B341 PTO Winch

The winch on B341is very different from the electric winches on B342. This winch is driven by a PTO off the transfer case behind the transmission. The PTO shaft drives the winch mounted on the front bumper.

PTO Winch Facts

• The B341 winch is rated at 12,000 lbs. (6 tons) and has 100 ft of cable.

• Remember to leave at least ½ of the drum wrapped on the bottom layer to ensure the cable stays attached to the drum.

• Also remember that the driver must stay in the cab to operate the winch. The OIC or aid must watch the winching operation and signal the driver as required.

PTO Winch Controls • Place transmission in neutral • Place transfer case in neutral (see next slide)• Make sure 4-wheel drive indicator light (located just below

the dash; see photo below) is not lit. If light is on, the front axle is engaged and the transfer is NOT in neutral

Engaging the PTO

• Check to make sure the transfer case is in neutral by putting the transmission in 2nd gear and then slowly letting out the clutch.

• If the truck tries to move forward and the engine begins to stall, then the transfer is still in gear and is not in neutral.

• Repeat the steps to put the transfer in neutral. The transfer must be in neutral to operate the winch.

• Once the transfer is in neutral, engage the PTO by flipping down the guard and pushing down hard on the PTO handle (red knob). Make sure the knob goes all the way down to ensure the PTO is fully in gear.

Cable/Winch Ops

• The winch engagement level is located on the left side (facing the winch). In the “IN” position (lever inclined to the left), the winch is in gear (engaged).

• In the “OUT” position (lever inclined to the right), the winch is out of gear and can be free wheeled to pull out the winch cable.

• The winch will likely have to be turned slightly to use the engagement lever to take the winch out of gear or to put it back in gear.

Winch Cable Attachment

DO NOT attach the winch cable by wrapping the cable around an object.

Always use a chain to attach the winch cable. The winch cable hook should be hooked to the attachment chain.

Operating the Winch

• To operate the winch, the driver puts the transmission in a forward gear. 1st or 2nd gear is normally used.

• 3rd gear or higher brings to winch cable in too fast for normal operation.

• Putting the transmission in reverse gear will power the winch cable out slowly.

– 8 ft. chain (w/hooks)

– 6 ft. attachment chains (2)

– Tow strap

– Snatch blocks (2)

– Assorted clevises and hooks
