Why new product?

What is the BSC3i-model?

Why the name BSC3i?

Market requirement for more compact BSC with higher CS and PS capacity was clearly seen.

The Nokia DX 200 High Capacity Base Station Controller named BSC3i is a new variant of BSC. It is based on so called more modern DX200 M98 mechanics (Compact PCI bus technology), already in use in MSCi and 2G SGSN products.

The letter "i" means improved (as in MSCi) and 3 means, that this is third generation BSC product.

3 likes in 3G as this product provides even more packet handling capacity than earlier ones and suits well to EDGE

and GERAN.

Optimum Use of Available Radio Channels

Capacity for both Circuit and Packet Switched Traffic

With two PCU-B/BCSU configuration up to 76% of the traffic can be PS when calculated as follows:

CS traffic per BSC3i BCSU unit

13kbit/s CS traffic in one time slot * 7.5 tch * 110 TRX / 1024 = 10.4736 Mbit/s

PS traffic per BSC3i BCSU unit

Two PCU-B/BCSU 2*4Mbit/s

PS traffic / CS traffic = PS Share

--> 8Mbit/s (PS) / 10.4736 Mbit/s (CS) = 76%
