March was such a fun month. We talked about the Supermarket and learned all about healthy eating and food safety. The Ladybugs know all about the food groups and that we must eat foods from each food group so that we can grow up to be big and strong. Thank you to all our families who brought in a picture for our Supermarket book. The Ladybugs enjoyed looking at pictures of one an-other at the store. We also had lots of friends turn three!

April is filled with fun and exciting things. The theme for April is Zoo. The weekly themes include: “Zoo Animals,” “Easter,” “Zoo Workers,” and “Animal Habitats”. In cel-

ebration of our theme, the Ladybugs will be going to the zoo on Friday, April 26th. You must turn in the money for the field trip by Friday, April 5th. The cost is $6 per child and adult. Please let us know if you will be able to attend the trip. Families with Zoo memberships please let us know if you will be at-tending or not attend. Speak to Ms. Claudia and Ms. Sarah if you have any other ques-tions regarding the field trip.

Easter Party celebration will take place on Friday, April 12th at lunch. Please make sure to sign up to bring something for the celebration. Please also remember to bring twelve eggs filled with goodies for the egg hunt. Spring break is around the corner. School will be out April 15th-19th.

Language and Literacy: The letters of the month are R, S, T. The Ladybugs will engage in activities that pertain to the letter of the week. We will be reading the books, My Bunny, My Star, My Black and White, At the Zoo, Miss Moo Goes to the Zoo, Good Night Gorilla, and Edward the Emu. Relating back to the Zoo theme, we will be discussing what kinds of animals live at the Zoo as well as all the people that work at the zoo. We will also be talking about what kind of habitats the Zoo animals live in and what their natural habitat looks like in the wild.

Math: The number of the month is 8. The Ladybugs will have various opportunities to rote count and identify the number 8. The shape of the month is the star. We will be counting shooting stars and each ladybug will be able to identify small, medium, and large stars. The Zoo theme will also present various math opportunities. For example, the ladybugs will count how many legs the spider has, make patterned snakes, and se-

quence zoo animals. Easter week will include jelly bean counting/sorting and bunny counting.

Science & Social Studies: Studying zoo animals is so much fun! After our class fieldtrip we will be putting together a book that talks about our time at the zoo. The ladybugs shall be able to categorize the animals by feathers, fur, and skin. Each ladybug will also be able

to identify animals by their tracks. We are also going to be zookeepers and make sure the zoo animals are kept healthy, clean, and fed.

Fine Motors & Art: The Ladybugs will engage in art projects that pertain to the zoo theme. We will be making zoo animals out of our hands and out of shapes. The ladybugs will clean the zoo animals with tooth brushes using small and large circular motions, and

decorate both eggs and an Easter bag before the Easter bunny visit’s the school.

Music & Movement: The Ladybugs love to dance and move! We will be singing songs that have to do with the zoo all month long. You will hear “5 Little Monkeys, “ “Daddy’s Taking us the Zoo Tomorrow, “Animal Boogie,” and “Little Bunny Foo Foo”. We sing our songs all day long!

Hello April and happy Spring! March was such an exciting month and everyone enjoyed it! Thank you to all the parents who help contribute to our “Everything Green, Saint Patrick’s Party.” The children enjoyed looking for the silly leprechaun who came into our class, ate all our snacks, and then left his tiny footprints all over our room. We still haven’t found him

yet, so if you do see him, please let us know! Thank you to Naima’s family for the yummy treats and pizza for her 4th birthday. All the kiddos loved it!

For the month of April, there will be so much to do! Please mark your calendars and stay on the lookout on our classroom whiteboard for any updates. We will be putting up lots of information for this month. Our classroom Easter Egg Hunt will take place on Friday, April 12. Easter Luncheon Potluck Style with all our families and friends will also be on the same day at 11:30 A.M; so please take the day off and come join us. More information will be provided on the whiteboard.

April will also be full of fun month of learning and exploring. The Butterfly class will start a new theme: “A Habitat Is a Place to Live,” discovering about animals that live in the air, underground and in the deep ocean. Parents are encouraged to bring any books your child may have from home about animals and different habitat that animals live in to share with their classmates.

REMINDER: Parents, please help your child with their sign in name folder either at drop off or pick up times. Our Butterflies need the extra help with writing their names and we are work-ing really hard to help them out. We’d love your help and contribution to your child’s suc-cess. If you would like a copy of your child’s practice name sheet to take home, let us know and we are more than happy to make a copy for you.

Language/Literacy and Fine motor: Yes! We finally made it to the last two letters of the alphabet. Letter Yy and Zz will be introduce and for the rest of the month. The Butterfly Class will focus on letter matching with uppercase to lowercase, and letter sounds. The children are doing such a great job knowing whose last name is who’s, however, not yet on print. We continue to work extra hard to master our last names. If by chance you hear your child calling their friends by their last name, it's because we are calling each other by our last names only. This month, the Butterflies will have the opportunity to test their skills by matching lowercase to uppercase letters on the ABC chart and introduce to sound blending. We’ve been observing our Butterflies and noticed they struggle with their penmanship skills. We are doing our very best here at school to help them develop their penmanship skill, and in addition ask for your support at home with your child. Let’s tag team this!

Math: The Butterfly class has been reviewing numbers 10-15 for the past two months, we will be moving on and introducing numbers 16-18. As we learn the new numbers 16-18, we will also continue to review numbers 10-15, we feel that the Butterfly class still needs help with number recognition, one-to one correspondence counting, and matching dots to numbers. The Butterflies are able to rote count up to 20’s and 30’s, however, number recognition, and counting one to one correspondence is

still a huge struggle. Parents, may we ask you again to also please help us. Help your child at home, so we all can help your child succeed with their math skills. The math activities we’ll introduce this month; is the introduction of a dime and quarter, pairs, sorting the shortest to the longest worm, counting, and matching fish, sorting seashells by size, counting birds on the nest, and continue with their AB,ABC, and ABAB patterns.

Science/Social Studies: Learning about animals and their living habitat is a blast! We’ll talk about animals that live in the air, underground, and in the ocean. We’ll learn how birds build their nests and then get a chance to build a nest of our own. Exploring sensory and science activity is always so much fun! Throughout the month of April, the But-terfly class will get the opportunity to watch multiple caterpillars turn into butter-flies and observing earthworms. We’ll get to explore what is hibernation and why do some animals hibernate during a specific season only. The children will have the opportunity to make their own ocean sensory bottle to take home too!

Creative Arts: Stay on the lookout. Our little Butterflies are “beezy” creating master art pieces! This month, our Butterflies will be busy creating arts of different types of animals and their habitat. Creating a warm hollow den for the fuzzy bears to sleep and creating Butterfly wings that are identical to each other (pair). Exploring what lives underwater is always so interesting, creating a ocean in a bottle will be so much fun! The Butterflies will cre-ate their own starfish with sand too. Stay tuned for our great master-pieces on our art wall!

Music and movement: The song “Gummy Bear” has become such a big hit in the Butterfly Class. As soon as the song plays, the children show off their silly dance moves and skills! You have to see how silly they dance to that silly song! This month, many new songs will be in-troduced to the Butterflies, such as: “Five Whales, “ “Slippery Fish,” “Baby Beluga,” “The Yellow Sub-marine,” “Alice the Camel,” “Fly Fly the Butterfly,” and “Flap Your Wings Together”.

Giraffes

Spring has finally sprung! Hoppity, hoppity, we are planning an Easter egg hunt on Friday, April 12th. We would like each Giraffe to donate some goodies to place in our eggs. Keep your eyes peeled for the sign-up sheet. This event will be sure to bring excitement and laughter.

The Giraffes class enjoyed exploring and learning about last month’s themes; which included Things That Move, Travel, Transportation, and Mysterious Movers. They were also busy little bees, working hard on measuring, weighing, adding,

addition word problems, subtraction, and even skip counting by 10’s. Their writing has been steadily improving. Writing spelling words, spelling sentences, and spelling tests are all part of the writing prac-tice that occurs daily in the classroom. We always encourage at home practice, writing both numbers, letters, words and sentences.

In April, we’ll start on our Animal theme which includes Farm Animals, Zoo Animals, Bugs, and more Bugs. Some top-ics we are going to explore include classifying animals by their habitats. Which creatures live on land or under-ground? What animals can we find living in water? The Giraffes will also discuss how we benefit from animals.

Math: In Mathematics our students will continue to work on addition and subtraction concepts, comparing numbers, measuring and weighing objects. Additionally, the children are always working on improving their penmanship when writing numbers.

Language/Literacy: The Giraffe class will continue to practice the early reader books, sight words, spelling lists taken from each reader and sight word sentences. Sight words have become popular with in our classroom, the children find sight words in written books, magazines and even share with us the words they spot outside of the class-room! We can never get enough practice writing. Please continue to support writing skills at home.

Science/Social Studies: Finding animals to explore is always a blast. We will discuss what farm ani-mals provide us. Which animals live on land and which do not. What animal or bug is your favorite? How do we care for animals and bugs? Let’s explore animals, bugs and insects, their life cycles and parts of their body. How do they survive. All living things have similar needs for water, food, and air.

Creative Art: During April there is going to be many arts and crafts related to animals. The child di-rected art is so much fun. We are all enjoying the end results, we see all their personalities shine through their art pieces. Farm animals, zoo animals and bugs are going to be a blast to see hung up in our art walls. Looking forward to each child’s master piece.

Music and Movement: Freeze dance has become much of a needed and popular fun exciting activity. The children love to dance, and all our fabulous dancing skills surely shine through.

Foreign Language: It’s always fun reviewing colors numbers shapes, furniture around the house. We introduced family related words, common greetings.
