Welcome!

PIAB’s first product was a pair of compasses that could draw both very small and very large circles with high precision. The com-passes have also given the company its name. Pi (=3.14) AB

In 1972 PIAB introduced the patented multistage ejector, which still is the guiding-star for many companies in this market.

The PIAB mission is to be a global leader in industrial vacuum technology and to offer innovative solutions in order to improve the productivity and working en-vironment of vacuum users around the world.

Today we are on the cutting edge of vacuum technology, and we have been creating new opportunities for customers since our founding in 1951. Prod-ucts and systems developed in-house at PIAB are always a step ahead of the competition. Used primarily for automated materials handling and in produc-tion processes, they are being marketed throughout the world.

PIAB’s latest patent: COAX™ technology, a further development of the multi-stage principle, now with integrated functions.

Better working environmentPleasant working temperature – the lack of moving parts means that no heat (due to friction) is generated.

Clean air to breath – as PIAB’s vacuum pumps have no moving parts they do not require any lubrication with oil, for example, that causes oil mist on the premises.

Low noise level – no moving parts that vibrate or cause noise.

Advantages of compressed air

Leading robot manu-facturers solve their vacuum-related prob-lems by using PIAB products because they are so small, powerful and easy to install.

Economical operation (= save money)PIAB’s vacuum pumps are driven by compressed air. The unique design is that of a multistage ejector that uses the energy in multiple stages, and therefore con-sumes a minimum of energy. The energy consumption can be further reduced (= sav-ing even more money) by using PIAB’s Energy Saving (ES) system, which allows for a minimum of energy con-sumption in sealed systems.

Low investment costsPIAB’s vacuum pumps are small but powerful, which makes possible installation at the very suction point it-self. The vacuum pumps can therefore be optimally di-mensioned so that you can avoid any drop of flow in the vacuum pipelines.

Reliable production...PIAB’s vacuum pumps do not have any moving parts that might be broken or need to be replaced. Therefore, no production stoppages will be experienced.

...despite varying feed pressurePIAB’s new vacuum pumps are developed to display good performance at low feed pressures as well as at high feed pressures, which means that the vacuum pumps work perfectly even when the pressure in the compressed air pipeline fluctuates, for example, when compressed air pistols are used.

Example: Vacuum pump P3010 gives a vacuum level of 90 –kPa at a feed pressure of 0.3 MPa.

Principle of the COAXTM technologyThis new technology is derived from the multi-stage ejector principle. Note that both a filter and check valves are integrat-ed into the ejector section.

When compressed air (1) passes through the nozzles (2), air is pulled through with the stream of compressed air. “Suction” is thus created at the opening of each stage (3), resulting in low pressure, vacuum (4).

Principle of PIAB vacuum pumps

When compressed air (1) passes through the nozzles (2), air is pulled through with the stream of compressed air. “Suction” is thus created at the opening of each stage (3).

PIAB vacuum pumps are compressed air-driven vacuum pumps. The unique construction makes maximum use of the compressed air and therefore consumes less energy. Large vacuum flows and high levels of vacuum are characteristic of PIAB’s vacuum pumps.

Vacuum systems

Fully decentralized systemDecentralized system, i.e., a locally placed vacuum pump at each suction cup.

Centralized systemSystem with centrally placed vacuum pump and control system.

Partly decentralized systemThe control system is centrally placed and the vacuum pump is placed closer to the point of suction.

Energy Saving systemOne way of saving additional energy is to use the PIAB energy-saving sys-tem (ES). The ES system is a pneumatic control system that shuts off the vacuum pump as soon as the required vacuum has been reached, thus minimising the compressed air consumption of the vacuum pump. When the vacuum drops below the start-up level, the pump automatically restarts.

Various vacuum switches are available for more relia-ble operation and accurate control of the process - mini-aturized design, analogue and static outputs and an LED display are some of the standard alternatives.

Pump module

The Quick-release module speeds up the re-lease of a part or restoring the system to at-mospheric pressure. For higher capacity, an extra tank that offers additional volume can be fitted to the quick- release module.

The pump performance can be doubled by adding an extra pump module.

The “click-in” rail is available in several versions. Up to four pumps can be docked to a single rail.

Solenoid valve for controlling the pump.

The PIAB P3010 uses the COAX™ technology, which makes it small, robust and easy to install. This vacuum pump consists of a cassette with integrated nozzles, non-return valves, silencers and filters for compressed air and vac-uum. The P3010 vacuum pump series includes control and monitoring func-tions such as solenoid valves, vacuum switches and quick-release modules.

These are small and lightweight vacuum pumps, MINI, with large ca-pacity that can compensate for leakages. The MINI pumps are avail-

able with different characteristics, accessories and designs so that they can be adapted to different applications. The pump can be mounted onto various types of bottom plates and, through this, be given numerous connection possibilities. It can also be

fitted with valves and/or a vacuum sensor. By doing so, a complete system is created, and such a system can, when necessary, be dimensioned for larger flows.

To filter dust and other small particles from the vacuum flow.

Reduces the risk of operation breakdown or stoppage in the pump.

 Replaceable filter element.

Protect your vacuum pump with a vacuum filter.

Energy-saving system (ES)One way of saving additional energy is to use the PIAB energysaving sys-tem (ES). The ES system is a pneumatic control system that shuts off the vacuum pump as soon as the required vacuum has been reached, thus minimising the compressed air consumption of the vacuum pump. When the vacuum drops below the start-up level, the pump automatically restarts.

Recommended hose dimensions in mm (internal diameter)

Applies to hoses up to 2 m long.

IMPORTANT!

A very important part of the vacuum system is correctlydimensioned hoses and couplings. Please consult thetable above to obtain the highest possible performancefrom each vacuum pump.

Pressure drop in compressed air hosesWhen installing compressed air hoses, it is importantthat the dimension (diameter) and length do not lead toexcessive pressure drops. PIAB vacuum pumps aresupplied with recommended hose dimensions that willnot cause excessive pressure drops at lengths below 2m.

In cases when the pressure drop has to be calculated, the formula below can be used.
