Introduction• We are a student-run charity• Our ‘vision’ is to encourage students to make a
difference in developing countries through overseas volunteering

• 6- 7 week placement
Kirana TrustThe Trust’s aims;• Lift the neediest children from the urban slums•Give food, shelter ( Brinn’s Nest) and an education to these children.
• Empower local communities by; -non-formal education programmes-women’s savings groups-working with youth groups to break down caste prejudices, fight discrimination and improve health and welfare.

men’s and youth groups in and around Chikkaballapura.

Finance • Cheapest way to volunteer abroad!• Each volunteer fundraises: £700
•Global Vision International – 8 weeks, Kenya - £1300•Real Gap Experience – 8 weeks, Uganda - £1300•Last year over half of volunteers over fundraised.

Fundraising• Fundraising is fun and a great way to get
to know the people you will be going away with.
• All the money fundraised in the name of BVDA must go towards the project
• The running of BVDA is carried out voluntarily, thus ALL of the fundraising goes directly to funding the projects

Commitment and Training
To help you prepare for your project, we will provide the following:
• a twelve week training program (every Thursday)• Teambuilding day in
Ashton Court• Group fundraising activities
• Meeting the other volunteers• First Aid training (compulsory)• Learning about the country you will be visiting• Support from your own project parent• Experienced speakers/ former volunteers • Workshops on development issues such as:
o Ethicso Povertyo Cultural sensitivity
• Teaching abroad• Pre-departure guidance (inc. manual)

There are three stages to the application process:• Application forms: By the end of this term!• Selection Days:
Saturday 9th January Sunday 10th January • Interviews: The first week back next term
