Feb 2014 Troy, Ohio Vol. XXXIX Issue 2

From The Prez It has been a very busy month of January for me while preparing material for my upcoming classes and demonstrations. Below is a picture of blanks and cutouts for my Hummingbird class at Dick and Barb Belcher’s place on February 7th.

On February 22nd I will be at the Charlotte Show to judge and demonstrate “Bird Feathering Techniques” and then on to Florida to instruct a three day Nuthatch class beginning February 26th. I have found that keeping busy with woodcarving made it easier to cope with the cold and snowy winter weather that we have had this year.

Feb Program Last month, Rob Liptak gave us an interesting insight into the world of full-time wood carving. Our speaker this month will be Casey Reed, Miami County Park District Naturalist.

Cookies Cookie volunteers last month were Rich Richmond and Barb Belcher. This month Sandy Czajka is the only one signed up. Some one else want to step up?

Show Committee Meeting Meeting will be at 6 PM at Brukner on the 11th. As always, everyone is invited. It’s getting close now so we will need a lot of help getting everything going.

Club Competition January meeting was the first quarterly competition for 2014. (I forgot my camera last month, so I only have pictures for a couple of the winners that were sent to me by the carvers) Category winners were: Adv Misc: 1st: Don Worley 2nd: Bruce Henn Advance Nature 1st: Joe Rousch

Advanced Caricature 1st: Mulie Sheets 2nd: Rich Richmond No club competition this month, but still bring in your Show-and-Tell items. Remember, bringing an item to show gets you a ticket in the drawing.

MISC If you haven’t visited their site, you might want to check out the Carver’s Companion and Woodcarver Online Magazine (www.carverscompanion.com).

Images If you remember, I asked at the Christmas party for any

pictures of ornaments that either you carved or received this year. Think it would make a great folder for out web and Facebook pages. This is the ornament that Bruce Nicholas carved and Judy painted – I got this one at the Christmas party!

I’m still looking for any pictures of ornament or any other carvings. For both the newsletter and webpage. Send me anything you have, I know that I saw a lot of really great ornaments, more than enough to fill up a page. Don’t worry about size, cropping, etc. I’ll do all that to make them all fit.

Wrap Up

My brother lives in St Cloud!

That’s all for this month, see you at the meeting, Tuesday, 11 Feb at 7:00 PM.
