The teams met for the first time this season at Ashford University Field May 29-31 with the LumberKings taking two out of three. Since Clinton has been affiliated with the Seattle Mariners (2009) they are tied in the head-to-head matchups 72 games to 72. LumberKings Starter: Clay Chandler, 24, makes his 13th appearance and sixth start of the season for the Clinton LumberKings. The Kentucky native, made his fourth straight start his last time out, earning the win against the Kane County Cougars. Chandler worked a professional career high seven innings during his time out in addition to striking out a professional career high eight batters. He allowed two runs on five hits while walking none. Chandler has been in the LumberKings starting rotation since the trade of Tommy Romero to the Tampa Bay Rays organization. He began the season as Clinton’s long reliever but during his second outing of the year made his first spot start of the season, game one of a doubleheader with the Kane County Cougars on April 8 th . Since being inserted in the LumberKings rotation, Chandler has lasted at least five innings in each of his starts. The Seattle Mariners signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Southeast Missouri State University on June 29, 2017. River Bandits Starter: The Quad Citied River Bandits will start left-hander Dean Deatz as part of a rehab assignment. Deatz is scheduled to throw just one inning before turning things over to Enoli Paredes, 22, who will make his 10 th appearance of the season for the Quad Cities River Bandits. He is coming off his first start of the season his last timeout. He took a no decision for a 4.1 inning outing against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Neuroscience Group Field. Paredes allowed two runs on four hits while walking none and striking out five. In the previous LumberKings meeting with the River Bandits in Clinton, the Dominican native did not pitch. A season ago, Paredes was a Midwest League All-Star for Quad Cities but did not participate in the game due to an injury. His 2017 season ended following five innings of hitless and scoreless ball against the Cedar Rapids Kernels on May 31. Due to the injury, Paredes was not with Quad Cities during their Midwest League Championship run. Last Time Out: The Clinton LumberKings failed to complete a five-game series sweep of the Kane County Cougars on Monday night at Ashford University Field, falling 7-3. A four-run Cougars (31-32) second inning proved to be too much to overcome as the LumberKings (37-27) winning streak came to end at five games. Two- run home runs by Ernie De La Trinidad and Tim Susnara accounted for all four of the Cougars second inning runs. Ryne Inman started for Clinton and allowed the first long fly of the inning to De La Trinidad on a hanging breaking ball that was deposited in the Lumber Lounge in right. Two batters later Susnara bested the previous home run with a ball that sailed over the Lumber Lounge and put Kane County on top for good. The LumberKings answered the run in the bottom of the second on back-to-back doubles from Dimas Ojeda and Eugene Helder. Following the doubles, the LumberKings loaded the bases against Cougars starter Jeff Bain but would leave them loaded after strikeouts of Billy Cooke and Joseph Rosa. With the tying run in the on-deck circle, the Cougars called on Breckin Williams who retired Rosa on a ground out to first to end the inning. Williams worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his second save of the season. The LumberKings magic number to clinch a playoff spot in the first half is four. A Chance to Clinch: The LumberKings enter Quad Cities with a chance to clinch a playoff spot for the first half in the Western Division. Clinton currently owns a magic number of four to clinch at least a wild card meaning, if the LumberKings were to take two of three from the River Bandits, Clinton will be celebrating a playoff berth at Modern Woodmen Park. The LumberKings enter the series with a one game lead in the Western Division over the Peoria Chiefs. The magic number to clinch the West is six coming into Tuesday night’s game. Bullpen for the Win: The loss given to Ryne Inman in Monday nights loss to the Kane County Cougars was a significant one. It marked the 20 th loss of the season by LumberKings starters who are now 500 at 20-20. In contrast, the bullpen has posted a 17-7 record to this point in the season with a significantly lower ERA of 3.53 to the ERA of starting pitchers, 4.16. Going to the Derby: Ryan Costello will be one of the four LumberKings in Lansing this year for the All-Star game. The day will be busy for Costello who accepted an invitation to participate in this year’s home run derby. He leads the team in home runs, nine, coming into this series and also owns the longest home run hit at Ashford University Field this year, a 461 foot smash against the Dayton Dragons on Sunday, May 6 th . LumberKings All-Stars: The All-Star announcements are here and the Clinton LumberKings will be a well- represented team in Lansing on June 19 th . Jack Larsen will start for the Western Division All-Stars while teammate Ryan Costello will come off the bench. Pitchers Ryne Inman and Collin Kober will represent Clinton and come out of the bullpen. All four of the LumberKings representatives will be making their first all-star game appearances of their professional career. This date in baseball history: On this date in 1839, due to an erroneous eye-witness account, Abner Doubleday is given credit for establishing the first baseball game played in America. The Hall of Fame, which opens a century later in Cooperstown, celebrates the origin of our national pastime in this small upstate New York town although it is doubtful the West Point cadet was ever there or ever watched a baseball game. Today’s Preview: The Clinton LumberKings (A, Mariners) meet the Quad Cities River Bandits (A, Astros) for

the second time this season with the opener of a three-game series. The teams met for the first time this season at

Ashford University Field May 29-31 with the LumberKings taking two out of three. After dropping the first

game to the River Bandits 4-2 Clinton went on to take game two 13-6 and game three 5-2. The LumberKings

trail the all-time series, dating back to 1960, 414 to 452. Since Clinton has been affiliated with the Seattle

Mariners (2009) they are tied in the head-to-head matchups 72 games to 72.

LumberKings Starter: Clay Chandler, 24, makes his 13th appearance and sixth start of the season for the

Clinton LumberKings. The Kentucky native, made his fourth straight start his last time out, earning the win

against the Kane County Cougars. Chandler worked a professional career high seven innings during his time

out in addition to striking out a professional career high eight batters. He allowed two runs on five hits while

walking none. Chandler has been in the LumberKings starting rotation since the trade of Tommy Romero to the

Tampa Bay Rays organization. He began the season as Clinton’s long reliever but during his second outing of

the year made his first spot start of the season, game one of a doubleheader with the Kane County Cougars on

April 8th. Since being inserted in the LumberKings rotation, Chandler has lasted at least five innings in each of

his starts. The Seattle Mariners signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Southeast Missouri State

University on June 29, 2017.

River Bandits Starter: The Quad Citied River Bandits will start left-hander Dean Deatz as part of a rehab

assignment. Deatz is scheduled to throw just one inning before turning things over to Enoli Paredes, 22, who will

make his 10th appearance of the season for the Quad Cities River Bandits. He is coming off his first start of the

season his last timeout. He took a no decision for a 4.1 inning outing against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at
