Soper Roots district was designed to reconnect the locals with their natural surroundings. With a focus on community building, connectivity, and active living, the site draws upon its industrial past and modern potential to create a cohesive experience for those who visit and reside.
Remaining true to the culture of craftsmanship, the district was designed to be a creative space for work and play. What was once an art metal factory has new life as an Arts Quarter, while the former manufacturing building lends its historic architectural form to new business in the area.

STUDYMODEL
The vision for our Uptown Waterloo Redesign is to provide a mixed-use development that reflects the local demographics while being economically and socially inclusive, accessible, and conducive to healthy lifestyles as well as incorporating progressive sustainable features.
Through this proposed design, a sense of place identity is conceptualized with physical components that stir, entice, and enhance the community’s collective memory of the city’s historic past and convey a sense of cultural belonging and inclusivity for current individuals and communities.

Previously known as Kitchener’s Historic Warehouse District, we proposed to build upon this legacy by retaining the site’s cultural heritage alongside modern initiatives and necessary infrastructural changes. With the implementation of a multi-modal transit hub, mixed-use development, and much more green and open spaces, it is envisioned that this district will further develop into a tech-cluster, seeing small companies launch from the district, and contribute to creating a prosperous local economy.
The multiple parking lots and abandoned properties were addressed through strategic brownfield development with the goal to attract commercial and residential development and investment to this Innovation District.

Having spent almost a year living in Kunming, China, I had the opportunity to hone skills in photography and graphic design as I explored new passions and immersed myself in a vastly different culture from my own. The contrasts in design and architectural practices throughout China, Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand were very interesting to observe during my travels, and upon my return to Canada, I decided pursue the prospect of compiling my experiences into small book.
Partnering with Dr. Luna Khirfan at the University of Waterloo, I was able to begin writing and designing ‘Eastern Innovation’, taking readers on a journey through urban design in Asian cities, focusing on how various public open spaces have fostered vibrant and active communities. Below is a sample from Chapter 1.

Though I was only in Barcelona for two weeks, it has definitely had a profound impact on the way that I view urban open spaces and approach artistic design processes. Led by Italian architect and professor from the University of Milan, Giuseppe Amoruso, a group of 25 students explored the city through an architectural perspective. Armed with only a pen, sketchbook, and water paints, we immersed ourselves deeply in Catalonian art, history, food, language, and culture as pages continued to fill one after another.
Below is a sample of my sketchbook drawings from the course, inspired by the genius of Antoni Gaudi, Picasso, and various unknown sculptural artists and early architects. Having the greatest impact on me was the way that colour, texture, form, and shape can all be manipulated to establish a certain atmosphere known only to the beautiful Barcelona.

During my time at both LURA Consulting and the City of Hamilton, I have had the opportunity to continuously progress in graphic design skills and design a number of promotional and project material.
#nofilter was hosted as a fun protest against this modern age of insta-satisfaction and technology, utilizing only 35 mm film photographs, a friend and I presented our work collaboratively in Kunming. Before It’s Lost will be an observational gallery about the current urban transition in China with the destruction of many urban villages across the nation to make way for modern development.

My work with Ardent Skatepark in Kunming, China has allowed me to explore differen facets of logo and product design. I was in charge of producing stickers, skateboard graphics, signs in the park, and promotional flyers, as well as video and photography work for major events.
Below are a few samples of branding exercises I have produced for Ardent Skatepark as well as other personal projects.
