History in Brunei

• In the 6th century Brunei was trading with China in became a Hindu country.

• When the Majapahit Kingdom empire fell Brunei became independent.

• From the 16th to 19th century it was really powerful. In 1841 they lost Sarawak it became a British Protectorate then a British Dependency.

• During World War II Japan occupied Brunei. After that it was liberated by Australia in 1985.

• The official language in Brunei in Malay• English is spoken and understood there,• Chinese is also spoken there with some

indigenous languages. Example… Iban, Murut.• Malay is an easy language to learn. • The grammar in simple and the script is

Roman.

Saifuddin Mosque

• Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque• It is located on an artificial lagoon near the Brunei

River. It is considered to be the largest mosque of the Far East. The walls, arches, columns and towers are made of Italian marble. The walls support the gold dome on the top of the mosque. It was named after the 28th Sultan of Brunei.
