A very warm welcome to another new season. Avoid the queues by using our online booking system which has been much improved and now allows you to choose your individual seats freely from any that are available. irrespective of how you book we impose no surcharges at all.

Last year we were proud to be awarded the accolade of Best venue (200+ seats) by the ever popular Dave’s Leicester comedy festival. this year we present stand up comedy from Patrick Monahan, John Shuttleworth and a Jarlath Regan/Roisin contay double bill; country magic from Pete firman; and period fun from Gilbert & Sullivan Abridged.

As always, we offer an exciting mix of LDS main house drama productions, six plays for all tastes by terence Rattigan, Molière, Peter Nichols, Neil Simon, Alan Bennett and Mrs Gaskill. Let us not forget our very successful Youth theatre group who will be performing Dracula Spectacula.

Our highly successful special fundraising series continues with

High School Rocks and clairvoyant Andrew Dee.

We also feature three major musical productions from local amateur operatic companies, Yeomen of the Guard, Camelot and Whistle Down the Wind. The Little Theatre is completely self funding and only exists due to the fantastically loyal support of its regular patrons and the selfless dedication of its volunteer members. We have at last received planning approval to develop the adjacent car park to relieve pressure on our facilities in the main theatre building. We had to make major changes to our original plans, reducing the useable space by over 30%, to meet objections from the planners. We now have an envelope within which we can plan how best to use the space.

Ronnie Winslow, a 13-year-old naval cadet, is accused of theft and expelled from The Royal Naval College, Osborne. Believing in his son’s innocence his father risks fortune, health, domestic peace and his daughter’s prospects in order to pursue justice and restore the family’s name. With the help of a top barrister the matter is taken before Parliament and permission sought to sue the Crown.

Based on a real life legal case, it is an astonishing drama about injustice, the force of the Establishment and the power of one family’s love and belief in the truth.

Harpagon is a penny-pinching money lender who rules his household with a miserly grip. His two unhappy rebellious children, Cléante and Elise, who are afraid to tell him of their own romantic attachments, are suddenly dismayed to discover that he has marital designs of his own.

When Harpagon’s treasure is also stolen, he suspects everyone: family, suitors, disgruntled servants, even the audience and threatens torture and imprisonment. This is a rollicking 17th century French farce, where after comic misunderstandings and unexpected revelations, true love prevails and Harpagon is at last reunited with his one love - his gold.

Alan Bennett’s brilliantly witty, perceptive tale of an unruly handful of senior schoolboys, preparing for places at either Oxford or Cambridge under the tutelage of their somewhat eccentric history teacher, was a sensation when it first opened at the National Theatre in 2004. An unusual approach to their studies is questioned when a new, young, history teacher joins the staff with strong views of his own. The play is thought-provoking, challenging, moving and, at times, hilarious.

“A play of depth as well as dazzle, intensely moving as well as thought-provoking and funny.” The Daily Telegraph

Reflecting the kind of headlines that we see in our newspapers all too often, an ordinary teenager is fatally stabbed in a random street attack and an ordinary family is torn apart by grief. The play explores the long road to healing and forgiveness in the midst of the most appalling hurt.

In collaboration with The Forgiveness Project, the play evolved from work with prisoners and as well as playing in theatres, it has also toured prisons. It is one of those rare stage offerings that can change lives.

Miss Matilda Jenkyns requests the pleasure of your company to meet The Ladies of Cranford.Based on the book by Elizabeth Gaskell, the play faithfully portrays the ladies as seen through the author’s eyes.

Living in an era of rapid change, Mrs Gaskell decided to write down her memories of the stalwart, eccentric women of her youth. They were independent ladies, running their own lives, often silly, sometimes stubborn and full of an unconscious humour. So, laugh with the ladies, share their sorrows – and meet two of the few Gentlemen of Cranford.

The whole cast take a bow at the end of the Senior Youth Theatre production of Honk!

The Youth Theatre is growing and going from strength to strength. Since last September we have three Saturday morning workshops- one for 8-12 year olds and two for 13-18 year olds- with nearly eighty young people involved.

Last year the Senior Youth Theatre staged a highly successful production of Honk! in the main house.

We are delighted to announce that in June the Seniors will be presenting the spooky musical Dracula Spectacula (or Fangs ain’t what they use to be!), with a large, talented cast of boys and ghouls. Performances will take place on June 6th-8th 2013. We hope to see you all there.

There will be two ‘Plays in a Week’ for 8-16 year olds in April and July where the young people arrive on Monday, create a story and perform the finished work on the following Friday evening.

The two new groups will perform six times each in the Haywood Studio throughout the academic year.

Hard work, but worth it.
