At that time, the work Tor the week was exhibited and the fall to Worship, learned |(y the Juniors and Primary Departments said, and the special songs SUIIK The overall theme of "Living for Jesus in the Spuce Age," with special themes for the individual departments was carried out, and proved exciting in many ways. Each child was an active partici- pant, not only in listening, but in doing. Brightly colored book and take-home projects, with scrip- ture verses helping to make the lessons more meaningful, were taken home each day. Special handcrafts, projects and other di- rected activities correlated to the department themes were deeply en- joyed by pupils and teachers. The beginners department, headed by Mrs. Carl McCracken, met in the Spring Valley Hook and Lad- der building, which is across the street from the church. The spa- cious ground of the fire company was also used for several of the recreation periods. Attendance reached its peak on Wednesday with eighty-six per cent. Elsa Nelson and Janet Lee Pitt had charge of the nursery; Mrs. Carl McCracken, superintendent of the beginners, was assisted by Mrs. Dohen Nelson, Janet Murdock and Dian Pruyne. Mrs. John Kurutz, superintendent of the kindergar- ten, was assisted by Mrs. Clerisse McCormick and Mrs. Robert Ast- rab. Mrs. Robert Pitt, primary su- perintendent, was helped by Mrs. Roger Bates, Mrs. William Glover and Mrs. Earlo Hebberd. Mrs. Da- vid Carey and Mrs. Edward Shep- ard, assisted Mrs. Merton Reyn- olds in the junior department. Mrs. H. Vernon Rustin served as recretary, assisted by Miss Mary Ann Rustin. The pastor of the church. Rev. R. M. Rousset, led the worship program, assisted with the recrea- tional activities and song fests. Certificates were issued. The rubbi pointed proudly to the marks attained by the graduates in the recent Re- gents examination with an aver- age for the entire class of over W per cent and about half the class averaging over 95 per cent. The students of the Yeshlva of Spring Valley were also singled out for honor by the National As sociation of Yeshivos of America "Torah Uniesorah", by winning 4(1 per cent of the National hon- ors in a recent contest. The valedictorian in the English Department, Allen Gribetz, son oi Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Gribetz of Mousey, attained an average of MJ in the Regents examination. David Schustal and Yerachmic 1 Unganscher, sons of Rabbi and Mrs. Simeha Schustal ami Rabbi and Mrs. Don Ungarischer, re- spectively, of Mousey, delivered a casuistric dissertation on the Tal- mud. They both tied with the Na- tional Honors and were therefore (-liosen to be the valedictorian for the Hebrew Department. Yehudis Greenbaum, daughter of Rabbi and Mrs, Bernard Green- baum, topped her group in the Bais Yaakov Department and de- livered an oration in the Hebrew language. Ziporah Dinkels received the gold medal for school service. Janie Greenberg received a medal of honor for the second highest average in the English Depart- ment.
