-Introduction:

Cargo or freight is goods or produce transported, generally for commercial gain, by ship,

aircraft, train, van or truck. In modern times, containers are used in most intermodal long-haul

cargo transport.

-Marine Cargo Types:

There is a wide range of marine cargoes at seaport terminals operated. The primary types are

these:

Automobiles are handled at many ports, usually carried on specialist roll-on/roll-off

ships.

Break bulk cargo is typically material stacked on wooden pallets and lifted into and out

of the hold of a vessel by cranes on the dock or aboard the ship itself. The volume of

break bulk cargo has declined dramatically worldwide as containerization has grown. A

safe and secure way to secure Break bulk and freight in containers is by using Dunnage

Bags.

Bulk Cargoes, such as salt, oil, tallow, and Scrap metal, are usually defined as

commodities that are neither on pallets nor in containers, and which are not handled as

individual pieces, the way heavy-lift and project cargoes are. Alumina, grain, gypsum,

logs and wood chips, for instance, are bulk cargoes.

Containers are the largest and fastest growing cargo category at most ports worldwide.

Containerized cargo includes everything from auto parts and machinery components to

shoes, toys, and frozen meat and seafood.

Project cargo and heavy lift cargo may include items such as manufacturing equipment,

factory components, power equipment such as generators and wind turbines, military

equipment or almost any other over sized or overweight cargo too big or too heavy to fit

into a container.

-Air Cargo:

Air cargo is commonly known as air freight. There are many firms which collect freight

from a shipper and deliver it to the customer such as Night freight or UPS. Aircraft were first

used for carrying mail as cargo in 1911, but eventually manufacturers started designing aircraft

for freight as well. There are many commercial aircraft suitable for carrying cargo such as the

Boeing 747 and the bigger An-124, which were purpose built to be easily converted to a cargo

aircraft. Such very large aircraft also employ quick loading containers known as ULDs much like

container cargo ships. It is located in front mismo of the aircraft the triangular shaped in front.

Most nations own and utilize large numbers of cargo aircraft such as the C-17 Globe master III,

for airlift logistics needs of such operations.

-Freight train:

Trains are capable of transporting large numbers of containers which have come off the

shipping ports. Trains are also used for the transportation of steel, wood and coal. Trains are used

as they can pull a large amount and generally have a direct route to the destination. Under the

right circumstances, freight transport by rail is more economic and energy efficient than by road,

especially when carried in bulk or over long distances. The main disadvantage of rail freight is

its lack of flexibility. For this reason, rail has lost much of the freight business to road transport.

Page 5: BSA

Business Systems Analysis, Design and Construction

5

2010

Rail freight is often subject to transshipment costs since it must be transferred from one

mode to another in the chain; these costs may dominate and practices such as containerization

aim at minimizing these. Many governments are now trying to encourage more freight onto

trains, because of the environmental benefits that it would bring; rail transport is very energy

efficient.

-Van or Truck Cargo:

There are many firms which transport all types of cargo, ranging from letters to houses to

cargo containers. These firms like Parcel force or FedEx which deliver fast and sometimes same

day delivery services. A good example of road cargo is supermarket stock, as these require

deliveries every day to keep the shelves stacked with goods for sale. Retailers of all kinds rely

upon delivery trucks, be they full size semi trucks or smaller delivery vans.

Page 6: BSA

2010

Freight is a term used to classify the transportation of cargo and is typically a commercial

process. Items are usually organized into various shipment categories before they are transported.

This is dependent on several factors:

The type of item being carried, like a kettle could fit into the category household goods.

How large the shipment is, both in terms of item size and quantity.

How long the item for delivery will be in transit.

-Ship Cargo:

A cargo ship or freighter is any sort of ship or vessel that carries cargo, goods, and

materials from one port to another. Thousands of cargo carriers ply the world's seas and oceans

each year; they handle the bulk of international trade. Cargo ships are usually specially designed

for the task, often being equipped with cranes and other mechanisms to load and unload, and

come in all sizes. Today, they are almost always built of welded steel, and with some exceptions

generally have a life expectancy of 25 to 30 years before being scrapped.

Now days every corporation must have structure to controlled their jobs or activities,

Sameday Company like any company they need to controlled their activities in order to improve

the delivery to the client. Sameday Freight Ltd is a medium sized freight company that

specializes in urgent deliveries. It will collect a consignment anywhere, at any time and deliver it

to any destination by the fastest method available. However, the typical consignment is a small

load (say up to 200 kilos) collected and delivered, using a small lorry, within Kuala Lumpur. The

Someday call centre and control room is based in Bukit Jalil, from here a team of operators can

call on a fleet of over 200 vehicles and drivers. All the vehicles are owned by or on long term

contract hire to Someday. Drivers are employed directly by Someday and work exclusively for

them. The vehicles and drivers are strategically placed around Kuala Lumpur ready to respond to

customer demands for the service. The service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.

Someday freight has many problems in their systems which are needed to be solved. According

to these problems we are delegated by this company to make feasibility study from all direction

technical, economic and technological and provide the solutions and the recommendations in

complementary report.

In the past they don’t have ways to improve the delivery company like these days. Now

there is technology to help the companies to improve their system such as computer and

technology methods. Due to the rivalry between the companies each company has been

attempted to acquire a good reputation through improving its own system to assist the dealing

with client and makes them organized. Also those technologies need to upgrade them at less once

a year because in the technology filed the development are becoming like every month during

the whole year.

Page 8: BSA

-Identify the problems:

In sameday company has one PC in each section; also they don’t have net working

between the departments.

They used mobile to connect with drivers.

The call centre maintains a database of trading customer and the account department

maintains another database for invoice production.

In sameday’s the control room has a very large board on this board they display all

vehicles and record.

-Objective:

Develop the system by using online system.

Attract more customers by making more promotions.

Make improvement in the system to do a lot of jobs by using technology

method.

Make it easy to the client during sending their cargo to any place by bringing expert

people know how to deal with them simply.

-The solutions:

Smaller amount of computers in each department are making difficulties to the worker

because sometimes tow employees want to fill up the data in the same time so they cannot use

one PC for two employees. In addition the job will be slow and the customer feel bored from

waiting for the earliest one to finish. But there is a solution for this problem. The company must

install a computer to each employee to let the employee feel comfortable with what he/she is

doing? These days the computer saving time and do many faster works.

Page 9: BSA

Business Systems Analysis, Design and Construction

9

2010

They must be using mobile to connect with their drivers. This way cost the company a lot

of money to communicate with their drivers. In addition sometimes the mobile’s coverage is low

which means the company cannot make any communicate with driver to update the information

which has been given to the driver or known where the location is. This problem has been

solved in my new system. By using walky-talky device the communication issue will be solved.

Moreover the company will save a lot of money. And the communication will be any time of the

day and no problem of coverage.

In the call centre and financial department, all we need is to make communicate between

the call centre and financial department by install one main database to the both of them in this

case both of them will refer to one database which earnings time. By using separate database the

customer need to fill up information and most of the time will be same like writing his/her details

so the company will save time by using one main database and this would be better.

The solving of this situation is to create online system. All the employees must check

every day that system or log in. By online check up to every employee that has password and

user name, when the employee key in his password and user name, the online system show

him/her the timetable for the day. No need to check the board and some time there is changes

happen so just upload it in the online system and the employ will check it.

-Feasibility study:

Feasibility study is needed in any business field. It is expected that only one in fifty

business ideas are actually commercially practical. Therefore in business feasibility study is an

effective way to protect against depletion of further investment or income if the project is seen to

be feasible from the results of the study the next valid step is to proceed with the full business

plan. The study and information uncovered the feasibility study and will support the business

planning stage and reduce the research. Moreover determine whether the project has the chance

to be successful.

Page 10: BSA

-The Technical Feasibility:

This point explains if the company has the technology resources to develop its system.

This involves questions such as whether the technology needed for the system exists, how

difficult it will be to build, and whether the company has enough experience using that

technology. The assessment is based on an outline design of system requirements in terms of

Input, Processes, Output, Fields, Programs, and Procedures.

So in this point the company should focus on the hardware and the software systems, by

choosing the most practical systems for it. Also the company should concentrate on the

communication, inside and outside the company, and this can be qualified in terms of volumes of

data, trends, frequency of updating, and other areas in order to give an introduction to the

technical system.

-The Hardware tools:

Communication:

Server: server is engine that connects several computers together, under the network. This

engine allows the company to save all the data within the server and all PCs if they want any

data or information they can get it from the server. Always companies should be updating then

from sever all employees get in and take the update.

Walky-talky:

Walky-talky is saving communication. It is a kind of personal to way radio, generally hand-held

dissimilar cell phone, operate separately.

Page 11: BSA

11

2010

One user can speak at once to all other users within rang by only push down the “talk” button.

With this kind of method the company can save a lot of expense from the money-box of the

financial department.

-Computer:

The company should use the most practical PCs for work. The specifications of the PCs

must be one the latest specifications in the market of the computers, which can help the works to

complete their work on the needed time and help them to store as much they can store from data.

This example for the needed PCs:

2 PC for operators.

4 for worker on office.

2 for the control room for sending details of delivery destination, and 2 PC to fill the details of

the client by himself to save time and take more customers if there is by the worker office

employees.

Page 12: BSA

Business Systems Analysis, Design and Construction

12

2010

-Telephone:

We the operator office we need a line for phone connection to keep in touch inside the

company building and to be able to call within local district, and the phone must be in good

shape according to the décor of the office and color too. Made by good material for long time

use.

Digital System

-Non-blocking interoom

ISDN Support

-Max 24 BRI / 48 channels

Scalability

-From 3 lines 8 extension to 27 lines 72 extension

Fully Hybrid

-Versatiles ports to connect any analogue terminals(e.g. facsimilies, SLTs,

keyphones, etc)

Up to 2000 speed dial list

Caller ID ( Built-in )

Affordable

-Printers:

In the company there must be a printer to perform the printing while working in perfect

shape without stop and getting error functional during the work. And must be fast with ability of

printing from each section, because it will cost the company more fund to buy more than 2

printers. (Black, Color).

-The software tool:

Sameday Company like any company require software tool for their PC’s. The software

tools are a program that defines the instruction that is execute by hardware. These are some of

the appropriate software for the company system.

-Windows 7:

Is the latest windows published by Microsoft Company and contain the latest update from

every angle with the applications, commands and interface. The best thing with windows 7 is the

enjoyable and more flexible to the users and easy to navigate, titles are very clear for the users

and this allow the user to be more comfort through his/her work. No needs to define the entire

new device are connect for the first time to the pc.

-Microsoft office:

Microsoft office 2007 is the best way or function for the work. It is includes some

ensemble of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and outlook all along with a variety of internet

and other utilities. The applications common function such as predict the correct speelling and

graphics, and matter can be dragged and dive between applications. It is the leading application

suite in the sales. Sameday Company desire to get this program. It will help the company to

accumulate time and make the job uncomplicated for the workers.

Page 14: BSA

14

2010

-Antivirus:

The company computers must be protected by antivirus program. Deficient antivirus

might be attacked by strangers on the company system. The antivirus ensures that Pc is

protecting by the dangerous viruses. It is very essential to make sure that we have the latest touch

on our PC. And that won’t cost more money if we are comparing with the security of the

company. As new coercion emerge, antivirus right away builds new Virus clarity updates and

makes them accessible for download. The recommended antivirus is KASPERSKY 2010.

Operational feasibility:

It is dependent upon the human resources available for project. It also concerns I self

with whether or not the system will operate and work once it is implemented. Do the current

work practices and procedures support a new system? Also how the organizational changes will

affect the working lives of those affected by the company system.

Page 15: BSA

15

2010

-Performance:

In the previous system it was very hard to communicate with other employees. since they

were not having any kind of connection inside the company. This affair was effected the

occupation. Several customer attempts to demand but by the older system and the order were

very slow and tiring. However now by using the new system the contact inside the company is

faster than in the old days. All PCs linked together so it helps to convey the data and information

between the departments with just one clack. Furthermore they have server to keep all

information and storage. Through that server they would be able to upload and download files.

The other affair at this point is the communication with outside groups specially the drivers. In

the previous system they used mobile phone to be in touch with drivers to update them with

latest details or to inform where is the location? By using Walky-talky device the center will be

switching the calls to everyone no matter where is he (driver) in every single moment, later by

using this technology that we explained it before of course the company will have a good contact

inside and outside.

-Information:

Client details were taken several time in other acting every department has different

customer’s database. Which build difficulties with the employee that he is takes the information.

The client must fill up a form more than one time in every department. Since fixing the new

system the database that was taken turn out to be one database which mean every customer

requires to fill up one the form not twice. So in this affair we gave the conveniently to the

employee in the work. On top of that there is a website that allows the employee to login, since

any one in the company can make sure of his/her schedule at home earlier than going to work. In

addition they remain updating their information through the same webpage.

Page 16: BSA

16

2010

-Economic:

Earlier the business was losing a lot of money by using ineffective plans like connecting

with driver through mobile or using handbook database by writing the client details in

documents. All that operating makes the business suffer from the monetary troubles. The new

structure comes to save the business from monetary problems. It is assort the funds of the

company. All the earlier monetary problems were resolved because of using innovative

equipments.

-Control:

In the previous structure dominant the work was a difficult steps for the employees

requirements (observer and cratch), and might be the data wasn’t in safe position. However in

the present method it offers the requirements employees feeling relieve in their work field, since

the new structure is very ordered and organized it can be precise and also offer high class of

protection by making an input code for all database of every client.

-Efficiency:

In the old days the main equipment were small comparing to the company such as

computers and the other electronic device, it were charging the company a big amount of funds

and time too. Moreover it makes the limit of the worker much harder to do better job and achieve

the best in field, and it will be gutty to the business to loss big amount of cash. Currently the new

structure will be working efficiency to be reverse back to appear in better shape with the practice

of the workers to the new job. It will become more easier than before, perhaps the company

commit won’t hire more employees in future, because the technology offered to one person to be

able to do more than one task in same time in a bit time.

Page 17: BSA

Business Systems Analysis, Design and Construction

17

2010

-Services:

Going back in the previous structure the utility were poor and slow that make the client

run away from the company, however now after applying the new system the business can work

perfectly and offering a huge benefits for clients to make their order easy and fast.

-Economic Feasibility:

Economic feasibility analysis is the large repeatedly used for processes that evaluate the

value of the nominee structure. Further frequently known as price/profit investigation. The

method is to decide the payback and reducing the usual from the nominee structure and compare

them among expenses. If payback prevails over expenses, then the conclusion is made to devise

and execute the system.

-Schedule feasibility:

It is a plan that will be little if it takes long period to be done before being practical.

Usually this means conjecture how long scheme will take to expand and if could be done in the

given instant period via some methods like repay period. In Sameday Company the system will

be within one month to be shaped. All the demand would take time to be set. Furthermore the

workers need to go all the way through simple training to be ready for the new approach. When

the approach has been stabilizer, we will be taking place to look to the funds of the company to

find that the company coffer embark to get back earnings on the sixth year.

-Recommendation:

This new structure is much better for 8 years forward. My advice in this method is to tail

new sections or branch to be all over Malaysia district. Moreover we have to give a course for

the employees if there is a new technology or development with the system work.

-Conclusion:

To conclude the operation Sameday company planed will be need a system that take care

of each specific tiny thing in the company to be working as the BEE working (hard, punctual,

with duty). To organize the hob very well without any mistake that could loss the company

fissure of money. And to deliver the package or cargo to the destination with exact time and be

responsible toward the clients with they are the main customers which that company holds on

them.
