Learning Through Play“Having fun and learning too!”

Our aim at Bright Stars Nursery is to ensure that children enjoy every day with us having fun in a caring and nurturing environment while they grow and develop into bright stars of the future; achieving the very best that they can be. We encourage children’s learning and development through providing a stimulating environment with activities and opportunities for them to explore, seek challenges and solve problems while they enjoy their day. Our qualified staff plan for children to extend their learning at appropriate times as they play ensuring that they have fun and find their experiences both rewarding and positive. Through the learning opportunities that we provide, children from Bright Stars Nursery are prepared for school and their next educational experience as they progress along their individual developmental pathway.

Bright Stars Nursery allocates a specific Key Person to each child to monitor their progress and liaise with parents on a daily basis. This ensures that children form a bond with someone they know and trust which enables them to feel secure in their nursery environment. We value our partnership with parents and carers promoted by regular detailed exchanges through daily verbal communication, newsletters, written progress reports and parent evenings. This helps parents and carers to further support their child’s learning experience and development at home and provides consistency of care for children.

At Bright Stars Nursery we utilise a variety of pedagogical theories in the teaching and learning methods we use with our nursery children and these include ideas from Piaget, Montessori, Froebel, Steiner and Vygotsky among others as well as Reggio Emilia and Forest Schools philosophies. This ensures that we provide rich learning experiences for our nursery children through a deep understanding of child development. From this understanding we particularly value ‘learning through play’ which underpins our whole approach to the activities and experiences we offer our Nursery children. Play encourages creativity and imagination in children as well as being intellectually challenging, allowing them to work at something in great depth and consolidate their learning according to their own individual needs.

We look forward to giving a warm welcome to your child at one of our Nurseries and working together with you to ensure that their early years are a memorable and enjoyable experience that builds firm foundations for their future educational journey.

discovered himself, that child is kept from inventing it and

consequently from understanding it completely”

At Bright Stars Nursery we compliment our curriculum by offering a wide range of extra-curricular activities which vary depending upon the nursery your child attends. We believe that this enhances children’s experiences and skills and supports them in all areas of their development. Our parents find these sessions very helpful as it saves them having to find suitable activities at weekends and outside of the nursery hours. All our extra-curricular activities are provided by suitably qualified professionals who are fully compliant with our Safeguarding Children Policies. An example of some of our extra-curricular activities include; French, Yoga, Football and Ballet.

In addition to extra-curricular activities delivered by qualified professionals Bright Stars Nursery also provides in-house small group sessions that enhance and develop specific areas of children’s learning and development. These sessions vary depending upon which nursery your child attends and may be offered to children in specific age groups. An example of these sessions are; Jolly Phonics, Time to talk, Maths Fit and Explorers Group. We believe that offering children the ability to participate in stimulating activities as part of a small group helps them to develop self-confidence alongside social skills.

Bright Stars Nursery usually undertakes a whole nursery outing once a year to a place of interest such as a farm, zoo or adventure playground. This is always a fun and enjoyable experience for our nursery children, staff and parents. In addition we undertake regular local visits and outings with our nursery children to libraries, parks, local shops and amenities which offers them interesting learning experiences and enhances their knowledge and understanding of the world and communities around them.

NB: Additional charges apply for some extra-curricular activities and outings depending upon the nursery your child attends

Bright Stars Nursery provide a selection of healthy menus prepared daily on our premises. We have experienced Nursery

Chefs who ensure that children are provided with healthy balanced meals prepared with good quality ingredients and

plenty of fresh fruit & vegetables. Our Menus reflect the cultures of children at our settings and include many dishes from all over the world, including recipes from families at

our nurseries. The nurseries cater for a variety of dietary requirements and our chefs can prepare alternative dishes when required. Please refer to menu guides at individual

nurseries for more information.

At Bright Stars Nursery meal times are a social occasion with children sitting in small groups supported by a member of our

staff. Children aged 2 and above are encouraged to serve themselves and pour their own drinks.

We often encourage children to participate in making their

own tea of sandwiches or healthy vegetable pizzas and involve them in healthy cooking activities and discussions around

healthy eating. Our nursery babies are provided with pureed, semi-pureed or chopped food prepared to suit their

developmental stage.

The safety of our nursery children is our highest priority and we comply with all relevant legislation to ensure that all staff have the appropriate clearance to work with children. In addition all our staff are required to attend training in Child Protection, Paediatric First Aid and Food Hygiene which we believe contributes to our high standard of care. In addition we strive to ensure that all our staff are NVQ Level 3 qualified or working towards this level qualification. Regular training is available to all staff through a variety of providers and this is complemented by in-house training and staff supervision and appraisals on a regular basis.

We are an equal opportunities employer and are committed to supporting our local communities by working with local schools and colleges to provide work experience placements and apprenticeships for young people within our communities. We are keen to promote the value of working with children as a rewarding career choice and are happy to contribute in this way.

“The environment must be rich in motives which

lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct

his own experiences”

Maria Montessori

Staff at Bright Stars Nursery plan for each child’s individual needs as they progress through the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) enabling them to achieve their full potential in their time with us. The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (2012) is a legal framework set out by the Government which describes children’s development from birth to the age of 5 years.

This operates up to the end of the Reception Year at school and outlines that children will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through seven areas of learning and development. In the early years children develop in the three prime areas:

•Communication and Language•Physical development•Personal, social and emotional development

These prime areas are essential for children’s healthy development and future learning. As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in an additional four specific areas:

•Literacy•Mathematics•Understanding the world•Expressive arts and design

Bright Stars Nursery observes the ways in which children engage with other people and their environment – playing and exploring, active learning, and creating and thinking critically - these characteristics of learning underpin learning and development across all areas and support children to remain effective and motivated learners in preparation for their next educational experience and lifelong educational journey.
