RESEARCHResearch & Observe > Survey > Interview

Contextual Inquiries and competitive analyses are two of my favorite tools.

I pair them with further in-depth research and comparative analyses to create a solid

foundation for my designs.solid

I love being able to get a lot of information in a quick and easy format. Surveys are great for this and help me reach a larger user group, figure out where they are coming from and gain more insight on

what they are looking for. where they are coming from

Research & Observe > Survey > Interview

Interviewing is key to really knowing your end-user and it involves just as much observation as dialogue. This is where you get

all the good stuff. observation

PERSONAS

PERSONASPersonas are kind of my thing. They help me to never lose sight of the user

and have their habits and pain points in mind throughout my design process. habits and pain points

INFORMATION ARCHITECTUREInformation Architecture can make a huge impact on business goals.

Along with site maps and product detailing, I use open and closed card sorting (like in these pictures) to get a better idea on how to organize

a client’s information.

Brainstorm > Sketch

Brainstorming is best done with a whiteboard, pens and sticky notes. I love throwing around ideas with a team and

seeing what we can come up with. Affinity diagrams have also been helpful in some of my processes to get a better idea of user requested features and themes.

Brainstorm > Sketch

Sketching and brainstorming go hand-in-hand for me. A UX designer’s greatest tool will always be a pen

and paper. I find great value in having users test a paper prototype prior to wireframing to make sure I’ve

accounted for all possible user actions.

Wireframe > Prototype

Wireframing is such big part of the overall UX process. I try to make mine as clear, simple and high-fidelity as

possible to make for better user testing.

A clickable prototype is the moment you finally get to see everything come together. I tend to use InVision and

Axure for my prototypes, but use POP as well for clickable paper prototypes. Hype 3 is my new software challenge.

Test > Iterate

I like to use Peek for remote user testing

Another part of my UX philosophy is to always be testing with users. This isn’t just something at the end of my

process, but something that bleeds throughout my timeline.

Test > Iterate

Testing will always lead to suggestions and changes. I know any design I create should be continually molded and iterated until

it seamlessly achieves the goals of the user. continually molded and iterated
