Safety information
General
Only use the power supply includedwith the product. Using an unauthorisedpower supply will invalidate yourguarantee and may damage the telephone.
For the handset use only AAA NickelMetal Hydride (NiMH) rechargeablebatteries with a minimum capacity of550 mAh. Never use other batteries orconventional alkaline batteries as thiscould lead to a short circuit or destroythe battery casing.
If the keyguard is switched on, it isNOT possible to make calls, includingemergency numbers (999/112).
Do not open the base or handset (otherthan to change batteries). This couldexpose you to high voltages or other risks.
Radio signals transmitted between thehandset and base may cause interferenceto hearing aids.
It is recommended that advice from aqualified expert be sought before usingthis product in the vicinity of emergency/intensive care medical equipment.
It is recommended that if you have apacemaker fitted you check with amedical expert before using this product.
Never dispose of batteries in a fire. There is a serious risk of explosion and/orthe release of highly toxic chemicals.
Cleaning
Simply clean the handset and base station with a damp (not wet) cloth, or an anti-static wipe. Never use householdpolish as this will damage the product.Never use a dry cloth as this may cause a static shock.
Environmental
Do not expose to direct sunlight.
The handset may become warm when the batteries are being recharged. This isnormal. We recommend that you do notplace the product on antique/veneeredwood to avoid damage.
Do not stand your product on carpets or other surfaces which generate fibres,or place it in locations preventing the free flow of air over its surfaces.
Do not submerge any part of your product in water and do not use it in damp or humid conditions, such asbathrooms.
Do not expose your product to fire,explosive or other hazardous conditions.
There is a slight chance that your phonecould be damaged by an electrical storm.We recommend that you unplug the power and telephone line cord during anelectrical storm.

Setting upPlan the location
Situate your product close enoughto the telephone and mains powersockets so that the cables will reach.
Make sure that it is at least 1metre away from other electricalproducts to avoid interference.
Do not situate the product in thebathroom or other humid areas.
1 Connect the base
Plug the power supply cable intothe power socket on the undersideof the base. The correct socket forthe power supply cable is clearlylabelled as such.
The Power/In use light will be litwhen power has been connectedcorrectly.
(N.B. On the Verve 3000 additionalhandset the power supply unitconnector is red.)
2 Plug the power supplyunit into the wall socket
3 Insert the batteries
Insert the three AAA rechargeablebatteries supplied, as indicatedinside the battery compartmentand slide the battery compartmentcover shut.

4 Connect the telephoneline cord to the baseand plug into the wallsocket
Ensure that each end of the linecord is fitted into the correctsocket.

Battery low warning
If the battery icon and the wordsLOW BATTERY appear on thedisplay you will need to rechargeyour handset before you can use it.
Battery performance
Under no circumstances should non-rechargeable batteries be used.Only use NiMH rechargeablebatteries with a minimum capacityof 550 mAh. Using inappropriatebatteries will invalidate yourguarantee and may damage thetelephone.

Leave the handset in the basestation for approximately 16 hoursto fully charge the batteries asthey will not be charged on receipt.

5 Attach the belt clip(optional)
Fit the belt clip onto the back ofthe handset if required.
Position belt clip on back ofhandset, guide and push into theslot provided and twist clockwiseuntil belt clip is secure.

Using the telephone
Note
To exit a menu at any time pressthe Back options button, this willtake you back one step. Press theRED PHONE button to cancel theoperation completely.
Making and ending calls
To make an external call
Press the GREEN PHONEbutton. You will hear thedial tone and the displaywill show the iconand EXT CALL.
Dial the number.
The Power/In use light onthe base will flash to showthat you are currently ona call.
Preparatory dialling
Enter the phone numberfirst.
If you make a mistakepress the Clear optionsbutton to erase the lastdigit.

Handsfree
Handsfree allows you to talk toyour caller without holding thehandset and enables other peoplein the room to listen to theconversation. Your hands are leftfree, for example to take notes.

Place the foam cushionover the earpiece of theheadset to aid comfortwhen placed in the ear.
The earpiece needs to beinserted gently in the earso that it feels secure.
A clip is supplied on theheadset so that you canclip the headset cord onto your clothing.
To adjust the headsetvolume follow the sameinstructions as, “To adjustthe in call volume” onpage 13.
Using the Directory
You can store up to 100 names andnumbers in the telephone directory.You can enter up to 22 digits andup to 12 characters.
There are three ways to enter thedirectory. By pressing the Dirbutton, by pressing the DOWNnavigation button or by pressingthe Menu button followed by theOK options button.
The following instructions use theDir button but the procedures foraccessing and using the directoryare similar using any of the threeoptions.
To store an entry in thedirectory
Press the Dir optionsbutton.
Press the Option button.
NEW ENTRY is displayed.
Press the OK optionsbutton.
ENTER NAME is displayed.
Entering names:
Enter the name using theletters on the keypad. For example, to enter thename TOM:

If you have multiple handsetsregistered to the base you can alerthandset users that they are wanted,or use this function to locate amissing handset.

Press the PAGE button onthe base and all handsetsregistered to the base willring.

To transfer an external callbetween handsets
You can forward anexternal call to anotherhandset registered to thebase.
During an external call:
Press the Int button.
If there are only twohandsets registered to thebase the call will be madeautomatically to the other handset. If there aremore than two handsetsregistered you will have tospecify which handsetnumber you wish toforward the external call to(see internal calls section).
At this point yourexternal caller is put onhold and they will hearmusical tones, you cantoggle between yourexternal caller and theinternal handset bypressing the Int button.
When the called internalhandset answers you caneither speak to them orput the call throughstraight away by pressingthe RED PHONE button.Your external caller willbe connected to the otherhandset.

3-way calling
You are able to hold a three wayconversation between an externalcaller and two internal callers.
To make a 3-way call
When on an external callthe user has to call theother internal handsetwith an intercom call.This is done as describedin, ‘To transfer an externalcall between handsets’,opposite.
To enable the three waycalling:
Press the Menu optionsbutton.
Press the DOWNnavigation button until 3 WAY CALL is displayed.
Press the Join optionsbutton.
You can now have a threeway conversation betweenyour external caller andthe other internal handset.

Caller Display
IMPORTANT
To use Caller Display you mustfirst subscribe to the service fromyour Network Provider. A quarterlyfee is payable. For more details on BT’s Select Services call BT free on 0800 800 150.
Note
The icon will flash on thehandset display if new calls havebeen received since you last viewedthe calls list. The icon will besolid if no new calls have beenreceived since last viewing the callslist but there are still some unseencalls in the list.
If you subscribe to a Caller Displayservice you can see who is callingyou on your handset display, aswell as the date and time of theircall (unless the number has beenwithheld, is unavailable or is aninternational call).
If you have stored a name to gowith the number in your handsetdirectory, the name will bedisplayed instead.
Please ensure that you havestored the full telephone number,including the area code, otherwisethe name will not match thenumber stored in the directory.
Calls list
The Calls list contains the telephonenumbers of your last 50 callers.
Whether you take a call or not,the caller’s details are stored in theCalls list. You can display, scrollthrough, dial and copy numbersin the list.
If a call is received when the Calls list is full then the oldest entrywill be deleted automatically.
To view the Calls list
When you have new calls,the icon will flash.

How many telephones can you haveon the line?
All items of equipment have aRinger Equivalence Number(REN) which is used to calculatethe number of items that may beconnected to any one telephoneline.
The BT Verve 3010 Executive hasa total REN of 1.
Any other instrument provided byBT may be assumed to have aREN of 1 unless stated otherwise.
A total REN of 4 is allowed pertelephone line. (For example: ifthe BT Verve 3010 Executive isused in conjunction with threeextension telephones, each with aREN of 1, then the total REN = 4).

If wall mounting your BT Verve3010 Executive, use this guide forposition.
Remove plinth from the Vervebase by gently lifting the two clipsand sliding upwards.
• Make sure that you are notdrilling into any hidden wiringand check that the power cablewill reach from the mains socketto the base. Switch the poweradaptor off at the mains andremove the adaptor plug fromits socket.
• Drill two holes 35 mm deepusing a 5 mm drill, 72 mm apartto take the wall plugs.
• Put wall plugs into the drill holesand then insert both screws.Leave 2-3mm between the headof the screw and the wall. Youare now able to mount the baseto the wall.
• Fit the base onto the two screws.If necessary, tighten or loosenthe screws for the best fit.
• Put the handset back in the base and switch the power back on atthe wall socket.
