The British Safety Council has proven its self as one of the world’s leading health and safetyorganisations.

Since its inception in 1957, BSC has been a trusted guide to excellent health, safety and environmental management. BSC has educated millions of workers and made hundreds of thousands of workplaces safer for everyone by sharing information, supporting, advising, educating and campaigning. BSC is known as a not-for-pro�t organisation.

BSC is a government-regulated awardingorganisation and, as such, must comply with a wide range of conditions set by the regulator so that rigour and consistency in the awarding of quali�cations is maintained.

The BSC is the only UK awarding organisation to o�er a complete suite of health and safetyquali�cations from Entry Level to Level 6 in the Quali�cations and Credit Framework.

Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace

Good health and safety standards rely on employers and employees working together to reduce risks and prevent accidents and ill-health arising from work activities. With this in mind, this quali�cation has been carefully developed by British Safety Council to provide employees with a basic knowledge andunderstanding of health and safety in the workplace, including the duties of employers and employees under UK health and safety legislation.

Overview

• The importance of health and safety.• Key terms used in health and safety.• Legal responsibilities of employers and employees.• Hazards and risks in the workplace.• Keeping the workplace safe.• Health and safety signs.• Personal protective equipment.• Personal hygiene.• Welfare facilities and �rst aid.• Reporting accidents and ill-health.

Topics

The course concludes with am u l t i p l e - c h o i ce e x a m i n a t i o nconsisting of twenty questions (30 minutes). Trainees who score higher than 13 and above out of 20 will be awarded a certi�cate of completion from British Safety Council.

Level 2 Award in Principles of Fire Safety

Every year, many lives and properties are lost by �re on buildings, industries, and homes. Human error is by far the most common cause of �res and it is often a single careless act that endangers the lives of others. This course is designed as an introduction to �re safety for all employees so as to ensure they are familiar with �re risks and the controls available as well as the action to be taken in the event of a �re in their workplace.

Overview

• How �res are caused.• How �res spread.• Detection, alarm and means of escape• Fire-�ghting equipment.• Duties of employers and employees.• Fire risk assessments.• The role of the �re warden.• Fire safety inspections.• Fire safety brie�ngs.

Topics

The course concludes with a multi-ple-choice examination consisting of thirty questions (45 minutes). Trainees who score higher than 20 and above out of 30 will be awarded a certi�cate of completion from British Safety Council.

Level 2 Award in Fire Risk Assessment

The health and safety law places a legal duty on employers to ensure thatemployees and others are kept safe from potential risks like �re in the workplace. A suitable and su�cient �re risk assessment will help to ascertain the chances of a �re occurring and the potential dangers involved. This course provides trainees with knowledge and understanding of the �re risk assessment process and the skills required to undertake it e�ectively.

This practically-oriented training course provides trainees with an opportunity to look more deeply into general health and safety from a supervisory perspective, and successful trainees will be able to help their organisation whatever the size or activity in improving the health and safety culture.

Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work

First Aid course is designed to cover medical techniques considered to be within the responsibility of the occupational �rst aid attendance providing emergency care in industry.

• Responsibilities of the �rst aider• Assessing an incident• Managing an unresponsive casualty• The respiratory system• Wounds and bleeding• Shock• Seizures• Dealing with minor injuries• Other injuries

Topics

Assessment is through a combination of practical demonstration ofcompetence in emergency �rst aid procedures and a test of underpinning knowledge through questioning and/or professional discussion. Trainees’ results are reported as a grade (Pass or Fail)for the quali�cation as a whole. A certi�cate of completion is awarded to trainees from British Safety Council.
