development of TMCP-steels. We specialize in TM-rolling with

accelerated cooling.

A wide product range combined with excellent project manage-

The basis for the production of high-quality linepipe and offshore plates are excellent slabs. We procure continuously cast

slabs from our top steel mill at voestalpine Stahl GmbH in Linz. Steel with a high purity is produced by LD-process (Linz-

Donawitz-process, invented by engineers of voestalpine), with subsequent metallurgical and vacuum treatment.

Slabs from our top steel plant

Process models guarantee the precise chemical composition. The roller

gap in the casting machine is adjusted by using dynamic soft reduction

to minimize center segregation. High-level automation of the casting

process, including computer aided quality control, ensures optimum sur-

face quality of the slabs.

Pure steel by vacuum degassing: low level of non-metallic inclusions, low hydrogen, low nitrogen

Slab reheating

The slabs are heated in a pusher-type furnace.

After a throughput time of around three hours

the slabs reach a temperature of 1100° to 1200°

Celsius. A process model is used to ensure uni-

form heating of the slabs.

Hot rolling

The core process of heavy plate production is

hot rolling. Heavy plates with proper dimensi-

ons, surface quality and flatness as well as

with desired technological properties are pro-

duced on the four-high rolling stand.

Accelerated cooling

The online accelerated cooling process results

in excellent material properties. Even with

low alloy and carbon contents, high strength

and highest toughness values are achieved.

The low carbon equivalent leads to better

weldability.

Hot leveling

The world’s strongest hot leveling machine

for heavy plates (leveling force up to 6,000 mt,

drive power of 5.5 MW) provides excellent

flatness, especially for thicker and high-

strength plates.

Slab reheating, hot rolling, accelerated cooling and leveling are completely process-controlled. Thus close size toleran-

ces, excellent flatness and surface quality as well as reproducible material properties are achieved. Modern technologies

are used for measuring, recording and evaluation of the main process parameters. This method provides transparency of

the production process and is the basis for continuous improvements.

ABS, DNV, TÜV, API and also for a number of

specific offshore contracts for operators inclu-

ding Saudi Aramco, Qatar Petroleum, Shell,

dedicated center of expertise. We continually

invest in the education of our staff and in the

latest research tools to assure first-class techni-

cal investigation.

We have an independent and fully accredited

testing facility on site.

Our R&D is continually developing new

materials for more complex applications and

contributes to the optimization of our pro -

duction processes. Additional work includes

simulations of material performance such as

weldability, deformation and edging behavior,

fatigue tests and fracture mechanics. These

tests provide a complete performance profile of

our steels under practical conditions.

Linepipe plates

Our strengthsOur plates are thermomechanically rolled and accelerated cooled (TM+ACC) and provide excellent toughness and

best weldability.

We provide linepipe plates for highest requirements: high thicknesses for deepwater (depths down to 2,500 meters),

sour service (pH3, pH5), high-strength steels up to X120, high uniform elongation, strain-based design.

We manufacture steel plates that prevent HIC (hydrogen induced cracking) and SSC (sulphide stress cracking) caused

by hydrogen sulphide, according to all common standards: NACE TM0284 Solution A and B, NACE MR0177, EFC16.

All steel grades are delivered with high toughness: performance of notch impact test and drop weight tear test (DWTT)

at temperatures below 0°C if required.

We supply linepipe plates for pipe diameters of 18 to 48 inches.

Offshore plates

PerformanceIn general offshore structures are built to drill for oil and gas from natural deep-sea resource deposits. Materials for such

structures are required to ensure greater safety from failure. We supply steel plates for all structures, f.i. module walls, top-

sides, hulls, turrets and moorings, piles and jacket legs.

ChordsChords are structural components of jack up rigs.

These half shells strengthen the gear racks of

the legs.

ProductionWe developed the production of chords in our press shop in-house. Pre-material are high-strength heavy plates rolled at

the heavy plate mill. Afterwards the cutted strips are hot-pressed in a hydraulic press capable of a press force of 3,500 mt.

The perfect size of the chord is reached by the pressing die based on finite-element-calculation also developed in-house.

Then the formed chords are quenched and tempered and leveled. Finally the complex edge processing is done.
