PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

The Doctor of Philosophy (Business) PhD programme is designed to preparestudents for a career as an academic or a researcher or a consultant in the publicor private sector. The research in the PhD programme is an in-depth investigationof specic research issue(s) related to a management discipline with the aim ofenhancing and contributing to new knowledge in that discipline. Students areexpected to have strong theoretical and research methodological foundations andbe able to conduct their research independently.

RESEARCH PROPOSAL

Applicants for Doctor of Philoshopy (Business) PhD programme are required tosubmit a comprehensive statement of the research which they propose to carryout. The proposal should comprise the following elements:

1 Field of research2 Topic of research proposal3 Problem statement with a brief literature review on the research topic4 Proposed objective and signicant of study - Explain the objective(s) that

inuence the research5 Methodology of study - Explain the methods used in study6 Work schedule7 References8 The research proposal should contain between 1,500 - 2,000 words or about

four (4) pages

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTSTo qualify for admission into the Doctor of Philosophy (Business) PhD programme,the applicant is required to possess one of the following qualications:

1 A Master's Degree or its equivalent in the relevant eld, or2 Other qualications as approved by the IUMW senate, or3 Applicants with a Bachelor's Degree with CGPA of 3.7 and above can apply

direcly for a PhD programme

PROGRAMME MODULES

PHASE ICOURSEWORK(8 credit hours)

Two core courses  Research Process and Academic

  Writing  Research Design and Methodology

PHASE IIPROPOSAL DEFENCE

  Each student must present anddefend his/her PhD researchproposal. The student is onlyallowed to continue with his/herresearch to Phase Ill on passing ofthe defence of his/her proposal

PHASE IllDATA COLLECTION AND THESISPREPARATION

  The student proceeds to his/herdata collection, data analysis andthesis writing

PHASE IV

VIVA VOCE  After submitting the thesis, the

students is required to attend aViva Voce to defend his/her thesis
