Welcome:Welcome to the 2019 Scientific Meeting of the BCCA, PECSIG, CCNA and BACCNA and the inaugural meeting of congenital cardiac physiologists at the Sage in Newcastle upon Tyne.
On behalf of the team at Freeman Hospital, Newcastle University and the Northern Neonatal, Paediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiac Network we look forward to an exciting meeting focusing on the key topics of Aortic Disease and Single Ventricle Circulations. We have aimed to combine our local expertise in the origins of congenital heart disease and advanced heart failure management with thought-provoking talks from patients and their families, who are at the heart of our work, and the experience of a distinguished National and International faculty. We hope the rich and varied programme will reflect the truly cross-disciplinary nature of our speciality and stimulate discussion that inspires future innovation and collaboration.
We would like to thank our sponsors for supporting this year’s meeting and wish you all a successful conference.
Best wishes David, Louise and Tony

The Madeleine Steel Charitable Trust:Madeleine Louise Steel, universally loved as “Maddy” was born on June 5th 2001 in the Simpson Memorial Pavilion in Edinburgh. She is Andrew and Veronica’s first child and despite having numerous health challenges in her short life, she was mainly cheerful, highly engaging and was cherished by all her family. Maddy died in her mother’s arms on November 24th 2001, following essential heart surgery for her Ebstein’s Anomaly, but her memory and her fight go on in the treasured memories of her family and in the practical form of the Fellowship established in her name. The Trust aims to endow permanent annual scholarships to promote transatlantic sharing of latest research and medical best practices in the field of paediatric cardiology. The Trust also supports related activities, such as visiting professorships and one-off medical research awards. We hope to provide opportunities for specialists to gain and develop better and more effective treatments for people with congenital cardiac conditions. Not only will we have a spread of returning trainees across the specialist centres in the UK, but we hope they will be passing on their new expertise to other specialists in the UK.The Madeleine Steel Charitable Trust is delighted to be sponsoring Dr Mike Seed to speak at this conference. The Young Investigator Award offering the opportunity to travel to a US conference is also being made with the generosity of the supporters and donors of the Madeleine Steel Charitable Trust.
