THE PRESIDENT’S RAMBLINGS

Hello Fellow Airstreamers:

Here it is late February and it is snowing nicely in the Comox Valley. Under these

conditions it is hard to get up for Caravanning and Rallies, let alone maintenance

on #5841. It seems though, when breaks in the weather do occur, the days are

wonderful and progress on maintenance and renovations is made. Debra and I

have now completed our Celestial Ceiling.

How is the Spring Action Plan coming that I sent to everyone? In most areas

great; thanks to Ron McQuarrie the inventory check is complete. Thanks again to

Bob Halliwell--he is moving ahead with the nominating committee that is essential

to our Club’s viability. Check your inner Wally and give him a call. Tom Akam is

diligently working on bringing our financial records up to date—a big and impor-

tant job here. The meeting to smooth out procedures to bring new members into

the Club is pending; waiting for all crucial players to be available, sometime in

April. And finally, our spring, summer and fall programme is nearing completion

thanks to Marilyn Van Iderstine and Debra.

Elsewhere in this newsletter you will see coupons addressing some of these

events. I know it is early but for reservations in our wonderful province you need

to act early to secure same. Soooo again, check your inner Wally; vision what it is

like to be parked beside a pristine lake, fire burning and enjoying the company of

fellow Airstreamers... irresistible!

To those of you recovering from sickness or an injury

our thoughts are with you and we are wishing you all a

speedy recovery in order to see you rolling down the

road again.

Best Wishes.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

We are always impressed by the number of aluminum pull tabs we receive from our mem-bers, affiliates and friends !!!! Re-member to keep saving those tabs and bring them to the next rally as this is a great way to raise money for charity (in the case of BC Unit, proceeds go to sending children with se-vere or chronic illnesses and disabilities to summer camp at the Zajak Ranch for Children). We coordi-nate our donations with Sharon Pentecost who, for more than 25 years, has been collecting aluminum for charitable organizations. Marilyn & Gene Van Iderstine are pleased to accept old towels and blankets for the SPCA. Community Service Coordinators, Alex and Arlene Matches will also ensure any donation of warm women’s or children’s clothing collected at rallies, luncheons or dinners goes to the Shelter for Abused Women and that donated foodstuffs are given to the Food Bank. Thank you for your generosity…!!!

THE COMMUNITY CORNER

Good news to report this month. Gene Van Iderstine is home and recuperating without chemo and radiation—the cancer was completely removed (although he has been back and forth to hospital to fight an infection)! Marilyn Hook is recovering from her treatments and feeling well. Ron McQuarrie is home after surgery on his ankle and getting lots of TLC from Kay. Larry & Shannon Leslie are grandparents once again (I don’t know whether it is a boy or girl or when it was born…) We learned Wayne & Jeannie Jeffrey purchased a new Airstream trailer at the Traveland Luncheon and now their son, Neil & wife Rita have inherited the old trailer—YAY Jeffreys!

Wearing of the Green

It ought to come in April, or, better yet, in May

when everything is green as green- I mean St. Patrick's Day.

With still a week of winter this wearing of the green

seems rather out of season - it's rushing things, I mean.

But maybe March is better when all is done and said:

St. Patrick brings a promise, a four-leaf-clover promise, a green-all-over promise of springtime just ahead!

REPORT FROM GOLDEN VILLAGE PALMS RV RESORT

IN HEMET, CALIFORNIA We enjoyed visiting with Region 10 President, Carol Ortiz who, with her son Tom, drove in and spent a night at the Resort. Carol gave us a quick overview of the Hobo Rally and the IBT meeting. The Resort always has a huge Canada Day celebration and Alex is shown with his pal and distant cousin, Don Rosie (who is also our travel companion). Note the little Mountie in the front! Both Alex and Don spent time in the RCMP before they joined the Vancou-ver Fire Department. Needless-to-say, they always have something to talk about! Arlene
