5 YEAR RENEWABLE GRANT

12 week training in environmental remediation and basic construction

plus additional focus on waterfront & ecological restoration

target population 18 and upunder or unemployed people of color living in designated brownfield areas

training to include: environmental health & safety, life skills, basic construction, hands-on, mentoring, industry related math & writing, job placement assistancelow impact development

Training Curriculum Segmented into Three Components

A. Life Skills, Construction Related Education & Professional Development B. Environmental Health & Safety Instruction & Intro to Ecological RestorationC. Construction Skills, Offsite Hands-On Experience, EJ Advocacy & Career Development

Each Component runs approximately 4 weeks.Participant Evaluations occur at the end of each component.

Outreach & Recruitment

Be between 18 & 30 years of age * Have a HS Diploma or GED

Be either unemployed or underemployed

Be physically able to do the work

Have an 8th grade math & reading level

Be able to pass a drug test

Be available to attend Pre-Apprenticeship training full time

Be committed to completing the entire program

2006 – 2007 graduated 38 Certified Students, Placed 32. Six, (6) Month retention, 82%
