The turtles annually come to the beaches to breed and their nests are extremely vulnerable to predators. Other threats include fishing nets, trawlers and hunting Birds: There are more than 180 species of birds, including Palaearctic migrants, vast flocks of pelicans and flamingo's. Why Namibia is one of the most romantic settings for your Honeymoon!
NAMIBIA
With your much anticipated wedding day around
the corner, it's time to find the perfect setting
for that once in a lifetime honeymoon
celebration. For an unforgettable romantic
getaway, look no further than the land where
sparkling diamonds blend with warm orange
sand dunes, lush green nature reserves, and
miles of wide open blue skies - Namibia!
Only a short flight away from South Africa on the
prestigious Air Namibia, with various departure
and arrival cities, Namibia provides the perfect
break from the stress and strain of everyday
living and allows one to step back and evaluate
who and what is really important in your life as
you slowly unwind and slow down, under the hot
African sun of this multifaceted destination. With
no visas required for South African passport
holders, a trip up north can be arranged as easily
as one, two, three – just don’t forget to pack the
sun block!
In this land of contrasts, opportunities for
romance abound. Romance and Spa products
have blossomed, giving visitors to Namibia an
opportunity to experience a soulful element to
their holiday, with packages and products
available to rival the best spas from around the
world.
With an abundance of spas, some just 30
minutes from Namibia’s capital Windhoek, you
can expect the ultimate in short break
pampering experiences. Outdoor massages and
a full range of world class treatments prepare
you for romantic dinners overlooking the vast
expanse of the lunar like surrounds
Historical castles beckon romantics with
promises of four poster beds, deep wine cellars
and enchanted gardens. Tented bush lodges
send out intimate whispers of plunge pools,
outdoor showers, and soft beds under the stars,
while a blend of German and Namibian warmth
and hospitality spills from the open doors of
charming guest houses and cosy cottages. If
your heart is in the right place, ensure you are
too.
Idyllic settings are perfect for those romantic
experiences. Walvis Bay offers Oysters galore
to set you in the mood, or captivate your lover’s
heart with a crayfish braai on the beach as the
sun sets to the west beyond the Atlantic Ocean.
Having swept your loved one off her feet, keep
her airborne! Floating slowly upwards and
drifting above the undulating carpet of dunes,
in a basket suspended from a hot-air balloon, is
perhaps the most graceful and romantic way of
experiencing Namibia. Except for the
occasional roar of the burner and the soft clink
of champagne flutes, the balloon is enveloped
in total silence and the beauty of the landscape
from this bird’s eye view will leave you
breathless.

Idube Safari Lodge celebrated the new-year with the
opening of two new luxury chalets, the Makubela Suites.
These two elegant and spacious suites are named after one
of Idube’s much loved female leopards, Makubela, who after
being fatally injured by a male, returned to Idube’s gardens
to die.
Complimenting their existing ten chalets which were
extensively refurbished late last year, the two new secluded
suites are perfect for honeymooners and those seeking a
romantic getaway. Reached by meandering private
walkways, each has its own private splash pool, an indoor
and outdoor shower, as well as a game viewing deck
overlooking the dramatic bushveld. Room service and mini
bars are available in each of the air-conditioned suites,
which also boast rain water tanks as part of Idube’s eco-
friendly drive.
Situated within the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, the lodge
boasts spectacular views of the riverbed and Shadulu Dam,
a favourite watering hole for elephants and other game.
Every effort has been made to conserve the environment
and reduce the carbon footprint - rain water is directed off
the roofs to a holding tank and is used to water the bush,
gas geysers have been installed in order to save electricity
and the bushveld surrounding the suites is completely
natural.
Makubela the leopard will always be remembered and Idube welcomes you to create your very own unforgettable memories...those that will last a lifetime. Tel: +27 11 431 1120 Fax: +27 11 431 3597 Email: [email protected] Photographs supplied by Idube Game Lodge.
