Foreword
In response to Letter no. 1/7/DIP/2015/MSME-DI dated 20/05/2016 of O/o DC
(MSME), M/o MSME, Govt. of India, the District Industrial Profiles of all 21 districts of
North Bihar under the jurisdiction of the MSME- Development Institute, Muzaffarpur
have been updated as per data available for latest years.
This report contains details of geographical information, topography, mineral and
forest resources, industrial scenario, social infrastructure, supporting institutions,
related statistical data and other information relating to MSME sector in the
Madhubani district. The relevant data have been collected from various government
agencies and other institutional sources.
I take this opportunity to appreciate the efforts put in by our officer, Shri Avishek
Chanda, Assistant Director (E.I.) for updating the report.
I sincerely hope that this report will serve as a valuable guide to the entrepreneurs
and will also be useful to other stakeholders.

Brief Industrial Profile of Madhubani District
1. General Characteristics of the District
Madhubani district is part of Mithalanchal region of North Bihar. The district was carved
out from Darbhanga District. The district is backward, however it is famous for its
ancient Madhubani painting. The basic infrastructure in the district in terms of transport,
communication, power supply, Market system is not so developed. However, the above
infrastructure is in progress now a day. The road condition of the district produces a
gloomy look as a result of which industrial activities, trade and business etc are in mesh.
Storage facilities in form of Cold storage, Warehouses are negligible. Other basic
infrastructure like education, health, sanitation and safe drinking water are also
insufficient in the district which affects sum total development of the district of
Madhuani.
1.1 Location & Geographical Area
The Madhubani district in the geographical arena situated at 85°43‟ to 86°42‟ East and
25°59‟ to 26°39‟ North and its measures by area is 3501 sq K.M. with average rain fall
of 1273.2 mm.
1.2 Topography
The district has very rich & fertile land and is surrounded by three rivers i.e. Koshi,
Kamla & Bagmati. All the three rivers originate from Nepal and causes severe damages
of Human lives, wealth and live stock during the flood in rainy season. They have been
boon for the farmers also they made land very fertile. The climate is cooler and damper
than the adjoining districts.
The cold weather starts early generally from the second week of November and the hot
weather begins towards the end of March and the rain fall from the later part of June.
The district also experiences some winter range.

1.3 Climatic Conditions
The climate of this district is generally healthy. There are three well marked seasons,
viz, a pleasant cold season, a hot, dry summer and the rainy season. The cold weather
begins in November and continues up to February, though March is also somewhat
cool. The lowest temperature touches sometime 5oC mark. Westerly winds and dust
storm beings to blow in the second half of March and the temperature rise considerably.
May is the hottest month when the temperature goes up to about 42OC. Rains set in
towards the middle of June when the temperature begins to fall and humidity rises.
Though the rains continue till the end of September or the middle of October, these
months are not so hot.
1.4 Availability of Minerals
As such there is no mineral availability is there in the district under report. The district is
formed of thick alluvial soil. Beds of Kankar or nodular lime stone of interior quality are
occasionally met with. The river banks are generally made up of new alluvium formed
by continuous deposit of soil by the rivers. Sulphur is the only mineral found in the
district.
1.5 Forest
The district has no forest area.
1.6 Electricity and Power
The district receives its entire power supply from the Bihar State Electricity Board. In
rural areas, however, the pace of electrification is comparatively slow. However, the
Government is trying to extended electric line to the maximum number of villages by
implementing various schemes for rural electrification. Total numbers of villages
electrified in the district are 693.

1.7 Administrative set up
The district is headed by District Magistrate. Under him DDCs then ADMs are posted for
looking after the general administration, development and land reformers. At every
division there is sub divisional officer called SDO and in every Block Development
Officer called BDOs/COs and in every Panchyat Sevek is there.

Flow of Capital for the MSME sector should be made easy through bank. Marketing Hub
should be formed for the MSME sector.
