3900 in a normal situation and in an emergency. Youmust power off the BTS3900 in a normal situation such as moving the equipment or anticipatinga territorial blackout. Procedurel Power off the BTS3900 in a normal situation.

1. Set the DC power distribution switches labeled RFU0 to RFU5 on the DCDU-01 toOFF.

2. Set the DC power distribution switch labeled BBU on the DCDU-01 to OFF.3. Set the DC power distribution switch labeled FAN on the DCDU-01 to OFF.4. Set the DC power distribution switches labeled SPARE1 and SPARE2 on the

DCDU-01 to OFF.5. Set the main power switch to OFF.

l Power off the BTS3900 in an emergency.

CAUTIONPowering off the BTS3900 in an emergency may damage the equipment or boards. Do notuse this method in any situation other than in an emergency.

5 Replacing Components of the BTS3900About This Chapter

This describes how to replace the faulty BTS3900 components. The faulty components must bereplaced in time. The replaceable components in the BTS3900 are the BBU3900 case,BBU3900 board or module, DCDU-01, FAN module, PMU/PSU, SLPU, WRFU, andBTS3900 power subrack.

5.1 Replacing a BBU3900 CaseThis describes how to replace a BBU3900 case. The BBU3900, which is a core module of theNodeB, processes baseband signals of the entire NodeB system and provides transport interfacesfor communication with other NEs, namely, RNC, RRU, WRFU. Replacing the BBU3900interrupts all the services carried by the NodeB.5.2 Replacing a WMPTThe WMPT is the BBU3900 main control and transmission board, replacing the WMPT disruptsall the services carried by the NodeB.5.3 Replacing a WBBPReplacing a WBBP disrupts all the services carried by the NodeB.5.4 Replacing a UPEUThe UPEU is the power module of the BBU and provides power for the boards in the BBU. TheUPEU supports the -48/+24V V DC input. During the replacement of the UPEU, the BBU ispowered off and the ongoing-services are disrupted.5.5 Replacing a UTRPThe UTRP is the BBU3900 main control and transmission board, replacing the UTRP disruptsall the services carried by the NodeB.5.6 Replacing a UBFAThe UBFA is the fan module in the BBU. The UBFA and the air inlet box in the BBU form aventilation loop, implementing forced heat dissipation for the BBU. During the replacement ofthe UBFA, the heat generated by the BBU cannot be properly ventilated and, with temperatureincrease, an overtemperature alarm is reported. The services, however, are not affected.5.7 Replacing a DCDU-01 Module

It takes about 20 minutes to replace a FAN unit.5.9 Replacing the PMUWhen the PMU is faulty and cannot be repaired in time, you must replace it.5.10 Replacing a PSUWhen a PSU is faulty and cannot be repaired in time, you must replace it.5.11 Replacing a WRFU ModuleThis describes how to replace WRFU. 5.1 Replacing a BBU3900 CaseThis describes how to replace a BBU3900 case. The BBU3900, which is a core module of theNodeB, processes baseband signals of the entire NodeB system and provides transport interfacesfor communication with other NEs, namely, RNC, RRU, WRFU. Replacing the BBU3900interrupts all the services carried by the NodeB.

PrerequisiteThe tools and materials, such as the ESD wrist strap or gloves, cross screwdriver, ESD box orbag, and key to the cabinet door are ready.

ProcedureStep 1 Run ULD CFGFILE on the LMT to upload the NodeB data configuration file to the LMT

maintenance computer.Step 2 Power off the BBU3900 by referring to Powering Off the BBU3900, and turn off the power

switch of the external power supply to the BBU3900.Step 3 Label the BBU3900 cables, disconnect them, and then take insulation measures for the cables.

NOTEDisconnect the BBU3900 cables in the sequence of the power cable, alarm cable, FE cable, E1 cable, CPRIoptical cable, and PGND cable.

Step 4 Use the cross screwdriver to remove the four panel screws.Step 5 Pull the faulty BBU3900 case out of the cabinet.Step 6 Insert a new BBU3900 case into the slot. Then, push the new BBU3900 case until it is in position.Step 7 Tighten the panel screws to secure the new BBU3900 case.Step 8 Connect the cables to the BBU in turn according to the labels.Step 9 Turn on the power switch of the external power supply to the BBU3900. recorded.l Obtain the board operation logs and history alarms prior to the generation of the alarm.l Obtain the board operation log.l The tools and materials, such as an ESD wrist strap or a pair of ESD gloves, Phillips

screwdriver, ESD box or bag, dustfree cloth, and key to the cabinet door are ready.

Contextl The BBU3900 is configured with one active WMPT. Replacing the WMPT disrupts all the

services carried by the NodeB. Therefore, power off the NodeB before replacement.l The BBU3900 is configured with one active WMPT and one standby WMPT. When the

active WMPT is being replaced, an active/standby fail is performed automatically. Afterthe fail is successful, the standby WMPT becomes the active WMPT and takes over theservices, and the new WMPT becomes the standby WMPT. Powering off the NodeB is notrequired during replacement. Replacing the standby WMPT does not disrupt the services.When replacing the board, do not power off the NodeB. You only need to remove the faultyboard, and then insert a new board into the original slot.

CAUTIONThe active/standby fail may result in NodeB resetting or service disruption.

ProcedureStep 1 On the NodeB LMT, run the ULD CFGFILE command to upload the NodeB data configuration

file to the LMT computer.Step 2 Remove the faulty WMPT.

1. Attach temporary labels to the cables on the faulty WBBP, and then disconnect the cables.2. Loosen the screws on the panel of the faulty WBBP.3. Turn the ejector lever outwards, and then pull the faulty WBBP out of the slot.4. Place the faulty WBBP in an ESD bag.

Step 3 Install a new WBBP.1. Insert a new WBBP into the slot, and then slide the board until it is in position.2. Turn the ejector levers inwards, and then tighten the screws on the panel of the new WBBP.3. Connect the cables to the ports on the panel of the new WBBP according to the recorded

Prerequisitel The number and types of faulty UPEUs are obtained, and new UPEUs are available.l The status of the LEDs on the faulty UPEU and cable connections on the panel are recorded.l The state of the switch on the power board is confirmed.l The required tools and materials such as an ESD wrist strap/ESD gloves and an ESD box/

ESD bag are kept ready.

ContextIt takes about 10 minutes to replace the board. The duration of the replacement involves theremoval of the cables and the faulty UPEU, the installation of the new UPEU and the cables,and the time elapsed for the operation of the UPEU.

During the replacement ofthe UBFA, the heat generated by the BBU cannot be properly ventilated and, with temperatureincrease, an overtemperature alarm is reported. The services, however, are not affected.

Prerequisitel The quantity of faulty UBFAs is checked, and new modules are ready.

a Phillips screwdriver, an ESD box or bag, dustfree cloth, the key to the cabinet door, andthe standard handle.

CAUTIONl Take proper ESD prevention measures, for example, wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves

to prevent the boards, modules, and electronic components from being damaged by the staticelectricity generated by the human body.

l Hold the RFU module with care as it is heavy.

ProcedureStep 1 Locate the faulty RFU and then run the BLK BRD command on the LMT to disable the faulty

WRFU.NOTE

This step can be performed either locally or remotely. Remote maintenance is suggested, though.

Step 2 Set the RFU switch on the DCDU-01 that corresponds to the RFU to OFF. The position of theRFU is shown in Figure 5-13.

Step 3 Label the cables connected to the RFU panel, and then disconnect the cables.Step 4 Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the four captive screws on the RFU panel.Step 5 Insert the standard handle into the RFU to the corresponding keyhole on the RFU panel, and

turn the handle key by 90. Pull out the module by holding the handle key using one hand, andthen remove the RFU using the other hand, as shown in Figure 5-14.

Step 6 Slide the new RFU along its guide rail until the module is in position (with obvious resistance).

5.12 Replacing the Power Supply Subrack of the BTS3900The power supply subrack is located in the lower cabinet of the BTS3900. It can be installedwith the PSU and PMU to provide the power input and output ports. It takes about 25 minutesto replace the power supply subrack.

Prerequisitel Confirm the model of the faulty power supply subrack and have the new power supply

subrack of the same type ready.l The required tools and materials, such as ESD wrist strap, Phillips screwdriver, ESD box

or bag, and the key to the cabinet door, are available.

CAUTIONTake proper ESD prevention measures, for example, wear an ESD wrist strap or gloves to preventthe boards, modules, and electronic components from being damaged by the static electricitygenerated by human body.

ProcedureStep 1 Power off the BTS3900.Step 2 Mark the cables on the power supply subrack and the PMU, and then disconnect them.Step 3 Loosen the two screws on the panel of the PMU/PSU in the power supply subrack, as shown in

Figure 5-15.

NOTE

Figure 5-15 shows the PMU, because the position of the two screws on the PSU panel is the same as thaton the PMU panel.

Step 4 Pull out the PMU or PSU along the guide rails by holding the ejector lever on the PMU/PSU

panel, as shown in Figure 5-15.Step 5 Repeat Step 3 through Step 4 to remove all the PMUs/PSUs from the power supply subrack,

and then put them into the ESD box.Step 6 Remove the four M6x12 strews on the two mounting ears of the power supply subrack, as shown

in Figure 5-16.

Step 7 Pull out the power supply subrack with one hand, hold the power supply subrack with the other

hand, and then remove it.Step 8 Put the faulty power supply subrack into an ESD box.Step 9 Reversely perform the previous steps to install the new power supply subrack and removed

PMUs/PSUs into the cabinet.Step 10 Connect the removed cables to the ports on the panel of the power supply subrack and on that

of the PMU according to the marks.Step 11 Power on the BTS3900.

PostrequisiteAfter replacing the power supply subrack, perform the following operations:l Check the cables and ensure that they are correctly and tightly connected.l Ensure that the related alarms are cleared after the equipment is powered on.l Contact the local Huawei office to handle the faulty power supply subrack.
